Due to left ankle ligament injuries, England seamer Reece Topley will not play in the T20 World Cup in Australia, the country’s cricket board (ECB) announced on Wednesday.Tymal Mills, a fellow left-arm fast bowler who was travelling with the team as a backup, will take over for the 28-year-old.
The injury was suffered by Topley, who has taken 22 wickets in as many T20 games, during a fielding practise prior to England’s warm-up match against Pakistan in Brisbane on Monday.Lancashire’s Luke Wood has been listed as a travelling reserve, the ECB said in a statement, adding that the results of the scan on Tuesday in Perth “confirmed the injury.”
The 2010 T20 World Cup champions, England, begin their season on Saturday in Perth against Afghanistan.Additionally, due to injuries, Sri Lanka has been forced to make two roster changes. Kasun Rajitha replaces Dushmantha Chameera, who is out with a ruptured calf muscle, and Ashen Bandara takes the place of Danushka Gunathilaka.
