With the Queen’s official mourning period over, the royal family is back at work – and putting on a united front. Buckingham Palace released an image of the King, Queen Consort, and Prince and Princess of Wales taken together in London on the eve of the Queen’s funeral on 18 September, just before the family’s reception for heads of state at Buckingham Palace.
The Waleses’ personal and professional lives have changed dramatically in the last few weeks, beginning with their relocation from Kensington Palace’s Apartment 1A to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. The Queen’s death was announced the same week that Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis began school at Lambrook School in Berkshire, with William issuing a statement paying tribute to the late monarch. In a widely shared message, he wrote, “My grandmother famously said that grief is the price we pay for love.” “Every tear we shed in the coming weeks will be a testament to how much we loved our extraordinary Queen.” I will honour her memory by assisting my father, King, in all of his endeavours.
Meanwhile, Charles used his first speech as King to announce that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would be known as the Prince and Princess of Wales from now on, with William inheriting both his Scottish titles and the Duchy of Cornwall. “I know that with Catherine by his side, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the centre ground where vital help can be given,” he told the British people. The Waleses, for their part, have already made their first visit to Anglesey since receiving their titles, greeting the public on September 27.
