On Thursday, October 20, 2022, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg received Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to NATO Headquarters to discuss Sweden’s and Finland’s membership applications.
The Secretary General declared that joining the Alliance would increase your safety, NATO’s power, and the security of the Euro-Atlantic region. He pointed out that the procedures for Sweden and Finland’s entrance to NATO were concluded more quickly than any other Allies in recent memory. He emphasised that numerous Allies had provided both nations with security guarantees and that NATO had boosted its presence in the Baltic Sea. If Sweden and Finland are put under any kind of pressure, it is unthinkable that the Allies will do nothing, he added.
