Putin declares martial law
The order was issued by Russia’s president for Donetsk, Lugansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhia.
On Wednesday, the Russian Security Council held a meeting. In a series of televised remarks, Putin directed the establishment of a special coordinating council led by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin to collaborate with Russia’s regions in order to boost Moscow’s war effort in Ukraine.
It came on the same day that Russian-installed officials in Kherson, one of the four occupied regions, announced that tens of thousands of civilians were being “evacuated” as Ukraine advances nearby.
Putin stated that the measures he was ordering would improve economic, industrial, and production stability in support of Russia’s “special military operation.”
“We are working on very complex, large-scale tasks to ensure a reliable future for Russia and our people,” he said.
