JOYLAND BANNED BY THE PUNJAB GOVT
The Punjab government has prohibited the exhibition of Saim Siddiq’s Joyland film, less than 24 hours after the federal government lifted the restriction, according to ARY News.
The Punjab Information and Culture Department informed Sarmad Sultan Khoosat on November 17 that the Joyland crew could not screen their film in the jurisdiction of the Punjab province until further notice from the Punjab Government.
According to the notification, the legislation specifies that the government may at any time request a record of any proceedings concerning any film that is pending before or has been decided by the board. After conducting such an investigation as it deems necessary and without giving notice to the person who applied for certification of the film or to whom a certificate in respect of the film has been granted to the distributor or exhibitor of such picture, make such order as it deems appropriate.
The second section states that the government may order that a picture or class of films for which a certificate has been issued under the Motion Pictures Ordinance or the Censorship of Films Act, 1963 (XVIII of 1963) be considered uncertified.
The clause further stipulates that the government may not issue such an order unless it is satisfied that it is necessary “in the interest of the glory of Islam or the integrity, security, or defense of Pakistan.”
