LAHORE: Sibtain Khan, an MPA and the opposition leader in the Punjab Legislature, has been chosen by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) to succeed Parvez Elahi as speaker of the assembly. The decision was made, according Pakistani sources, by PTI Chairman Imran Khan and was also communicated to freshly elected CM of Punjab Parvez Elahi, who remained the assembly’s final speaker. They claimed that during their meeting at Bani Gala today, the two discussed several names and settled on Sibtain Khan.
Additionally, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has decided to file a no-trust motion against Dost Muhammad Mazari, the deputy speaker of the Punjab Assembly. According to sources, Wasiq Qayyum and Malik Taimur are candidates for the job of deputy speaker of the PA. It was also claimed that a number of candidates, including Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed, Aslam Iqbal, Zain Qureshi, and Usman Buzdar, were being considered for the role of Punjab Assembly speaker.
It should be remembered that a three-member Supreme Court bench today ruled that Pervez Elahi will replace Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari as the new chief minister of the province and deemed Mazari’s decision in the Punjab Chief Minister election to be “illegal.” After the governor of Punjab declined to swear him in, he later accepted the oath of office from President Arif Alvi.
