Ex-prime minister barred from the legislature due to “corrupt practises.”
Pakistan’s Islamabad – Imran Khan was found guilty of “corrupt activities” by Pakistan’s election commission, which unanimously decided to disqualify him from serving in parliament.
The decision from Friday was instantly challenged by Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. It urged supporters march to the streets and announced that it would appeal the decision to the Islamabad High Court.
A Pakistan Muslim League member named Nawaz brought the lawsuit against Khan in August, alleging that the former prime minister had purchased gifts from the official gift repository, popularly known as Toshakhana, but had failed to reveal the assets in the declarations he had provided to the commission.
