It is pertinent to discuss August 14, Pakistan’s independence day. What do we Pakistani’s do? On August 14, we remove silencers from motorbikes and convene on roads with drums and horns. My question is: which part of Pakistan’s independence do people celebrate? Is this the Pakistan that ,our national poet, Allama Iqbal envisioned? In this country, even animals are unsafe- from birds to kittens- all are struggling to survive. To make matters worse, children in Masjids are targeted and made victims to satisfy uncontrollable sexual desires is this the same country whose foundation was laid upon the principles of Islam? The same country for which thousands sacrificed their life. A recent story emerged in the news narrating a story about a man who deliberately assaulted a boy of Hindu religion until he uttered “ALLAH u Akbar” to consolidate his standing as a muslim. What an absolute travesty of the principles of Islam. Islam does not allow forceful conversion of minorities nor does it permit violence. Moreover, in some cases in Pakistan, religious buildings of minorities were attacked. The question arises is Pakistan the same country where intellects were given freedom to reside? Women are being harassed and assaulted. Yes, it is often claimed by the offender that the victim was wearing revealing clothes and he was aroused by the sight. It is a shame that a 7 year or 5 month old female child causes a man to lose control and become aroused. Is this the same ‘ PAK SAR ZAMEEN’ that Hafiz Jalandhar referred to in his national anthem? Even goats have been sexually assaulted by these savages. Were the goats also wearing inappropriate clothes? It was definitely the fault of the goat who was unclothed. Should animals also be clothed? Should they also be prevented from venturing outside? Did Quaid e Azam fight for Pakistan’s independence for such incidents to occur in the country? Blood brothers are murdering each other, sons are killing their fathers, some son has shot his mother for not providing him with money to buy drugs, a sister asked for her inheritance share and was brutally killed. Is this the “SHAHEEN” that Allama Iqbal mentioned in his poetry? If not, then what do you people celebrate August 14 for? By holding a flag, removing silencers from motorbikes and tooting horns, what are you people attempting to prove?
