New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson wins the fitness competition and is selected for the 2023 Cricket World Cup
Since rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in March, the 33-year-old has been unable to play.
Finn Allen has no place now that Williamson has been added.
The fast-bowling attack is led by 34-year-old Trent Boult, who was last year freed from a central contract, although Kyle Jamieson and Adam Milne aren’t included.
Williamson and Test captain Tim Southee, both 34, are scheduled to participate in a fourth 50-over World Cup. They join Boult in the bowling ranks.
When India last hosted the competition in 2011, both were involved.
After finishing in second place in the last two World Cups in 2019 and 2015, New Zealand will begin their campaign against the reigning champions England on October 5 in Ahmedabad.
Williamson, who will lead the team, is expected to be injured, according to New Zealand coach Gary Stead. “We haven’t put a date on whether he will be available for that first game or not,” he added.
He is doing every effort to ensure it happens, but that is still three to four weeks away and time will tell a little bit closer.
In a heartbreaking final defeat to hosts England in 2019, the Kiwis.
In their 50 overs, both sides scored 241, and they were tied at 15 going into the super over.
Jimmy Neesham, an all-rounder, hit 13 runs in the super over, but England was declared the winners due to the number of boundaries they scored when Martin Guptill was run out while attempting the winning run.
Neesham remarked, “I think it’s motivated all of us.
“Trent has discussed it as well, joking with a handful of the men back then about giving it another go in four years.
“We have that 30- to 35-year-old generation. We’ve all played a ton over the past 10 to 12 years, so the players are all quite motivated to give it their best shot one last time.
