CAPE TOWN: Temba Bavuma, the South Africa white-ball skipper, suffered an elbow injury during their away T20Is against India and will not be participating in the next England visit.
The fourth T20I against India saw white-ball skipper Bavuma suffer an elbow injury after diving to complete a single and falling suddenly onto his left arm, breaking both his soft tissues and bones.
The 32-year-old, who won’t need surgery but would probably need eight weeks to fully recuperate, has missed his team’s all-format visit to England.
David Miller, a left-handed hitter, and Keshav Maharaj, a spinner, will assume the captaincy duties in T20 Internationals and ODIs, respectively, in place of Bavuma. The Proteas will continue to be led by Dean Elgar in the longest format.
After nearly six years, the powerful left-handed batsman Rilee Rossouw returns to international cricket; Gerald Coetzee gets his first call-up for the T20Is.
