Marriyum Aurangzeb, the minister for information and broadcasting, paid a condolence call to the murdered journalist Arshad Sharif’s mother on Monday.
She felt sorry for Arshad Sharif’s children, widow, and other family members. Speaking at the event, she stated that the government was making every effort to quickly repatriate the slain journalist’s body. The deceased person’s body would be returned as quickly as possible, she said.
Marriyum Aurangzeb encouraged the media to refrain from making assumptions about the terrible death and said detailed information about the incident would be released to the media as soon as it was received from Kenyan authorities.
She stated that the Pakistan High Commissioner in Kenya was in contact with Kenyan authorities and that the envoy had hired a lawyer to assist in meeting legal requirements. She also stated that the Prime Minister was saddened by the premature death and expressed his condolences to Arsahd’s mother over the phone. She continued by saying that Arshad Sharif’s mother had begged the prime minister to ensure the quick return of Arshad Sharif’s body from Kenya.
She claimed that the prime minister promised to carry out the plans in a warlike manner and that the government was in communication with Kenyan authorities in this regard.
The minister stated that Arshad’s mother had informed him that the prime minister had also paid them a visit following the tragic passing of Arshad’s younger brother a number of years prior.
