India defeated England by seven wickets in a lopsided match at the Senwes Cricket Stadium in Potchefstroom, South Africa, to win the Women’s Under-19 World Cup for the first time ever.
India chose to bowl first and dismissed England for just 68 runs before chasing the total down in 14 overs.
India’s Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha each scored 24 runs in response to the modest goal.
Shafali Verma, the team’s captain, and Shweta Sehrawat were sent back to the pavilion by England, but Soumya and Trisha teamed up to pursue the goal.
Hannah Baker, Grace Scrivens, and Alexa Stonehouse each claimed a wicket for England.
Earlier, England had trouble playing on a large platform and was bowled out for just 68 thanks to great bowling and outstanding fielding.
For the English team, Ryana MacDonald-Gay scored the most runs with 19 off 24 balls. Alexa Stonehouse and Sophia Smale each managed to accumulate 11 runs in the meantime.
For India, Mannat Kashyap, Shafali Verma, and Sonam Mukesh Yadav each claimed one wicket, while Titas Sadhu, Archana Devi, and Parvashi Chopra each claimed two.
