Wednesday night, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab elections appeared to be delayed. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial took a suo motu notice of the situation and also convened a larger court to hear the matter.
The change occurs two days after Punjab and KP provincial assembly elections were set for April 9 by President Dr. Arif Alvi, a decision that was denounced by the government as “illegal and unconstitutional.”
The Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) and other legal professionals were consulted by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) amid the crisis, but no official announcement has been issued as of yet.
