ISLAMABAD: According to a statement from the prime minister’s office, the federal cabinet on Friday announced the creation of a committee to look into the diplomatic code that was allegedly “taken” from the Prime Minister’s House documents.The cypher was displayed by former prime minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan on March 27 at a public event before he was ousted, claiming that the US had threatened his government and that the Opposition was complicit in the plot. Imran Khan was removed from office following a vote of no-confidence.
According to the statement from the PM office, which was released following the cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the body received a briefing on the topic of diplomatic cypher during which it was revealed that a copy of the necessary document was missing from the records of the Prime Minister House.The statement read, “The meeting was informed that, despite the Prime Minister’s House having a record of the receipt of the cypher delivered to the previous premier, its copy is not available in the record. The cable is a possession of the Prime Minister’s House, according to the legislation, it was added.
