Federal Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar backed up the assertion, stating that Imran Khan, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and a former prime minister, has been disqualified for five years by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Azam Nazir Tarar attacked the former premier [Imran Khan] during a news conference while being accompanied by SAPM Atta Tarar and MNA Mohsin Nawaz Ranjha. He claimed that Imran lied to the ECP because he accepted gifts from foreign nations and then sold them from the public treasury. The law minister advised Imran to pursue legal action and requested that he [Imran] produce the supporting documentation.
The law minister praised the ECP for having the right attitude in the Toshakhana issue but claimed that after the ECP’s ruling, the PTI leadership began to stir up trouble.
Asserting that Imran had already suffered treatment from the ECP in the foreign funding issue and that this had happened again in the Toshakhana case, Tarar noted that tax returns are private communications between the FBR and the taxpayer.
“It was required that the elected officials file their returns by December 31 each year. Imran Khan did not reveal the gifts he got from abroad in 2019; 2020; or 2021. He was concerned that if he divulged the specifics of the gifts, his dishonesty would be exposed and the public would query him on this fact, the source continued.
