The nomination of the army chief has not yet been subject to consultation: Khawaja Asif.
Khawaja Asif denied rumors that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had consulted with PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif in London on the appointment of the army chief, saying instead that no such consultation had yet taken place.
Reacting to Imran Khan’s speech from the previous day, Khawaja told reporters outside the Lower House that Khan has revised his earlier comments about an American conspiracy, however, he insisted that the event would still be labeled as such. He inquired as to whether this was Khan’s first time denying an accusation.
“His denials are comprehensive. So much of his extensive babbling has occurred over the previous four years. Does he still stand by what he said?” At the PTI leader’s expense, he made a snide remark.
As Khawaja put it, “Since Imran Khan claimed yesterday that an FIR had not been filed for my murder, it is clear that he is either lying or completely naive about the subject. If that’s the case, it’s up to them.”
Khawaja stated when asked if a final decision had been reached on the nomination of the army chief, “The appointment of the army leadership has not yet been discussed in detail. Just some news articles.”
Khawaja Asif indicated that the appointment will be made at the “premier’s discretion” and that Nawaz Sharif would play a role if necessary, in response to another question concerning Sharif’s involvement.
