Angelina Jolie is opening up in a new interview with Vogue, saying in its November 2023 cover story that she didn’t feel like herself and felt depressed “for a decade” after her acrimonious and turbulent split from Brad Pitt in 2016 after 12 years of dating—but that her experience as a mother was a lifeline.
After her breakup with Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie claims she hasn’t felt like herself in “decades.”
According to Jolie, who is a mother of six, “I was 26 when I got pregnant.” “My life as a whole altered. Having kids saved me and showed me a new way to live in this world. Had I not desired to live for them, I believe that I would have lately perished in a far harsher way. They are superior to me because that is what you want for your kids.
Jolie continued, “But I’m also the one that they laugh at—and I see them taking over so many different aspects of our family,” adding that she hopes to be a “safe place” for her kids.
Jolie, who is presently directing a Broadway musical, said she hasn’t felt like herself in ten years and that she feels “a bit down these days,” though she didn’t elaborate on why. We needed to do a lot of healing, she remarked. We are still getting our bearings.
Jolie is seen on the cover of Vogue “in a striking white strapless gown adorned with pink spray paint, using the platform to promote her new fashion venture, Atelier Jolie,” according to Entertainment Tonight. Jolie stated of the company, “I don’t want to be a major fashion designer. I want to construct a home so that others can do that. I want to make numerous changes in my life. And here I am looking forward.
Atelier Jolie is a platform for empowering women to accept their vulnerability as well as a fashion brand. “I want a woman to feel safe enough that she can be soft,” Jolie said. “After experiencing something painful, a therapist asked if I would consider wearing a flowing outfit. It sounds foolish, but I believed that wearing jeans and boots made me appear “tougher” and stronger.I now wonder if…I don’t know what my personal style is since, at 48, I’m still getting to know myself.
Jolie and Pitt became one of Hollywood’s most well-known couples after meeting on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005. They eventually got married in 2014. According to Entertainment Tonight, their marriage disintegrated in 2016 “following an alleged altercation during a private flight with their children.” Although no charges were ever brought, Pitt was accused of “choking and striking” their son Maddox. Pitt refutes the allegations. In May 2021, they were granted joint custody, but the decision was later overturned, leaving the matter unresolved to this day, according to Entertainment Tonight. Since their breakup, the two have been embroiled in a legal battle over custody of their children and ownership of a winery they once co-owned.
