During the brothers’ feud, author Valentine Low claimed in the New York Post that one stressful moment occurred when William and his wife Kate Middleton believed a now-infamous media appearance was a “deliberate attempt to knock the Cambridges out of the headlines.”
When Harry and Meghan Markle gave an interview to ITV during their 2019 tour of South Africa, William became concerned about the Sussexes’ happiness in the royal family, realising the family might be “in crisis.”
The interview with ITV for their documentary “Harry & Meghan: An African Journey” was one of the first public examples of Harry and Meghan’s challenges as royals. Meghan opened up about her struggles as a mother and newlywed in the royal spotlight. Harry was confronted by ITV’s Tom Bradby about his feud with his brother, which he did not deny.
“We are certainly on different paths at the moment,” Prince Harry said in the documentary. “But I will always be there for him, as I know he will always be there for me.”
The interview dominated press coverage during Prince William and Kate’s tour of Pakistan, and it unavoidably overshadowed their visit.
According to The Post, William arranged a meeting with Harry in the book, and Harry initially agreed in the hopes of making amends after he and Markle levelled multiple allegations against the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex, according to the book, changed his mind shortly after agreeing and declined the offer. When Harry asked who he would notify about the meeting, William replied that the Prince’s private secretary would need to be notified in order for it to be added to his calendar.
