Donald Trump Warns That His Supporters’ “Breaking Point” May Be Prison Time

Washington: In remarks that will heighten fears of political violence surrounding the US presidential election on November 5, Donald Trump warned that sending him to prison could prove to be a “breaking point” for his supporters.

Following his historic criminal conviction in a hush money trial, the former president and current Republican presidential candidate acknowledged the possibility of jail time or house arrest in an interview that aired on Fox News on Sunday.

While acknowledging that he was “not sure the public would stand for it,” Trump stated, “I’m ok with it.”

“I believe the public would find it difficult to accept. You

understand there’s a breaking point,” he continued.

The country, which is already worried about the possibility of political harassment and civil unrest in the lead-up to the November election, will take note of the warning.

Now that he is a convicted felon, Trump is running for office, and he has made it clear time and time again that if he loses to President Joe Biden, he will not accept the outcome.

In order to conceal a sex scandal involving porn star Stormy Daniels, a New York jury on Thursday found Trump guilty of all 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the closing weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign.

Only a few days from now, on July 11, is when the former president will be sentenced for the first criminal conviction in US history.

Experts state that it is highly unlikely that the judge will impose a custodial sentence, even though each charge carries a potential four-year jail sentence.

Three additional criminal trials are pending for Trump, one of which is connected to his attempts to have the 2020 presidential election results, which he lost to Biden, overturned.

On January 6, 2021, Trump’s followers stormed the US Capitol after he gave a fiery speech exhorting the audience to “fight like hell.”

In an interview with Fox, Trump restated his claims that the hush money trial was a “scam” and that the legal system had been “weaponized” by his opponents to prevent him from winning the presidency again.

Biden has referred to Trump’s assaults on the legal system and his trial judge as “dangerous,” careless, and reckless.

Stormy Daniels broke her silence after Trump was found guilty and declared that the former president ought to go to jail.

Daniels stated, “I think he should be sentenced to jail and some community service working for the less fortunate, or being the volunteer punching bag at a women’s shelter,” in an interview that was published late Saturday by the British tabloid The Mirror.

Now that she and Trump have been trading barbs on social media for years, Daniels claims she has finally been “vindicated,” though she acknowledged that she was “shocked” by the jury’s prompt verdict.

At one point during the interview, Daniels also called the presidential candidate “completely and utterly out of touch with reality” and likened him to a child.

The former adult film director and actor’s compelling testimony—which included graphic details of what she claims was a light-hearted sexual encounter in 2006—helped bring Trump down in court.

In the interview, she said, “Being in court was so intimidating with the jurors looking at you,” but she was also relieved that it had been established that she had been “telling the truth the entire time.”

“For me, it’s not over yet. For me, it will always be here. Even though Trump is guilty, I still have to deal with his legacy.”

Prosecutors at Trump’s trial claimed the sexual encounter happened soon after his wife Melania gave birth, but Trump has persisted in denying it.

During the criminal trial, Trump claimed in an interview with Fox News that his wife was suffering. She was conspicuously absent from the court proceedings, although other close relatives were present to offer support.

“She’s fine, but I think it’s very hard for her,” Trump stated. “She has to read all this crap.”

China has shown remarkable contribution to development of different regions of Pak, including Gwadar, under the CPEC: Ahsan Iqbal

Says Gwadar will become an internationally acclaimed world-class port city with tremendous opportunities for its people

BEIJING, June 02 (SABAH): Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhry says China has shown a remarkable contribution in development of different regions of Pakistan, including Gwadar under the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Talking to Chinese news agency “Xinhua”, Ahsan Iqabl said Gwadar will become an internationally acclaimed world-class port city with tremendous opportunities for its people.

“We hope that Gwadar will become an internationally acclaimed world-class port city, which will have tremendous opportunities for its people,” the minister said. Describing Gwadar as a highly significant and strategic port in the region, Ahsan Iqbal said that China had shown remarkable contribution to the development of different regions of Pakistan, including Gwadar, under the CPEC.

“In Gwadar, we have seen that China not only developed the port facility but also contributed towards socioeconomic development of its people.”

The minister noted that China had established a state-of-the-art modern hospital in Gwadar, providing facilities comparable to those in major cities like Karachi or Lahore.

“Similarly, China has helped set up a technical training institution. It has also assisted poor people with solar panels to provide them electricity and has undertaken other initiatives to improve the lives of local people,” Ahsan Iqbal said.

“So, we really appreciate that China has contributed immensely to the uplift of Gwadar, but it is just the first steps to go; other ports have a long way to go,” he added.

The minister pointed out that China had also provided scholarships for the youth of Gwadar who were studying in Chinese universities. “So, I think China’s contribution to Gwadar has been very valuable in uplifting the lives of people and the region, and we appreciate it very much.”

The minister also appreciated China for sharing its success, not just with Pakistan, but with other countries as well, to help them improve their infrastructure for socioeconomic development.

Launched in 2013, the CPEC is a flagship project of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative. It serves as a corridor linking Gwadar Port in southwest Pakistan’s Balochistan province with Kashgar in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The project highlights energy, transport, and industrial cooperation in the first phase, while the new phase expands to include fields such as agriculture and livelihood, among others.

David Beckham bonds with King Charles over beekeeping as he is named charity ambassador

David Beckham is now officially an ambassador for The King’s Foundation, a move announced by the charity on June 1.

The former Manchester United icon has joined the King’s Foundation to support youth and environmental programmes.

The organisation, founded by King Charles in 1990 while he was Prince of Wales, aspires to foster communities that prioritise harmony between people, places, and the environment.
Beckham recently visited King Charles’ Highgrove Gardens in Gloucestershire, where he examined the charity’s educational activities and took part in seminars.

Every year, The King’s Foundation educates around 15,000 pupils and provides health and wellness programmes to an additional 2,000 people. The nonprofit also works on regeneration projects that revitalise communities and preserve historic buildings in the United Kingdom and around the world.

Beckham acknowledged his excitement for his new job, saying, “I am thrilled to be working with The King’s Foundation and to have the opportunity to help increase awareness of the charity’s work. I have always wanted to assist young people in broadening their perspectives, and I am particularly excited to support the Foundation’s education programmes and efforts to give young people more access to nature.”

He added, “Having developed a love for the countryside, I’m also on a personal mission to learn more about rural skills, which are so central to the Foundation’s work.”

The retired football star, who has a passion for beekeeping with royals such as Kate Middleton and Queen Camilla, wrote, “It was encouraging to hear from the King about the work of His Majesty’s Foundation during my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens—and trade beekeeping ideas!” Beckham spoke with students at the Snowdon School of Furniture and those taking part in the Métiers d’art Embroidery Fellowship, which is a cooperation between Chanel and Le19M.

Beckham has long been affiliated with the royal family, attending key events such as Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton and Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle. In 2003, Queen Elizabeth awarded him an OBE for his contributions to football. Following the Queen’s death in September 2022, Beckham joined hundreds of mourners in London, standing in line for 12 hours.

Malala’s first look in the British comedy ‘We Are Lady Parts’

The first glimpse at Malala Yousafzai’s character in the British comedy ‘We Are Lady Parts’ is circulating on social media.

Clad in a cowboy avatar, complete with hat and [fake] horse. Malala appeared in Season 2 of the acclaimed show, with the first episode airing yesterday (May 30). Nida Manzoor wrote and directed the British sitcom ‘We Are Lady Parts’. The show is about a British punk rock band called Lady Parts, which was created entirely by Muslim women.

Malala’s Season 2 appearance also featured a song called ‘Malala Made Me Do It’.

In an interview with British Vogue, the Nobel Prize winner explained why she agreed to the cameo: “This was perhaps the first drama I watched where you had Muslim characters who were not side characters – you had five of them as leads.” “That stood out.” She also told Vogue that she was concerned about her appearance, particularly her head covering: “I want to look attractive. I would like someone to put as much work into the dupatta and how I want to cover my head as anything else. When I saw their expression and the hat, I knew they had given it some attention. “I was quite happy.”

Meanwhile, the show’s director, Nida Manzoor, told the Los Angeles Times that she decided to ask Malala for a cameo because she had heard Malala talk about her love of comedy and “she had such a dark sense of humour.” She is quite witty. I thought, ‘This woman likes humour, so I might have a shot.'”

feroze khan and alizey sultan khan

Many congratulations! Pakistani stars celebrate as Feroze Khan marries again.

Actor was formerly married to Alizay Sultan until 2022

Feroze Khan, a Pakistani actor, has made news yet again, this time for his recent wedding. The prominent actor, known for his roles in television series like Khaani and Ishqiya, announced his marriage on social media with an emotional statement. Khan posted a photo with his new bride, Dua, “Welcome to my life, gorgeous.”

The announcement rapidly drew attention, not only from fans, but also from other celebrities, who turned to social media to express their happiness and best wishes for the marriage. Imran Ashraf, an actor, commented, “Many congratulations, brother,” with a heart emoji.

In the replies section, Azfar Rehman remarked, “Mashallah,” in addition to Khan’s sister actor Humaima Malick who left heartfelt comments on her brother’s post. “May God save you from evil eye,” the Arth actor wrote. Turkish star Celel Al also wished the Pakistani star the best of wishes.

Rumours of Khan’s marriage began to circulate when photos of what appeared to be the couple’s mayoun ceremony went popular on social media late Friday night. The photos depicted a classic setting with friends and family gathering to enjoy the pre-wedding festivities. Despite the rumours, Khan kept silent till his last post confirmed the news.

The Khumar actor’s marriage comes after his previous highly-publicised marriage with Alizay Sultan, which ended in divorce. The former couple shared a turbulent history, with domestic violence allegations levelled by the Sultan towards Khan.

Sultan filed evidence to the District and Sessions Courts in Karachi East to back up her claims, including photos of injuries allegedly caused by Feroze on July 7, 2020 and May 10, 2021. Sultan’s family had her undergo a medico-legal examination at the Postgraduate Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), and the medical results were submitted to the court. The findings confirmed injuries on her arms and waist, which supported her claims of physical assault.

On September 1, 2022, Sultan made a public announcement on her Instagram account that she was separating from her ex-husband. In her declaration, she described their four-year marriage as chaotic, revealing that they experienced “constant physical and psychological aggression, infidelity, blackmail, and degradation.” Sultan stated a desire to prevent her children from growing up in a “toxic family.” The former couple married in March 2018 and have two children, a boy and a girl.

Press freedom in Kashmir is under tremendous assault.

Journalists risk harassment, intimidation, and digital repression during internet shutdowns.

Kashmir has emerged as one of the most dangerous places for journalists. The media in this conflict-ridden region suffers serious risks, including harassment, intimidation, and physical violence, forcing many journalists to rely on self-censorship for survival.

In recent years, the Modi government’s use of digital repression in Kashmir has been increasingly effective. Frequent internet outages have hampered communication and information flow.

Notably, following the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, the region experienced its longest internet blackout, lasting seven consecutive months. These shutdowns, coupled with curfews and roadblocks, have created formidable barriers for journalists trying to report on the ground.

The elimination of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and autonomy has resulted in heightened limitations on press freedom. The Indian government’s anti-riot policies have hampered media’ ability to report correctly and quickly. While some internet services have been partially restored, access is still limited and closely watched.

In this climate of fear, the Indian government has been chastised for restricting critical news. Since August 5, 2019, journalists in Kashmir have faced stringent restrictions and regular threats. Last year, Amnesty International and other human rights organisations criticised the detention of freelance journalist Irfan Meraj in Indian-administered Kashmir, appealing for his immediate and unconditional release.

Local media say that covering the situation in Kashmir has grown increasingly difficult. International journalists also find it difficult to report freely owing to frequent internet disruptions and other barriers. Despite these significant limits, the Modi government asserts that the media in Jammu & Kashmir is free to operate without fear of intimidation or harassment.

11 new WhatsApp features added in May 2024

Features distinguish instant messaging apps, and WhatsApp understands this all too well because we continuously report on the testing and development of new features that will benefit users. Every month, Meta’s developers give us beta testers a few features to play with, even if some of them may never be released. The month of May was no exception, with a few stable channel upgrades and an abundance of beta feature sightings and tests to keep us interested.

While the great majority of the features we see are in various phases of development or beta testing, those using the consumer-facing version from the Play Store can look forward to a few new features this month. First and foremost, WhatsApp’s user interface is changing from dark green to a lighter colour palette. We first saw this testing last month, but the new UI design, which includes a prominent search bar, squarish floating action button, and bottom nav bar with four equal-width tabs, is now live.

This design includes a lighter color scheme paired with new shapes in the default chat background called doodle. While there are smaller changes too, they all share a common theme — modernizing the app interface without compromising its simplicity.

In addition, the Play Store upgrades quadrupled the duration limit for voice notes and voice messages transmitted as status updates. As a result, users can now reach a larger audience with fewer consecutive messages. Speaking of restrictions, users of the Play Store-delivered stable version will notice that they can now pin up to three messages per chat, up from the previous maximum of one message per chat.

However, it’s worth noting that messages can only be pinned temporarily, and you should star-mark messages if you plan to revisit them after a long time, or after you clear the chat. WhatsApp doesn’t even limit the number of starred messages per chat.

While pinned texts show up at the top of the conversation window with an excerpt from the beginning of the message visible, pinned media in the chat simply said “Image” or “Video.” If you often deal with images and videos, it’s immediately apparent why and how this can be infuriating. A beta this month fixed this behavior with the addition of a thumbnail preview for the media to show up beside the Image or Video label.

Under new captain Aqib Ilyas, Oman faces Namibia in a fight of equals.

In a recent five-match T20I series, Namibia had beaten Oman but only just, winning 3-2

Namibia, competing in their third consecutive T20 World Cup, will be seeking to improve on their prior success. They surprised many by qualifying for the Super 12s in 2021, at the cost of Ireland and the Netherlands, and overcame Sri Lanka in the first round in 2022, but did not advance. They advanced to the T20 World Cup 2024 by sweeping the African qualifier, winning all six games. With England and Australia in their group, they will realise that their best opportunity at the Super 8s is to beat Oman and Scotland and then pull off an upset.

However, Oman, their first opponent, could provide stiff competition. When the two teams met in a five-match T20I series in April, Oman came close, but Namibia eventually won 3-2. Oman, making their third appearance in the T20 World Cup, enters the tournament with momentum. They advanced to the ACC Premier Cup final, winning five consecutive games before losing to UAE in the final. Aqib Ilyas has taken over as captain for the World Cup, succeeding the seasoned Zeeshan Maqsood.

David Wiese, one of the main reasons for Namibia’s successful 2021 campaign, has since become a T20 globetrotter, competing in other franchise competitions such as the IPL, the Hundred, and the PSL. He has also played in the CPL and MLC, providing him a feel for the conditions offered by the two T20 World Cup hosts. Namibia would hope that the experience he has gathered over the last few years will prepare him for a successful campaign, as he is critical to their ambitions with both bat and ball.

Aqib Ilyas is not only a top-order batsman, but also a capable spinner. He was the ACC Premier Cup’s highest wicket-taker, with 12 scalps in five matches at an economy rate of 6.22. In the series finale against Namibia, he took 2 for 21 from three overs before scoring a 29-ball 51 in a failed pursuit of 213. Namibia will be mindful of the threat he poses, but how he handles the additional burden of leading the squad remains to be seen.

Jones the hero as stunning knock gives USA to victory in the T20 World Cup opener.

From 48/2 in chase of 195 at one point, the USA went on to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 opener with 14 balls remaining.

USA vs Canada in Dallas Aaron Jones’ amazing 94* from 40 balls, including 10 sixes and four fours, and Andries Gous’ superb 65 propelled the USA to a seven-wicket victory over Canada in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 first match.

Toss: USA won the toss and elected to bowl first

Kaleem Sana, a left-arm seamer, gave Canada the perfect start by dismissing the dangerous Steve Taylor for a duck. Andries Gous joined skipper Monank Patel, and the two attempted to increase the scoring rate with a flurry of boundaries.

Canada struck with Monank’s wicket, but the USA regained momentum with Aaron Jones leading the charge. Jones, alongside Andries Gous, accelerated the scoring rate, adding 45 runs in three overs. Jones smashed three sixes in an over, achieving the fastest T20I fifty for his team in just 22 balls. Gous joined the onslaught, reaching his fifty in the next over. Despite Gous’ departure after a solid 65, Jones stayed unbeaten on 94 off 40 balls, steering the USA to a convincing seven-wicket victory.

Will cricket in the United States eventually take off after the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024?

Historically, cricket has failed to gain traction in the United States; what potential does the T20 World Cup have to change the tide?

As the United States prepares to host 16 matches of the latest ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, there is optimism that cricket can finally establish a foothold in this lucrative and populous market.

The timing seems ideal: Following the T20 World Cup, the second edition of the privately run Major League Cricket franchise tournament will attract some of the game’s biggest stars to the US. Additionally, cricket will make its return to the Olympics at the LA 2028 Games for the first time since 1900.

However, cricket in the US has historically struggled with governance issues, factionalism, and financial mismanagement. The sport’s expansion has been hindered by the country’s vast size and the diverse cricketing cultures present—factors that are also seen as potential strengths.

Here’s a look at cricket’s past in the US and what might lie ahead:

Does a cricket culture exist in the USA?
When the USA and Canada face off in the opening match on June 1, it will be a reminder that these two countries played the first international cricket match in 1844, which Canada won after two days of play.

However, the sport receded in prominence until the latter half of the 20th century. Increased immigration, particularly from the Indian subcontinent, saw cricket grow within communities from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Caribbean, albeit without much cohesion.

The United States of America Cricket Association (USACA), a national governing body, was established in 1965, but over the following thirty years it battled to bring the disparate and divided cricket communities together.

Responsibilities of State and People

By: Abdul Basit Alvi)

Regrettably, there’s a prevalent belief that the State bears sole responsibility for serving us, with no reciprocal duties on our part. However, in any society, there exists a delicate equilibrium of responsibilities shared between the governing body and its citizens. This equilibrium is the bedrock of a functional and harmonious community. Recognizing and fulfilling these responsibilities are vital for the overall well-being and advancement of the nation.

In the context of AJK, it’s noteworthy to observe that Pakistan, the Pakistani Army, and the State of AJK are effectively fulfilling their respective responsibilities, contributing physically and financially to the functioning of the state. In the stunning vistas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), celebrated for its rich cultural legacy and breathtaking natural beauty, stands a testament to the enduring unity between Pakistan and its northern regions.

The manner in which the Pakistani government treats AJK showcases a strong alliance and a sincere commitment to the welfare of its people. Since its independence in 1947, AJK has maintained a unique bond with Pakistan, one that transcends mere administrative divisions. The Pakistani government has consistently demonstrated its dedication to the advancement of AJK through various means, including financial aid, infrastructure development, and political representation.

Economically, Pakistan provides substantial support to enhance AJK’s infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social welfare initiatives, thus enhancing the quality of life and delivering essential services to its populace. Furthermore, the government actively promotes investment in AJK, fostering economic expansion and employment opportunities across diverse sectors such as tourism, agriculture, and energy. Infrastructure projects such as roads, bridges, and communication networks have been given priority to improve connectivity and stimulate regional development. Additionally, investments in healthcare and education highlight Pakistan’s acknowledgment of the importance of human capital in fostering sustainable progress. Politically, residents of AJK are represented in Pakistan’s institutions, ensuring their voices are heard nationally and reflecting Pakistan’s strong solidarity with the people of AJK.

Pakistan’s commitment is further evidenced by ongoing investments across various sectors, including education, healthcare, and infrastructure, with the aim of raising living standards and promoting economic prosperity. Numerous educational institutions have been established in AJK, providing not just academic education but also serving as platforms for cultural exchange and the promotion of tolerance among students. Financial aid programs and scholarships are available to support students from underprivileged backgrounds.

Access to quality healthcare is vital for community well-being, and Pakistan has established hospitals, clinics, and healthcare centers across AJK staffed by skilled professionals and equipped with modern facilities. Regular outreach programs and vaccination campaigns address public health concerns and prevent disease spread. Infrastructure development is crucial for economic growth, and Pakistan has initiated various projects in AJK, including road networks, bridges, and dams, creating job opportunities and stimulating economic activity. Reliable electricity is essential, and Pakistan has invested in energy projects, including hydroelectric power plants, to ensure a sustainable energy supply for residents.

AJK’s natural beauty makes it a potential tourist destination, and Pakistan has launched initiatives to promote tourism, focusing on infrastructure development while preserving the region’s environment and cultural heritage. Given the region’s vulnerability to natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, Pakistan has established a comprehensive disaster management framework to provide timely relief and rehabilitation assistance to affected areas in AJK. This includes the setup of emergency shelters, distribution of food and medical supplies, and efforts towards reconstruction to aid communities in their recovery and rebuilding efforts.

In an effort to uplift marginalized communities and empower vulnerable groups, Pakistan has implemented various socio-economic support programs in AJK. These initiatives focus on poverty alleviation, women’s empowerment, vocational training, and the promotion of small-scale entrepreneurship. Through these programs, resources and opportunities are provided to improve livelihoods and foster inclusive development.

The Pakistan Army, dedicated to ensuring national security and promoting socio-economic progress, has played a crucial role in AJK. In addition to its defense responsibilities, the army has undertaken numerous initiatives to uplift communities, enhance infrastructure, and enhance the overall quality of life. This involves the establishment and restoration of essential infrastructure such as roads, bridges, educational institutions, medical facilities, and water supply systems. Through its engineering corps, the army leads projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, improving transportation, and delivering vital services to remote regions. These initiatives not only enhance the quality of life for residents but also contribute to socio-economic advancement and regional integration.

Operating various medical facilities across AJK, the army offers high-quality healthcare services, including routine check-ups, surgeries, and specialized treatments. Mobile medical camps are also deployed to reach underserved populations in remote areas. Beyond healthcare, the army conducts awareness campaigns on preventive measures, maternal and child health, and hygiene education, aiming to improve community well-being and prevent diseases.

Recognizing the importance of education in community empowerment, the Pakistan Army has established schools, colleges, and vocational training centers in AJK. These institutions not only provide academic education but also offer technical and vocational skills training, preparing students for employment opportunities. Moreover, scholarships and financial aid programs are available to support talented students from disadvantaged backgrounds, enabling them to pursue higher education and realize their potential.

In addition to these efforts, the Pakistan Army engages with communities in AJK through outreach programs, cultural exchanges, and sports events, fostering camaraderie, promoting interfaith harmony, and strengthening the relationship between the army and the civilian population. Additionally, the army hosts programs for youth development, leadership workshops, and recreational activities, aiming to direct the energies of young individuals positively and cultivate a culture of peace and tolerance. It’s important to highlight that the Pakistan Army maintains a close relationship with the people of AJK, as evidenced by the significant presence of Kashmiris in various ranks of the army, demonstrating equal opportunities for recruitment and progression.

In contrast, the situation in IIOJK has been characterized by neglect and deprivation for an extended period, with residents facing a shortage of fundamental facilities and essential services despite being a so-called integral part of the broader Indian state. The Indian government, Indian Army, and the Government of IIOJK have failed in fulfilling their responsibilities. Persistent systemic discrimination deprives the people of IIOJK of access to various amenities readily available in other parts of India. The healthcare infrastructure in IIOJK remains severely lacking, with shortages of hospitals, medical facilities, and trained professionals. Residents often face long journeys to receive basic healthcare, leading to delays in treatment and worsening health conditions. Furthermore, the region struggles with insufficient medical equipment, diagnostic facilities, and essential medications, further endangering the health and well-being of the population.

Similarly, many in IIOJK are denied access to quality education, a fundamental right, due to a scarcity of educational institutions. The shortage of schools, colleges, and universities limits educational opportunities for children and youth. Moreover, the curriculum often overlooks the cultural diversity and historical significance of the region, perpetuating a sense of alienation and erasing identity among the younger generation.

Infrastructure development in IIOJK lags far behind other regions of India, evident in deteriorating roads, inadequate transportation networks, and unreliable public services. Essential services such as clean water, reliable electricity, and adequate sanitation facilities are frequently lacking or unreliable, significantly reducing the quality of life for residents. Additionally, the region suffers from a lack of investment in crucial infrastructure projects, hindering economic growth and overall development. Unemployment rates in IIOJK exceed those in other Indian regions, with limited job prospects and economic opportunities for locals.

Despite the Indian government’s so-called welfare initiatives and social safety nets, they fall short in adequately addressing the needs of IIOJK residents. Programs aimed at poverty alleviation, healthcare subsidies, and food assistance often fail to reach or inadequately cover the population in the region, exacerbating socio-economic disparities. The ongoing neglect perpetuates a cycle of poverty and deprivation, depriving vulnerable communities of crucial resources and support systems.

A thorough analysis reveals significant disparities, with AJK showcasing commendable governance while IIOJK lags behind. AJK has flourished under a stable political environment, characterized by smooth power transitions and a functional democratic framework. This stability has enabled the government to focus on development initiatives and welfare programs. AJK’s economy has experienced consistent growth, driven by investments in hydroelectric power, infrastructure, tourism, and agriculture. Substantial progress has been made in healthcare, education, and social services, resulting in higher human development indices such as life expectancy, literacy rates, and per capita income compared to IIOJK.

In contrast, IIOJK has grappled with recurrent political instability, marked by frequent administrative changes and strained relations with the Indian central government. The region has been plagued by widespread human rights violations, including restrictions on freedom of expression, assembly, and movement. The situation has deteriorated since the abrogation of Article 370, with escalating atrocities committed by Indian authorities and armed forces against the populace. The economy of IIOJK has suffered from inadequate investment, limited job opportunities, and a decline in tourism. Social unrest persists, characterized by recurring protests and heavy-handed tactics by security forces against civilians.

Additionally, unfounded claims circulate regarding the affordability of basic necessities such as electricity and flour, purportedly being lower in IIOJK compared to AJK. However, this assertion is entirely false and aims to sow discord against AJK and Pakistan. Indeed, the actual prices of flour in AJK stand at 1000 PKR for 20 kg and 2000 PKR for 40 kg, whereas in IIOJK, the cost of 40 kg of flour is 4670 Rupees. Electricity tariffs for residential and commercial purposes exhibit notable differences between AJK and IIOJK, with rates of 3 PKR and 10 PKR in AJK, respectively, as opposed to 18 Rps and 49 Rps in IIOJK. This contrast highlights the distinct strategies pursued by the respective governments. AJK places a strong emphasis on development, stability, and the well-being of its residents, contrasting with IIOJK’s struggles with political instability, human rights issues, and economic stagnation.

The comparison clearly demonstrates that Pakistan, along with its Army and the State of AJK, is fulfilling its responsibilities far more effectively than what India is doing with IIOJK. It’s essential for the people of AJK to acknowledge and fulfill their own responsibilities. While AJK lacks significant industries or agricultural output, relying heavily on support from Pakistan for resources, it’s crucial to recognize the contributions made by other provinces of Pakistan, such as Punjab and Sindh, which have thriving industries and agricultural sectors, contributing significantly to government revenue without seeking subsidies. The share of AJK in lieu of taxes and revenue generation is very less.

When it comes to utilities like electricity, it’s important to understand the complexity involved in its provision, including the costs of equipment, human resources, maintenance, and operation. Similarly, the pricing of commodities like flour should consider all associated costs. It’s vital to approach demands realistically and logically, taking into account all aspects of the situation.

The state is diligently fulfilling its responsibilities, and now it’s incumbent upon the people to do the same. Rather than solely focusing on personal gains, it’s crucial for individuals to adopt a positive attitude and actively contribute to the welfare and progress of the entire country and state.

‘Point scoring’ can be applied to live streaming incidents involving political figures: SC

By Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan dismissed the KP government’s request to stream the NAB amendments case live, citing the possibility that political “point-scoring” could occur from the airing of court hearings in cases involving politicians.

In response to a government appeal from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa asking for live broadcasting of the hearing in the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) amendment case, the top court rendered a comprehensive decision on Saturday.

The top court noted, referring to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, that there is a genuine chance that hearings led by political party leaders who are not this court’s advocates could be used for political point-scoring and other point-scoring as well as for matters that do not concern

On May 30, the apex court issued a 4-1 ruling rejecting the plea for live broadcasting, with Justice Athar Minallah disapproving of the majority decision.

Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa led a bigger SC bench consisting of Justices Amin-ud-din Khan, Jamal Khan Mandokhail, Minallah, and Hasan Azhar Rizvi, which heard the case.

“This was one of the main factors we took into account when rejecting the application. And as the day went on, our suspicions were validated. In addition to mentioning other instances, the general elections that were held on February 8, 2023, a commission of investigation, and his detention, Mr. Niazi, the founder of the Pakistan Terrorism Institute, addressed this court on May 30, 2024. None of these issues are related to the topic at hand.

The order stated, “This cannot be allowed as it would obstruct the proper administration of justice.”

It went on to say that discussing issues that are not being considered could have an impact on how the public views the situation as well as the rights of those who are not in front of us, including their basic right to a fair trial and due process.

The KP advocate general has not explained “why the sudden interest, or desire, for live-streaming, when his Government did not join the hearings of CP No. 21/2022, let alone make a similar request when this Court was hearing the petition,” the order stated, adding that the application is not maintainable and has no merit.

To conclude, we would want to clarify that, as things stand right now, this Court has exclusive jurisdiction over requests to live broadcast or live-stream, even though they can be made and challenged.”

China’s scientists create the biggest ion trap quantum simulation in the world.

Chinese scientists have achieved a breakthrough in quantum simulation, constructing the world’s largest ion trap system with single-qubit resolution. This milestone represents a significant advancement toward the realization of large-scale quantum computing.

The study, published in the journal Nature, was praised by a peer reviewer as the largest quantum simulation or computation ever conducted in a trapped ion system, marking a noteworthy milestone. Led by quantum physicist Duan Luming, renowned for his groundbreaking research, the team’s work promises a potent tool for exploring the complexities of quantum science and laying the groundwork for large-scale quantum computing.

Duan, the corresponding author of the paper, highlighted the potential applications of their innovation in various fields such as materials and pharmaceutical development, engineering, and artificial intelligence.

Qubits, akin to classical computer bits, are fundamental units in quantum computers. However, due to their delicate quantum nature, consistent control and manipulation of qubits pose significant challenges.

The study emphasises two crucial features for large-scale quantum computing and simulation: a high qubit capacity and the ability to individually read out the state of each qubit. Ion traps, which confine ions using electromagnetic fields, have emerged as a leading platform for quantum information processing. While ion traps have demonstrated simulations with tens of ions, achieving stable trapping of a large number of ions while maintaining precise individual manipulation remains a key challenge.

The MAGA Web Demands Armageddon

Extreme rhetoric online frequently serves as a precursor to real-world actions, although the transition may not occur immediately.

Following the jury’s decision to convict Donald Trump on 34 felony charges yesterday, Bronze Age Pervert, the online persona of influencer Costin Alamariu, retweeted one of his previous posts from March. The post featured a movie clip depicting armed individuals storming buildings and engaging in violence. In the accompanying text, Bronze Age Pervert joked about this clip being real footage of a “well-planned neutralization operation” following Trump’s reelection.

The online rhetoric among some MAGA supporters has once again turned to threats of violence. While many Republicans expressed outrage at Trump’s felony verdict, others within the right-wing online community used more extreme language. Some Proud Boys chapters posted the word “war” on their Telegram channels, as reported by Wired. Reuters also found instances of Trump supporters advocating violence against jurors and the judge in the case, as well as calls for civil unrest and insurrection. Additionally, an anonymous right-wing account gained traction by posting “Third World Problems Require Third World Solutions” overlaid on a video of the 2020 military coup in Myanmar.

The incitement of violence and aggressive political retribution has historically been associated with the extreme fringes of the right-wing spectrum. However, recent trends show that this rhetoric is now emerging from prominent figures within the movement.

Jared Holt, an extremism researcher at the Institute for Strategic Dialogue, noted that some of the most intense rhetoric is now coming from influential voices within the right-wing community. For example, Auron MacIntyre, a podcast host for Blaze Media, called for Republican district attorneys to manipulate the courts and swiftly incarcerate “corrupt Democrats.” Similarly, Sean Davis, CEO of The Federalist, advocated for the right to “terrorize the Left” using their own methods until it is dismantled.

Despite the alarming rhetoric, immediate violent actions may not occur. However, the potential for real-world violence inspired by online posts always exists, as seen in past incidents such as the 2016 “Pizzagate” shooting and the 2022 Buffalo shooting. Mass mobilizations typically require careful planning and groundwork. The events leading up to the January 6, 2021 Capitol riot unfolded over months, with increasingly heated rhetoric and violent memes circulating within MAGA circles.

The anti-lockdown protests at state houses played a significant role in laying the groundwork for subsequent right-wing mobilisations. These protests provided a platform for like-minded individuals to connect and express their grievances, setting the stage for larger-scale actions. Additionally, two MAGA protests in Washington, D.C., prior to January 6 demonstrated the feasibility of organising large gatherings in the capital, further expanding the realm of possibilities for right-wing activists.
