Former Pakistan cricket greats and supporters are incensed about their country’s T20 World Cup loss to rival India.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — Pakistan’s cricket supporters and former players are incensed over their team’s cautious batting after rival India emerged victorious in the Twenty20 World Cup final in New York with an exciting six-run victory.

Pakistan faces the risk of missing out on the Super 8 stage of the competition, which the United States and the West Indies are co-hosting, following a second straight defeat in Group A on Sunday.

Playing in its inaugural World Cup, the United States had created history last Thursday when it defeated Pakistan in a Super Over after both sides were tied at 159 in the scheduled 20-over match.

Out of the four groups, only two teams move on to the next round. Pakistan must thus win its final two matches against Canada and Ireland in order to advance, and it must also pray that the outcomes of the other group games go its way.

“I feel like I should have a template text that says ‘disappointed and hurt’ that gets posted automatically,” former fast bowler for Pakistan Shoaib Akhtar commented on X, the platform that was just Twitter.

On the sports station PTV Sports on national television, Akhtar stated, “We should give credit to Pakistan; they tried their best to lose this game. I could not think of any other way.” Nobody urged you to hit or do anything foolish; it was just a run-a-ball game. Disappointed, shocked, and shocked, but it was to be anticipated.

According to Akhtar, there is no chance that the Pakistani cricket team would improve in the near future because its members are just regular players.

He declared, “They won’t change.” You can’t expect exceptional things from regular people; you’re asking for too much. Once mediocrity sets in, it’s impossible to rise beyond. For the past 20 years, that is what you have gotten out of your investment in cricket.

The International Cricket Council was also chastised by Akhtar for the drop-in pitches in New York, which had resulted in five low-scoring games.

He said, “Who makes that kind of tracks?” “You were given a year to get ready. Hi, ICC, please awaken.

After its fast bowlers had dismissed India for 119 in 19 overs on yet another unforgiving surface where hitters were still finding it difficult, Pakistan squandered a golden opportunity. When set batsman Mohammad Rizwan made a rash shot against Jasprit Bumrah, the score was cruising along at 80-3 in 13 overs. Eventually, Pakistan was limited at 113-7.

“Batsmen throw it away as Pakistan lose to India in low-scoring thriller,” the English daily Dawn’s front page headline said. Additionally, a photo of Rizwan on his knee following a clean bowling and Bumrah and Virat Kohli celebrating the dismissal were plastered throughout the newspaper.

Another English daily used the title, “Pakistan squander solid start as India claim T20 thriller.”

After Pakistan’s loss to India, former fast bowling greats Waqar Younis and Wasim Akram, who were commentating on the match from New York, also let out their frustration.

“I can’t teach them, they’ve been playing cricket for ten years,” Akram remarked. “Rizwan is not aware of the game.” He should have understood that Rizwan went for the big shot and lost his wicket, but Bumrah was handed the ball to take wickets and that the prudent thing would have been to play his deliveries conservatively.

Younis claimed that the batters’ performance was awful.

“What should I say, Pakistan, if you can’t win this game?” he said. Pakistan truly spilled the contents that were placed on a dish for you. The Pakistani batsmen’ performance was awful. In the beginning, there were a few couples, but they were unable to complete the game.

Thousands of ardent cricket enthusiasts flocked to big screens in Pakistan’s main cities to witness the highly anticipated match between the two nuclear-armed countries, who have not engaged in a bilateral match in more than ten years but frequently face off in ICC competitions.

At least 17,000 spectators attended the live broadcast of the match on screens at the Pindi Cricket Stadium “fan park,” which was organised by the ICC.

After leaving the stadium in shock with his four pals, Ibrahim Irfan, a 20-year-old university student, said, “I can’t believe it.” In the mildest, it’s repulsive. They are chasing such a modest objective; how can they lose a game? We require a thorough revision. The same worthless batters, such as Iftikhar Ahmed, Shadab Khan, and Imad Wasim, are getting old and boring to watch.

Another fan who saw the match on a huge screen in Karachi, Ahmed Awan, claimed that Pakistani sportsmen compete for their own personal achievements.

“They did a good job of bowling, but their batting was lacking.” They should bat first both in the middle order and with the tailenders because they are competing for personal records. The first players should enter the game in the second half, whether it is Babar or Rizwan.

The 2023–24 Pakistan Economic Survey will be revealed tomorrow.

Tuesday will see the release of the Pakistan Economic Survey 2023–24, a pre-budget document that summarises the key socioeconomic accomplishments from the previous fiscal year 2023–24.

The pre-budget paper will be introduced by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb at 5:30 p.m., the Finance Ministry announced in a news release on Monday.

The survey will include information on the main socioeconomic advancements, business performance, and market trends in a number of economic sectors, such as capital markets, health, education, transportation, and communication, as well as agriculture, manufacturing and industry, services, energy, and information technology and telecom.

The survey will also provide a detailed description of the annual changes of the main economic indicators with reference to employment, population, employment trends, trade and payments, public debt, inflation, employment, climate change, and social safeguards.

Estimates from the Planning Commission presented to the Annual Plan Coordination Committee indicated that the economy was facing serious difficulties at the start of 2023–2024, mostly as a result of the previous year’s economic disruptions that had a delayed effect.

Nonetheless, the economy expanded by 2.4% in 2023–2024 and recovered somewhat.

Due to record-breaking production of wheat, cotton, and rice, the agriculture sector grew by 6.3 percent in 2023–2024, leading the overall expansion.

NEC gathering transpired
Concurrently, all chief ministers attended a meeting of the freshly established National Economic Council today.

The administration will make the most use of the resources already in place to promote prosperity, economic recovery, and growth, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

He went on to state that the federation would guarantee engagement with the provinces and other relevant parties in all significant economic decisions so that decisions that would benefit the nation’s growth and garner the support of everyone could be taken.

The suggested development plan for 2024–25 as well as the yearly development plan and performance for 2023–24 were presented to the council.

The growth rate goal for the following year was raised, it was announced to the attendees of the conference.

According to Prime Minister Shehbaz, agriculture is the foundation of the national economy and its growth depends heavily on province-to-province cooperation.

He stated that the strategy ought to incorporate the provinces’ suggestions pertaining to agriculture and other areas.

The macroeconomic framework for the annual plan 2024–25, the targets for the economic growth rate, and the publishing of the annual plan 2024–25 were all authorised by the council.

Poet Ahmed Farhad is listed as “missing” by IHC till he gets home safely.

It was revealed on Monday that Kashmiri poet Ahmed Farhad would be considered a “enforced disappearance/missing person” until he returns home, following an order by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani of the Islamabad High Court (IHC).

A copy of the written order from Friday’s court can be found on Dawn.com. It said, in part, that Syed Farhad Ali Shah was considered a missing person until he returned home safely.

According to reports, Farhad was kidnapped from his house on May 15. The Pakistani Human Rights Commission has demanded that Farhad be released right now.

The same day, Shah’s wife filed a petition with the IHC asking for his recovery, his presence in court, and the identification, tracking down, and prosecution of those accountable for his absence.

At the first hearing on the case, which was held a day earlier, Justice Kayani threatened to call the defence secretary if Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jameel Zafar failed to bring Shah back, no matter what.

Advocates Imaan Zainab Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha defended Shah’s wife in court today; SSP Zafar, Assistant Attorney General Usman Rasool Ghuman, and other authorities were also present.

According to the formal ruling, which Dawn.com has a copy of, the SSP told the court that an investigation was underway and that a special investigative team had also been created for the purpose.

The SSP said that letters were sent to various law enforcement agencies, other suspicious cars were searched, and geo-fencing was implemented in addition to the collection of CCTV evidence from the event.

According to the order, “on the next date of hearing, secretary, Ministry of Defence is directed to submit concise report after seeking report from relevant quarters of Inter Services Intelligence, as well as from Military Intelligence, with an explanation as to how and under what circumstances the detaine has been kidnapped and abducted from Islamabad Capital Territory,” because “at this stage, learned counsel for petitioner contends that petitioner has specifically nominated Inter Services Intelligence in abduction.”

The matter has been postponed until Monday.

Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, a politician, stated that he was present during the hearing and expressed his satisfaction with the court’s “categorical position” on the issue.

When questioned about the situation during a news conference, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that he had spoken with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) about it and that a search was already underway.

“They are looking, and hopefully they will figure something out.”

The hearing today
Justice Kayani questioned the SSP about receiving a “positive response” from organisations in situations involving missing people investigations throughout the hearing.

“You either claim that the man was taken away by Raw (Indian intelligence) personnel when they arrived. The judge said, “Then I will accept it.”

Justice Kayani said that none of the missing person cases that have been reported this year have had their investigations concluded.

“Unfortunately, everyone in Pakistan—including myself—knows exactly who is doing what, but we have chosen to close our eyes,” he said.

“What a fantastic system—the missing individual isn’t even allowed to return and provide a statement. The missing individual and his family are instructed to remain silent when they find them.

According to Justice Kayani, people who engage in the practice “should be hanged” and laws against forced disappearances should be put in place.

The court declared, “The fact is, those who criticise the state are missing, with the majority of them being social activists and journalists.”

In my own role, I am calling the defence secretary and the ISI sector commander [for Islamabad]. I will call ministers and then the prime minister if the secretary is unable to guarantee the recovery.

“The punishment will have to be borne by the IG if someone goes missing from the jurisdiction of the Islamabad High Court,” he continued.

Justice Kayani also inquired as to whether the issue might be resolved by sending a letter to the security services.

The poet was detained, according to the judge, only for saying a few offensive remarks.

“Every day, insults are directed at people on social media. What will you do? Are you going to pick everyone up? Give me another choice if it doesn’t work for you.

The judge threatened to file a contempt of court show-cause case against Shah if he could not be located.

“I completely trust the police.” Nobody else represents the state as the cops do, he declared.

Analysts predict that Pakistan’s budget on Wednesday would try to pave the way for an IMF bailout.

ISLAMABAD In order to bolster its case for a fresh bailout agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Pakistan’s coalition government is anticipated to set out aggressive budgetary objectives in the 2024/2025 (July–June) budget on Wednesday, according to officials and experts.

In order to prevent a default on a loan that is expected to be worth between $6 billion and $8 billion, Pakistan is in discussions with the IMF for the purpose of supporting its economy, which is developing at the slowest rate in the area.

According to Ali Hasanain, chairman of the economics department at Lahore University of Management Sciences, “the budget holds critical significance for Pakistan’s IMF programme and must close the gap between our revenue collection and total expenditure; it is thus likely to be contractionary.”

Pakistan just avoided defaulting last summer because of a $3 billion, nine-month IMF bailout.

Its external and fiscal deficits have been reduced, but at the cost of severe declines in industrial and economic activities and high inflation, which averaged over 30% in the previous fiscal year and 24.52% in the previous 11 months.

In contrast to the 2% growth objective for this year and the economic decline for last year, a 3.6% growth target is anticipated for the future year.

Since winning the February elections, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has made a public promise to implementing strict reforms; yet, political pressure has mounted on his coalition due to rising costs, unemployment, and a dearth of new job prospects.

It will be difficult for the government to completely execute all of the steps that the IMF is probably recommending, such as raising income by expanding the tax base and raising electricity tariffs, Standard Chartered noted in a report on the budget last month.

Standard Chartered stated in the letter that “deeply ingrained structural reforms were seen as a difficult task to implement, a vocal and popular opposition, and a weak coalition government were seen as reasons for caution.”

“The risk that front-loading tough fiscal measures could face a backlash from the public was a key concern among local stakeholders,” the statement continued.

It will be difficult for the government to completely execute all of the steps that the IMF is probably recommending, such as raising income by expanding the tax base and raising electricity tariffs, Standard Chartered noted in a report on the budget last month.

It will also be the first test for recently appointed Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, who was previously the head of HBL, the biggest bank in Pakistan. Sharif brought Aurangzeb in to provide new policy ideas to deal with enduring issues in the $350 billion economy.

Prior finance ministers have avoided difficult decisions like slashing government expenditure, lowering subsidies, and raising taxes on politically touchy industries like retail, real estate, and agriculture.

Chief investment officer of Lakson Investments Mustafa Pasha stated he thinks it would be challenging to take such action.

He noted that failing to satisfy IMF demands will likely result in a delay in a new plan that Pakistan cannot afford for long. “Any attempt to tax agriculture, retail, and real estate will likely be poorly structured and face legal challenges which will prevent any collection,” he said.

Today is the start of the NA budget session.

Targets for the revenues from privatisation will be another important item in the budget to keep an eye on. Selling a portion of its national airline, Pakistan is attempting to make its first significant sale in almost 20 years.

It is anticipated to be the first of several sales of businesses that are losing money, especially in the unstable electricity industry.

Blinken to sell Gaza cease-fire agreement in the Middle East

Since the beginning of the Gaza War, the senior US official has made eight trips to the region.
“If you want a ceasefire, press Hamas to say yes,” was Mr. Blinken’s stated message after meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, will speak with him later on Monday in Jerusalem.

For months, mediators in the region—among whom Qatar is one—have been trying to broker a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.
Mr. Netanyahu has pledged to oppose any such agreement unless all hostages are freed and Hamas’s military and political capacity is eliminated.
Following fierce gunfights between Israel’s soldiers and Hamas within and outside the Nuseirat refugee camp, four additional prisoners were released on Saturday with the support of airstrikes.
274 individuals, including civilians and children, were killed in the raid, according to the Gaza health ministry, which is governed by Hamas. Israel claims that the operation resulted in less than 100 deaths.
Following the offensive, the political head of Hamas declared that his organisation would not accept a ceasefire agreement unless Palestinian security was ensured.

Using his trip, Mr. Blinken is trying to make the case that Hamas is the only thing standing in the way of the truce for captive release that the US is sorely trying to negotiate.
“Is Hamas interested in putting a stop to this dispute, the war it initiated, or not? We will ascertain,” he said.
“But it’s clear that virtually the entire world has come together in support of the proposal.”
The three-phase plan that Mr. Biden unveiled ten days ago called for the reconstruction of Gaza with help from outside and a six-week truce that would eventually become permanent.
To successfully bounce the two parties into movement, the president referred to it as Israel’s plan.
The wording is “nearly identical,” according to the Biden administration, to one that Hamas approved last month.

It is probable that Hamas would need assurances that the proposal will result in an enduring truce and an entire Israeli pullout from the Gaza Strip. It is unclear if indirect conversations can continue since, according to US and Israeli sources, its political leadership in Doha has not yet publicly responded to the idea.
In its operations in southern Israel on October 7, Hamas murdered over 1,200 people and kidnapped about 251 more.
There are still about 116 people in Palestinian land, 41 of whom the army claims are dead.
In accordance with an agreement reached in November, Hamas released 240 Palestinian inmates from Israeli jails and 105 hostages in exchange for a week-long truce.
According to the health ministry administered by Hamas, the number of fatalities in Gaza has topped 37,000.

Suri, the daughter of Tom Cruise, is adamant about going it alone in Hollywood.

Tom Cruise, Suri Cruise’s well-known father, is not interested in helping her become well-known.

Suri, the daughter of Tom Cruise, is adamant about going it alone in Hollywood.
The renowned dad of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Suri Cruise, is determined to succeed in Hollywood on her own, without assistance from her well-known father.

According to a recent story, the 18-year-old used her mother’s middle name, Suri Noelle, in place of her father’s last name when performing in a performance of the musical Head Over Heels.

According to a person close to Katie and Suri, who spoke with Closer Magazine, the adolescent is determined to succeed in her job on the basis of her own abilities and perseverance rather than depending on her family’s connections.

“Katie is fostering her career and assisting her in taking the appropriate steps to gradually build a resume that will get her the right sort of jobs,” they added. “She is a very talented actress.”

“Suri is starting with stage plays – that way she can work on her craft and really get her skills up by turning to TV and movies,” the insider continued.

They went on, “This isn’t a money grab.” “She wants to build a successful career that she can be proud of, and I have no doubt that she will succeed in doing so with her mother’s careful guidance.”

The insider stated that Suri “certainly doesn’t need Tom’s help, nor his name, to make it as an actress” before drawing to an end.

Prince Harry is given kind counsel on King Charles’s reconciliation.

It has been suggested that Prince Harry use Archie and Lilibet to make amends with King Charles

Prince Harry is given kind counsel on King Charles’s reconciliation.
It has been suggested that Prince Harry mend fences with the royal family, especially with his sick father, King Charles.

King Charles is eager to see the Duke’s children, Archie and Lilibet, so royal expert Robert Hardman has recommended the Duke to bring them to the UK, according to Cheat Sheet, as reported by Daily Express UK.

According to the royal expert, welcoming Meghan Markle, Archie, and Lilibet to the UK would be a first step in mending fences and “normalising” relations with the monarch.

“Once that happens, it’s not such big news when it happens again,” Robert Hardman clarified. After then, things start to move forward.

Since 2022, Prince Harry and Meghan have not travelled to the UK as a family. Harry returned to the country for the Invictus Games last month.

In June 2022, Prince Charles’ younger son travelled to England alongside Archie, Lilibet, and Meghan Markle to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s 70 years in the monarchy.

Addictive Behaviours Can Be Triggered by Internet Addiction: Discover

According to a recent study, persons with internet addiction may have altered brain chemistry.
A recent study found that internet addiction may have an impact on young people’s brain chemistry and may also result in addictive habits.

A study that was published in the PLOS Mental Health, according to The Guardian, examined other studies that used fMRI to look at how different brain areas function in internet addiction.

“Adolescence is a crucial developmental stage during which people go through significant changes in their biology, cognition, and personalities,” stated Max Chang, the primary author of the research.

“The results of our investigation indicate that this may result in potentially detrimental behavioural and developmental changes that may have an effect on the lives of teenagers,” he continued. For instance, individuals could find it difficult to keep up connections and social activities, lie about their internet habits, and have erratic food and sleep patterns.

The author said that doctors may recommend family therapy or psychotherapy that focuses on the main symptoms of internet addiction, or they could prescribe medication targeted at specific brain areas.

“Parental education on internet addiction is an important avenue of prevention from a public health standpoint,” Chang underlined. Screen time impulsivity may be better managed and the risk factors associated with online addiction can be reduced by parents who are aware of the early warning symptoms and start of internet addiction.

PM of Pakistan promises to eradicate “terrorism” after an IED attack claims the lives of seven troops.

KEY POINTS Seven army personnel, including a captain, were killed on Sunday in a roadside explosion in northwest Pakistan.

PM Sharif is present during Captain Faraz Ilyas’s funeral prayers at Chunian, a city in eastern Pakistan.

ISLAMABAD: One day after seven army personnel, including a captain, were murdered in northwest Pakistan by a roadside explosion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif pledged on Monday to eradicate “terrorism” from the nation.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army’s media wing, the explosion happened on Sunday when an improvised explosive device targeted a truck transporting the soldiers in the Lakki Marwat region of Pakistan’s northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.

KP, which borders Afghanistan, has seen a spike in violence in recent months, with many attacks on law enforcement, security personnel, and civilians. Although no organisation immediately took credit for the attack, the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which has taken credit for several previous strikes, is probably the organisation that would be under scrutiny.
PM Sharif wrote on his social media account X, “Deeply saddened by the martyrdom of Pak Army personnel including a captain in a targeted attack in Lakki Marwat District.” “We owe it to our brave soldiers and citizens to relentlessly eradicate terrorism from our country in order to atone for their sacrifices.”

In the eastern Pakistani city of Chunian, Sharif attended the burial prayers of Captain Faraz Ilyas, one of the seven army troops killed in the attack. The prime minister of Pakistan paid his respects to the late captain’s parents and other family members.
Sharif said to the father of the late captain, “We will not let this sacrifice go in vain.” “May Allah grant you endurance and maintain his guardianship.”
After that, Ilyas was buried with full military honours, and Sharif and the parents of the departed captain attended the solemn service.
The ISPR said in a different statement on Monday that it will not back down from its determination to combat militancy in the nation in the wake of assaults on its personnel.

The army’s propaganda wing declared, “Pakistan’s security forces are committed to eradicating the curse of terrorism and the sacrifices of our brave martyrs reinforce our resolve.”
The prime minister of Pakistan made the remarks as the nation experiences a resurgence of terrorist violence in its two western regions, KP and Balochistan, following the TTP’s termination of their shaky ceasefire with the government in November 2022.
According to authorities, in separate events in KP last week, three anti-polio vaccinators and two policeman were injured by gunmen, who also murdered at least four policemen and a prayer leader.Pakistan has attributed the recent spike in violence on terrorists operating out of Afghanistan, a neighbouring country. The claims are refuted by Kabul, which asserts that Islamabad is responsible for handling the internal problem of the escalating violence in Pakistan.

Shehbaz Sharif congratulates Modi on winning the prime minister position again.

On Sunday, Narendra Modi took the oath of office as India’s prime minister for a record third term.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi received congratulations from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on his reelection and swearing-in ceremony.

Through his social media account on X, Sharif sent Modi a message of congratulations, signifying a diplomatic move between the two neighbouring nations.

Congratulations to @narendramodi on assuming office as India’s prime minister.

On Sunday, Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of holding the position for the most consecutive terms as prime minister of India was matched by Narendra Modi. But this time, Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was unable to win a simple majority, which meant that a coalition government with the backing of other parties had to be formed.

In a formal ceremony conducted at the President’s House, Modi was sworn in by Indian President Draupadi Murmu. Newly elected assembly members as well as a number of notable visitors attended the function.

Also present at the swearing-in event were chiefs of state from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Mauritius, among other nearby nations.

After Jawaharlal Nehru, Modi is the second Indian prime minister to hold the position for three terms in a row, indicating that he would continue to rule the biggest democracy in the world.

The leaders of Pakistan and India sent each other congratulations, demonstrating a diplomatic effort to build goodwill between the two countries in the face of continuing geopolitical changes in the area.

Touted as one of the matchups of the year, the match lived up to the hype as it proceeded to the very end. Pakistan had to score 12 runs in the last two balls but could only manage six, despite their best efforts, as they were defeated by their old rivals.

India altered the tide of the match after Pakistan knocked them out for 119, thanks to wickets from Jasprit Bumrah (3-14) and Hardik Pandya (2-24), who fell on the critical wicket of Mohammad Rizwan (31), who was leading the batting.

Naseem Shah (3-21), Haris Rauf (3-21), and Mohammad Amir (2-21) were impressive with the ball in hand as Pakistan reduced India from 89-3 to 119 all out, with 30 runs coming as seven wickets fell. Pakistan won a crucial toss and elected to bowl, which looked to work to their favour.

The Pakistani batting assault, however, crumbled under the strain and was reduced from 72-2 to 88-5 themselves, unable to hit significant boundaries in the last overs to secure a commanding victory.

India now leads Group A, followed by the United States in second place. Currently ranked fourth, Pakistan has not yet secured a victory.

Hardik and Bumrah strike to cut short Pakistan’s pursuit

Babar Azam (13) and Mohammad Rizwan (10), who had set a target of 120 runs for India, appeared to be forming a strong partnership early in the second innings. However, the Pakistani captain was the first to fall, as he hit one to Suryakumar Yadav in the slips, leaving his team on 26-1 after 4.4 overs.

With a finger injury sustained from a Hardik delivery, Rizwan then began to develop with Usman Khan, taking their side to 57-1 at the midway point and giving them confidence that they might win.

But India quickly took advantage of the review, which demonstrated that he was struck in line and the ball was not slipping down as the umpire had initially believed, to remove Usman Khan (13) by leg before wicket with his first delivery of the session.

After gloving one up in the air from a Hardik delivery, Fakhar Zaman (13) was the man to partner with Rizwan in the middle as they proceeded at the required run rate of six. However, a mistake from the former saw him caught behind by Pant, leaving Pakistan on 73-3 after 13 overs and needing 47 runs from 42 balls.

With four wickets lost and more than a run a ball now needed—37 runs from 30 balls—Pakistan was under pressure as Bumrah emerged as the game’s hero after taking the crucial wicket of Rizwan with a stunning inswinger.

India took control of the game with a jittery vibe in the air as Pakistan was pursuing it. Shadab Khan (4) was caught behind by Pant after being tricked by Hardik’s short delivery, leaving Pakistan requiring 21 from 12 balls.

The thrilling conclusion to the match then reached fever pitch when Arshdeep caught Iftikhar Ahmed (5) after he hit one ball high on the last delivery of the 19th over, the opening ball of the twentieth was then grabbed behind by Imad Wasim, fifteen.

Pakistan added a single and then a reverse scoop boundary with 18 runs needed from five deliveries and seven wickets down, but they could only find six of the necessary 12 runs from the final two balls, leaving them agonisingly close to only their second-ever T20 World Cup victory against India and putting India ahead in Group A.

Pakistan’s defeat would be more painful given their impressive performance in the first innings, which saw them restrict India to 119 runs.

Star performances came from Rauf to remove Suryakumar (7), Shah to dismiss Virat Kohli (4), Patel (20), Dube (3), and Hardik (7) and Bumrah (0) in consecutive deliveries.

Amir will dismiss Ravindra Jadeja (0) and danger man Pant (42) in consecutive balls.

Pakistan’s chances of qualifying for the Super 8 are seriously hampered by their shocking setback to the USA, which has left them with two losses from two games despite their bowlers’ strong performance.

“This team lacks substance,” Mudassar Nazar criticises. Pakistan, captained by Babar Azam, following their six-run defeat against India

Former all-rounder Mudassar Nazar of Pakistan says he is not shocked by the poor performance of his country following their string of losses in the present T20 World Cup.

launching a vicious assault on the Babar Azam-led Pakistan team following their six-run defeat by India in Sunday’s Twenty20 World Cup match at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Westbury, New York.

Pakistan was therefore held to 113 for 7 in 20 overs in the low-scoring thriller, following their dismissal of India for 119 in 19 overs. Pakistan, who came in second in 2022, seemed certain to lose in the group stages after India’s six-run victory.

“The superior team prevailed. Because of the characteristics of the surface, Pakistan got extremely close,” Mudassar Nazar remarks on the television programme “Caught Behind.”Jasprit Bumrah, the captain of team India, was praised by Nazar when he returned with match stats of 3 for 14. After 14 overs, Pakistan was comfortably ahead of the 120-run goal when Bumrah struck the ball into the stumps, dismissing top-scorer Mohammad Rizwan for just 31. With the final delivery in an amazing spell, he claimed the wicket of Iftikhar Ahmed as well.

He declared, “Pakistan was fortunate that Jasprit Bumrah did not bowl with the new ball. He was the difference.” “Rohit was a great captain and made some good bowling adjustments.”

He stated, “We shouldn’t be surprised by the combination of the Pakistan cricket team and the results they have produced against the C team of New Zealand, Ireland, and then England.”

“We weren’t expecting to lose against the USA. However, based on how the US beat Bangladesh, one may infer that Pakistan will find it difficult to defeat the US squad in the World Cup, he continued.

The 68-year-old attacked the “pseudo all-rounders” on the Pakistani side and their management.

This squad lacks any real depth. They both do well as openers. After then, it’s sporadic. Pseudo all-rounders are not good enough to win important games, he claimed.

“Experts are needed in high-pressure situations. Big-hearted folks are what we need. Have our middle order ever used the bat to win us a tournament? They haven’t even won Pakistan Super League (PSL) games for their team. Then, we were anticipating that people would rise up against Bumrah; we are living in a fantasy world,” he continued.

Nazar defended Gary Kirsten, the recently hired coach of Pakistan, claiming that Kirsten is unaware of his team’s optimal starting lineup.

“Gary Kirsten is a wonderful coach, but he won’t know what his best playing lineup is until the competition is done. He is now unsure about his best XI. He ought to have been named the New Zealand series’ coach. He now depends on Babar Azam and Azhar Mahmood. He didn’t seem to know who his top three batters should be during the Super Over. Why wasn’t Azam Khan, who is renowned for his hitting, brought out to bat in the Super Over while he was playing? he asked.

Babar: “We didn’t perform well enough.”

According to Babar Azam, Pakistan’s inability to chase down 120 in their T20 World Cup 2024 encounter against India in New York was mostly due to their poor use of the batting powerplay and their overuse of dot balls in the middle overs.

Following Pakistan’s six-run loss, Babar remarked, “In our minds, we wanted to play normally, utilise the first six overs in the batting and [if we had done that] we win.” “But after losing one wicket, we failed to perform well in the first six overs. We didn’t capitalise on our opportunities, and sure, we repeated the same error after the ten overs. We were aiming for about 40 to 45 runs in the first six overs.”

Although Pakistan limited India to 119 runs, they did not surrender many wickets in the early going. After scoring 35 for 1 during the powerplay, they moved 72 for 2 in 12 overs. Following that, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya organised a collapse. Bumrah smashed through Mohammad Rizwan’s stumps with the opening delivery of his second stint, and Hardik took out Fakhar Zaman with an excellent short ball.

In the middle overs (6.1 to 15.6), Pakistan employed 29 dot balls, making 50 runs but losing three wickets.

“After 10 overs, we bowled brilliantly and might have taken 120. Here, the total is better. We batted at run-a-ball, but regrettably, we lost consecutive wickets and there were an excessive number of dot balls, according to Babar. “The strategy was straightforward: play regularly, rotate the strike, try to play one boundary, and be normal. Get five or six in an over. However, there were too many dot balls during that time, so the strain was on us. And we dropped two or three wickets in a row.”

Pakistan is now having trouble advancing past the first round of the World Cup after suffering back-to-back losses to begin the competition. Babar stated that they simply want to win their final two Group A matches before

PhD programme: “Media Capture and the Consequences for Journalistic Performance”

PhD post in the project “Biting the hand that feeds you: Commercially instigated media capture and the consequences for journalistic performance”

For the topic “Commercially instigated media capture and the consequences for journalistic performance: Biting the hand that feeds you?” we are looking for a PhD candidate. The PhD applicant will study the dynamics and impacts of commercially initiated media capture on journalistic outputs, public trust, policy, and individual journalists in the European setting during the course of this four-year project.

images 1 2

The PhD track is a component of the “Corporate Communication” and “Political Communication & Journalism” course areas within the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR, department of Communication Science) at the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. You’ll be employed by

Mark Boukes, Katjana Gattermann, Olga Eisele, and Kathleen Beckers will be overseeing your work.

How are you going to proceed?

When corporate or political interests influence or control news content, it is known as media capture and undermines journalistic independence. Regarding commercially instigated capture, when corporate owners’ or powerful marketers’ interests may take precedence over journalistic ethics, little is still understood. This risk is particularly present in Europe, where a small number of corporations can control a large portion of the media landscape due to high media market concentration.

However, little is known about how these more covert forms of media manipulation affect the process of producing journalism. This relates to citizens’ knowledge of media capture; the difficulties that individual journalists confront and how they manage corporate influences on their reporting

Therefore, the main research question for the PhD thesis is: How do commercially driven media capture efforts affect policy, individual journalists, citizen trust, and journalistic outputs?

Among the methodology’s components are

(1) (Automated) content analysis of corporate takeover stories in the media to map out the systematic effects of commercially driven media capture on journalistic output;

(2) surveys on how the general population feels about news trust and media ownership;

(3) study of stakeholders in mergers including media;

(4) journalistic interviews to determine how corporate media capture affects journalists’ work and editorial independence.

Your background and resume

a research master’s degree in a social scientific discipline relevant to communication science, or anticipate obtaining one in the near future (last date of enrollment: January 31, 2025);
a keen interest in and, ideally, familiarity with political, corporate, and/or journalistic communication subjects;
solid foundation in empirical research techniques and, ideally, data analytic expertise. The project specifically calls for in-depth interviews, surveys, and manual and automated content analysis. It is not necessary to possess expertise in every one of these techniques; the PhD path enables methodological education and advancement. In the motivation letter, please address your methodological skill set specifically.

What can we provide for you?

This project’s final start date is February 1st, 2025 (earlier: if possible). This is a temporary post with a maximum tenure of four years and 38 hours of work. Pakistan iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max PTA Tax Overview for 2024

The appeal of Apple’s iPhone is still undying in Pakistan, even in the face of intense competition from a wide range of Android cellphones. Tech aficionados are enthralled with the iPhone 13 and its more sophisticated sister, the iPhone 13 Pro Max, due to their strong build quality, seamless software interface, and innovative features. Owning these devices is still a major investment, though, because of the tax burden imposed by the government.

The iPhone 13 Series’ Allure

The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display, A15 Bionic CPU, and sophisticated camera systems of Apple’s iPhone 13 series, which debuted in 2021, appeal to both casual consumers and tech enthusiasts. With a larger 6.7-inch display and extra features like ProMotion technology for a smoother user experience, the iPhone 13 Pro Max goes above and beyond. These gadgets’ smooth hardware and software integration, which offers a productive and user-friendly experience, has helped them to stay popular.

Cost of High-End Technology in Pakistan

In Pakistan, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max continue to be in great demand despite their age in the ever changing tech industry. But compared to other areas, the price of these devices in the local market is significantly more. The different tariffs that the Pakistani government imposes on imported smartphones are mostly to blame for this disparity.

(PTA) controls mobile phone imports, making sure that all gadgets are correctly taxed and meet the required requirements. On cellphones that are imported, the government levies a number of taxes, including sales tax, regulatory duty, customs duty, and federal excise duty. Due to these levies, iPhones are now considered luxury goods by many Pakistani customers due to their substantial increase in retail price.

Distribution of the Taxes

Customs Duty: This is the first charge imposed on iPhone imports into Pakistan. It represents a sizeable portion of the device’s worth and serves as the foundation for additional taxes.
Regulatory charge: To further regulate the import of high-end devices, the government levies a regulatory charge on top of the customs duty.
Sales Tax: This tax adds another level of expense to the total cost of the phone plus the previous taxes.
Federal Excise Duty (FED): The imposition of a final tax, the FED, results in a significant overall tax burden.

The Effect of Money on Consumers

The total impact of these levies may cause the price of an iPhone in Pakistan to almost treble. For instance, the base iPhone 13 model may retail for roughly $799 in the US, but in Pakistan, after taxes, the same model may cost as much as $1,500. The iPhone 13 Pro Max can cost up to $2,000 locally, with a starting price of $1,099 in the US.

The Reaction of the Market

In Pakistan, there is a significant market for iPhones despite their expensive cost. These devices are seen as status symbols by many users, and their premium price only makes them more appealing. Furthermore, for many, the longer lifespan, better build quality, and ecosystem integration that come with Apple goods continue to outweigh the greater price.

But the exorbitant costs have also given rise to a robust market for reconditioned iPhones and other ways to get them, such buying from overseas sellers and employing dubious ways to get around various taxes.

In summary

In Pakistan, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max are still highly sought-after gadgets, representing both prestige and technological innovation. Although the government imposes high taxes, which drive up the cost of these gadgets, Pakistan’s Apple fan following is devoted, so long as there is a need for these high-end handsets. Despite the financial difficulties brought on acquiring the high taxes, many people believe that the unmatched experience that an iPhone offers justifies the expensive price tag.

Pakistan loses a shocking match against India to drop a vital Twenty20 match.

Former governor Sindh Muhammad Zubair resigns from the PML-N

On Sunday, former governor Sindh Mohammad Zubair publicly announced his departure from the PML-N, citing “differences too vast” to reconcile.

When questioned by ARY News, Zubair gave his explanation for quitting the party. “I had already decided on it some time ago. It was obviously wiser to break away when the party’s position shifted,” he said.

According to Zubair, it has been “difficult to go along with them” ever since the PML-N started practicing “power politics” and became “intense on remaining in power.”

I’d made it quite apparent. He remarked, “I had made it obvious some time ago.”In my opinion, the differences were too vast — whether it may be the vote of no confidence [against ex-PM Imran Khan], the previous sixteen-month government’s performance or the [general] elections,” Zubair said in response to a question about whether PML-N President Nawaz Sharif or any other senior party leader had attempted to stop him.

Zubair continued by saying he was still undecided about switching to a different political party in the future. “I’m still undecided. He stated, “It’s possible that you’ll learn about it in the coming days.”

Regarding former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s choice to start a political party, Zubair responded, “Yes, he has made that decision, but I haven’t made a decision yet.”

In a separate interview with Geo News, Zubair declared that he fully supported the PML-N when it came to people-centered politics.

“The phrase ‘vote ko izzat do’ was really effective. It implied that we are dependent upon the people and that they would establish a government with their authority,” he stated.

He added that the PTI had given up on politics and was now determined to use any means necessary to seize power, alluding to the vote of no confidence against Imran Khan.

He went on to say that the results of the elections held on February 8 were “clear how many seats the PML-N won.”

In February 2017, he took the oath of office as Sindh’s 32nd governor.

Before being named governor, Zubair served as head of the Privatisation Commission. He is the brother of Asad Umar, a prominent PTI politician.

From July to December 2013, Zubair presided over the Board of Investment as head of the Privatisation Commission.

India is relying on Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj to provide that type of movement in order to secure early wickets through swing and seam.

It’s almost like a praise. Though Rohit thinks the new ball is the only option to increase the threat that Siraj and Arshdeep offer, he still trusts Bumrah to wreak mayhem even with an older one.

But shouldn’t you be going all out with so few runs to defend? But look at him now, in the third over.

India all out for 119

UPDATE: 1:44 PM GMT/7:14 PM IST – Oh no! It’s pouring at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium right now, so the square has been covered, so it’s not the ideal start to our coverage. Unfortunately, the drizzle that began earlier has intensified. Let’s hope that this is only a brief downpour and that the game won’t be delayed. Watch this space for further developments.

However, Pakistan is facing stiff opposition early in the competition following a devastating loss to the USA in Dallas. Their struggles with Powerplay, evident in the first game of the season, underscore the value of seasoned hitters such as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Fakhar Zaman. It is anticipated that the quartet of Mohammad Amir, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, and Shaheen Afridi would step up their pace assault, while Imad Wasim’s passing of his fitness test will provide their spin department a much-needed lift. It is difficult to anticipate which Pakistani government would emerge to oppose India since Pakistanis are notoriously unpredictable. Will Babar Azam and company recover, or will India, who have never lost once to Pakistan in World Cup cricket, maintain their lead? stay tuned.

With a pretty easy victory over Ireland, India began their quest to break the ICC trophy drought on a positive tone. Although Rohit Sharma’s inning was rough, the Indian captain will benefit much from his time spent in the centre of the pitch. Virat Kohli always plays his best against Pakistan, and both he and Rohit will be essential on this difficult pitch. Given that Mohammed Siraj, Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj comprise a strong pace attack, it would be fascinating to see if Kuldeep Yadav, who performed well against Pakistan in the 2023 ODI World Cup, makes the team.

The Cost of Renewable Energy Is Falling. Is There No Power Bill?

Wind turbines and solar panels are inexpensive sources of energy. The issue is that not enough of them exist.

President Jimmy Carter put solar panels on the White House roof more than 40 years ago. Carter cautioned that this technology might turn into “a curiosity, a museum piece, an example of the road not taken” in his speech announcing the panels. Alternatively, he expressed optimism and said that it would be a turning point for the nation, “harnessing the power of the sun to enrich our lives as we move away from our crippling dependence on foreign oil.”

Solar energy has grown significantly in recent years, and the technology is now much more than just a curious curiosity. It’s beginning to deliver on its promise of abundant, affordable, and clean electricity.

Carter’s installation of solar panels on the White House was historic, but the cost of the panels was prohibitive. It served as a metaphor for what it meant. “It wasn’t a business decision,” stated Arvin Ganesan, CEO of energy storage manufacturer Fourth Power. “What’s happened since then is that the cost of renewable energy is now the cheapest way to generate new electrons on the grid.”

Can you save money using solar panels?

Are you curious in how solar energy might affect your house? If you fill out the simple information below, we’ll give you a free estimate of the energy savings right away.

Even while using renewable energy instead of fossil fuels, which worsen global warming, is now more affordable, your power bill can still be rising. What’s going on, and when will things change?

Costs of electricity are still on the rise.
The cost of converting solar energy to electricity is not very high. But when the power bill comes in, it doesn’t feel like inexpensive energy anymore.

The US Bureau of Labour Statistics estimates that between February 2023 and February 2024, average power rates climbed by over 3%.

The issue: There isn’t nearly enough of that inexpensive renewable energy available. According to the US Energy Information Administration, fossil fuels still provide around 60% of the country’s power, with natural gas accounting for 43% of that amount.

This implies that fluctuations in oil prices, which may be impacted by global conflicts, extreme weather, and other instability, might affect most of the grid.

In the meantime, the amount of our power that originates from renewable sources is constantly decreasing. According to a 2022 International Renewable Energy Agency study, the price of energy generated by solar and wind power decreased by at least 13% worldwide.

According to Francesco La Camera, director-general of IRENA, “renewables are by far the cheapest form of power today.” “2022 serves as a sobering reminder of how commercially feasible new renewable energy generation has grown. Renewable energy reduces energy costs, boosts market resilience, and releases economies from the erratic price and import of fossil fuels. This is especially true if the current energy crisis lasts longer.”

Ganesan, whose business is involved in the development of thermal battery technology, attributes our current state to technical advancement.

“The efficiency of solar panels is just significantly better at this point,” he said. “The output of a solar panel is now highly efficient. And what caused that is a lot of projects the government catalyzed over that intervening 20 years to bring down the cost of renewables. So it was government R&D, government intervention that launched this revolution to bring low-cost, high-efficient solar panels to the market. And the same is true for wind.”

Who is going to foot the bill for the energy shift?
Even with the move to more affordable, environmentally friendly, and renewable energy sources, customers continue to have low opinion of the energy system. According to a recent analysis, consumers believe that it is their own responsibility to make changes and that there is a diminishing level of trust in the energy system. This information was provided by global accounting and consulting firm Ernst & Young. Americans believe that the energy business should bear a greater share of the burden of the energy transition.

Just 30% of Americans “feel confident their energy will remain affordable,” according to a study of 3,000 US customers. Additionally, “consumer confidence towards the US energy system” fell to 56.9% from 65.8% in 2022.

Additionally, it revealed that the majority of Americans (68%) think “they are doing everything they can to be sustainable” and that the lead in the transition to cleaner energy should come from local governments (42%), oil and gas firms (38%), and energy providers (65%).

The report’s principal author, Greg Guthridge of EY Global Energy & Resources Customer Experience Transformation Leader, stated that he wasn’t surprised by the results. “There’s this big gap, and that’s exactly what we expected to see,” he stated. “The early adopters moved, and now we need to find a way to activate those who either can’t or won’t move, at the moment, through the energy transition.”

Chris Ventura, executive director of the Consumer Energy Alliance’s Midwest chapter, stated that consumers find it particularly difficult to drive the market since even those who are prepared to transition to cleaner energy aren’t always able to do so. Not everyone can access programmes like Solar for All and community solar, which attempt to increase access to solar electricity beyond rooftop solar systems.

“For the vast majority of people out there, it’s going to take some time,” Ventura stated. “If you adore renewable energy and want to install a solar panel on your roof, you can do so if you own your property, unlike an iPhone, which doesn’t care where you live.

Similar to the respondents to Ernst & Young’s consumer survey, Ganesan stated that in order to address “systemic issues,” less should be expected of individuals and more should be focused on systemic reform.

“I absolutely resonate with the idea that people feel overburdened in general and don’t want this to fall on their shoulders,” he stated. “One out of five people can’t afford to pay their electricity bill in the United States, so to have the solution fall exclusively on their shoulders is not fair, especially when governments and utilities are much better poised to deliver the solutions.”

More than 105,000 non-filer SIM cards have been blocked: FBR.

Blocks on SIM cards, FBR, and tax non-filers
ISLAMABAD: In order to ensure tax compliance, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) froze 105,000 SIM cards belonging to noncompliant taxpayers, according to an ARY News story on Friday.

According to specifics, the FBR verified that 105,000 non-filer SIM cards had been disabled, and it was daily supplying the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) with data pertaining to 5,000 non-filers.

After filing their income tax returns, the non-filers can have their SIM cards back, according to the spokeswoman.

The spokeswoman said, “As of right now, 18,902 SIM cards have been reactivated after the individuals paid their taxes and were added to the list of active taxpayers.”

The FBR spokeswoman had earlier refuted allegations that tax filers’ SIM cards are being blocked, saying that there is no mechanism in place to support such a measure, hence there is no reality to the rumours.

READ: After non-filers submit returns, almost 7000 SIMs are unblocked

It is important to note that the FBR has directed the authorities to disable the SIM cards of over 506,671 identified non-compliant taxpayers nationwide in an income tax general order.

Details reveal that over 506,671 people were recognised by the FBR as qualified to submit income tax returns but not on the FBR Active Tax Payer List.

“These people haven’t paid their taxes, even though they should have,” an FBR representative said.

The FBR has started taking legal action against taxpayers who are not in compliance and has informed tax evaders that their SIM card may be banned at any time if they do not file their taxes.

When taxpayers fail to complete their tax returns, the FBR will disable their SIM card. The FBR has taken strong action against taxpayers who are not meeting their commitments and warned them of the repercussions.

Before his match against Pakistan, India’s Rohit Sharma feels sure that “nothing can beat Virat Kohli’s experience.”

When India plays Pakistan on Sunday, the skipper wants every player to leave their imprint.
In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Group A match against Pakistan, India captain Rohit Sharma urged his squad to perform better and stated that they would not be relying only on one player.

Virat Kohli, who joined the team late last week and began the batting against Ireland on Wednesday, may be the centre of attention. But as they want to keep winning on Sunday, Rohit stated at a news conference that he expects every one of his players to contribute.

“I don’t want to rely on one or two individuals to win us the game,” he stated. “I believe we all eleven need to pitch in. There will undoubtedly be important players who will play important roles for us, but I believe that everyone should contribute in whatever manner they can.

“[Virat] didn’t play the Bangladesh [warm-up] game but he’s had enough training under his belt before this game…the kind of experience that he has, playing all over the world, playing in big tournaments, nothing can beat that.”

“I want everyone to try their hardest to make wise judgements, or at least, to make decent ones. As long as you consider your options and base them on what you observe in front of you, you’re giving yourself the best chance of having success.”

Azam Khan is “replaced” by Imad Wasim as Pakistan “finalises” their team to play India.

Imad is scheduled to play against India after missing the most recent Twenty20 International series against England.
As New York gets ready for today’s fiercest rivalry in cricket, Pakistan’s seasoned all-rounder Imad Wasim will start in lieu of rookie middle-order batsman Azam Khan in the much-awaited T20 World Cup 2024 match against India.

This happened after Azam was benched for no reason during the match against the United States and did not perform well in his previous appearances for the national T20I team.

The 25-year-old cricket star has faced heavy criticism for both his on-field performance and physical health.

Imad, meanwhile, was healthy and would participate in the game in New York, as announced on Saturday by Pakistan’s head coach Gary Kirsten.

Imad is scheduled to play against the bitter rivals, having remained out of action since the T20I series against England last month.

In a news conference, Kirsten stated, “Imad Wasim will be available for the match against India.” “We’re going to fight back.”

According to the reports, Pakistan has chosen to use four fast bowlers, two all-rounders, and a spinner against India in their final playing XI, which does not include Azam.

According to the reports, the playing team consists of batsman Usman Khan, left-handed batsman Fakhar Zaman, captain Babar Azam, wicket-keeper-batter Muhammad Rizwan, Iftikhar Ahmed, and Shadab Khan  Imad, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, Muhammad Amir and Naseem Shah.

Additionally, according to the reports, coach Kirsten and captain Babar have “lost trust in Azam because he was not allowed to play a single ball during the net practice.”

According to the sources, Azam stood by himself when the procedure was carried out.

Though he made his international debut three years ago in July 2021, the son of the famous wicket-keeper Moin Khan is yet to make an impact on the national team in T20I cricket. Despite playing in 14 innings for Pakistan, he was only able to score 88 runs.

Imam backs up Azam Khan.
One day prior, Imam stood up for Azam in the face of abuse on social media, claiming that the harassment prevents a cricket player from giving their best during games.

Imam said that it was impossible to play six games in a row without winning because of Azam’s terrible performance in back-to-back games, to which social media trolls quickly responded negatively.

Cricket supporters voiced their dissatisfaction with the Green Shirts’ performance and the team’s selection on Thursday following the Pakistan-US match.

After the game, the supporters spoke with Geo News and expressed their frustration over the outcome, particularly with Azam’s selection.”We are quite disappointed. Despite having no position on the squad, Azam Khan is nonetheless a member. He was out on the first ball and doesn’t know how to field’, a bystander said.

The middle class in Pakistan would be worst hit by the next budget’s high GST and sharp inflation.

A $8 billion IMF bailout is sought by Pakistan; economists warn of economic woes.
The budget, which is being produced under rigorous criteria set by the IMF, should not provide much respite to Pakistan’s middle class, as the government plans to raise taxes and the price of petrol and electricity in the upcoming fiscal year 2024–25.

In an effort to get a rescue package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) worth up to $8 billion, the government is putting together a federal budget for FY24–25. A deficit of Rs9800 billion would serve as the foundation for the newly planned Rs18,900 billion federal budget.

In order to satisfy the demands of inflation and increased taxes, the public will have to suffer to meet the government expenditures.

Rates for electricity per unit would increase by Rs 7.

Inflation would go much over the stated objective of 12 percent, and the cost of power will increase by Rs5 to Rs7 per unit.

Expert in economic matters Ashfaq Tola stated that given the circumstances under discussion, he anticipated several “difficulties” with the budget.

The possible yearly revenue target of Rs 13,000 billion set forth in the 2018 budget will need the imposition of additional levies.

2.5% of non-filers’ income

It is suggested to raise taxes on the income of contractors, professionals, and athletes in addition to imposing a 2.5 percent income tax on the whole supply chain, from manufacturers to retailers, in order to include non-filers in the tax system. In addition, a strategy to gather 4800 billion rupees is in place.

18% Sales Tax on Numerous Items

According to the 2019 budget, hundreds of products—including imported food, infant formula, and stationery—will be subject to an 18% GST. A proposal has been made to raise the tax on old cars and put thousands of merchants in the tax net, among other industries.

Defence spending plan

In the next fiscal year, it is projected that Rs9700 billion would be used to pay loan interest. The federal PSDP’s budget is expected to rise from Rs1221 billion to Rs1500 billion, with an additional allocation of Rs2100 billion for defence, and an anticipated Rs1300 billion for subsidies to other industries.

BISP will go on.

The poor will receive some respite from BISP, and small government employees will see increases in compensation; but, the middle class will face more challenges.

Dr. Waqar Ahmad, a specialist in economic matters, stated that considering the IMF deal, there is very little chance of a budget relief. The increased taxes that are imposed will cause problems for the middle-class and wealthy populations.

The proposed new budget calls for an 18% Goods and Services Tax to be applied on merchants, tractors, seeds, fertiliser, and other equipment. The goal is to include 60 lakh merchants in the tax system. The goal of these actions is to pressure the IMF into providing a rescue package.

Economist Dr. Abid Silhari stated that while Pakistan would like to carry out changes, political unrest will not happen by accident when the budget is adopted.”After that, your next program’s discussions will begin. When there is no sign of decreasing inflation, the government should be fully focused on maintaining the value of the currency, the speaker stated.
