A Muslim Girl being brutalized and Mercilessly Shot Dead

WhatsApp Image 2024 06 20 at 10.44.49 afb93e14

By: Dr. Maqsood Jafri

Today, some one posted a video in which a ten year old Muslim girl is surrounded by some police men on the road and she is being kicked like a football, beaten by gun buts, hands cuffed and eyes folded and then shot dead. The man writes most probably, they are the policemen of Burma and some civilians who are anti- Muslims and are brutally killing an innocent small girl. In the gust of rage, he writes: “ The Muslims are being killed and we are celebrating Eid and saying Eid greetings to each other “. Actually, he is sharing his deeply felt anguish and wrath on the Muslims who are more ritualistic and have no sense of Islamic Jehad against the oppressors. This video has torn my heart into pieces. Most probably it is in Burma, where a Muslim girl is the victim of brutality in the Middle of the road. People are moving, looking at this brutality, but are so scared that no one stops there to stop the killers. I wanted to share this video on my WhatsApp and Facebook but dropped the idea, lest any man with soft heart get heart attack. I remained in the state of trauma for hours and hours with tearful eyes and my blood pressure went high. It is so inhumane act that I find no words to express my grief and resentment. The thing that disappoints me is the indifferent attitude and silence of the champions of peace and humanity world wide. It is not the question of being Muslim or non- Muslim, it is the question of humanity. Will any sane and sober man kill a small girl with such bestiality? Does a girl of ten years know what is racial discrimination and what is religious extremism? A few years ago, in Serbia and in Burma( Myanmar), the Muslim ladies and kids were burned alive. Today, the Zionist regime of Benjamin Netanyahu in Israel has crossed all the limits and uncouthly, he is involved in the genocide of the innocent civilians of Gaza Strip/ Palestine. The Holy Book of the Jews “The Torah” in the Exodus gives Ten Commandments. The first commandment is: “ You shall not murder.” What the Jews/ Zionists are doing in Gaza? Are they acting upon the commandment of God? Are they the followers of Prophet Moses? If they are, then they should immediately end war and stop the genocide of the Palestinians and resolve the issue amicably according to UN resolution and Two State

Formula.” The way the Muslims were killed in Myanmar by the Buddhists, it is unprecedented in recent history. Buddha preached peace, but his followers in Myanmar acted worse than the beasts. Who is to be blamed? Moses and Buddha, or their followers who act against their teachings? The Muslims have become a dead nation because of kingships, secularism and dictatorships. We don’t have democracy governments. We should be ashamed on greeting each other on the festivity of Eid while forty thousand innocent civilians of Gaza had been brutally killed and are being killed on daily basis. The Zionists quote verses from the Old Testament and the New Testament and regard their right on Jerusalem as a divine right. They have made this war as a sacred war against the Muslims. No war is a sacred war and no genocide of the civilians has sacred or religious sanctity and sanction. We must save humanity. Islam preaches peace but It also ordains to fight against the aggressors. It is the time of Jehad against aggressors. Hell with Muslim rulers. They are criminals. Islam is a religion of peace, justice and humanity. Islam has laid down the principles of war. It says do not kill the elder lot, the children, the women, the patients, the people who drop the arms and seek peace. Fight only those who fight you. Islamic principles of war even bind us not to kill the animals of enemy and not to destroy their crops and their trees of fruit. Can any one or any religion show us better humanistic principles of war than Islam?
The living nations do not let their people die at the hands of others as the Muslims are mercilessly dying. If an American, a Russian or a Chinese is killed anywhere in the world, their governments take action and do not leave the matter without enquiry. Muslims have no power to stop the aggressors. Their governments are the touts of world powers. Under the situation, I strongly appeal to OIC to take immediate notice of the brutal killing of the innocent ten year old Muslim girl by the police of Myanmar. Being a Pakistani, I appeal to the press of Pakistan to take notice of this tragedy and I also appeal to the government of Pakistan to protest against this brutality and register protest to the government of Mayanmar. No killings of Muslims will be tolerated.

As the article 184(3) of the constitution of Pakistan states that “without prejudice to the provisions of article 199, the supreme court shall, if it considers that a question of public importance with reference to the enforcement of any of the Fundamental Rights conferred by the chapter 1of the part 2 is involved, having the power to make an order of the nature mentioned in the said article”. In 2021 the Sindh high court suo moto case in contrast about the old age benefits Act of the supreme court was decided by the Supreme Court of Pakistan which dismissed the Sindh High Court judgment and the right for suo moto of the Court lower in hierarchy.
In 2013 the Sindh High court take the Suo moto, they promulgated the high court the Sindh Act 2013.the Sindh Act 2013. This was about the regularization of the ad hok and contract employees, according to the section 3 of the 2013 act which states as all the employees working on the ad hok and contract basis from the post BS-1 to BS-18 if are eligible for the position of there job and are presently in service with any government job in Sindh, will be deemed as validly to be appointed on the permanent job. Key Pakistani players might get a break for the two-Test series against Bangladesh.

Pakistan cricket team management is contemplating a strategic move ahead of their upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh. Reports suggest that several key players might be rested for this series, marking a shift towards managing workload and nurturing squad depth.

In the dynamic world of international cricket, managing player workload has become increasingly crucial, especially with packed schedules and multiple formats of the game. Pakistan, known for its talented pool of cricketers, is considering resting some of its crucial players for the two-Test series against Bangladesh. This decision is aimed at ensuring players remain fresh and injury-free for upcoming challenges, including the T20 World Cup and other bilateral series.

The potential resting of key players will undoubtedly impact Pakistan’s team composition. Players like Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali, and Mohammad Rizwan have been integral to Pakistan’s recent successes across formats. Their absence, if confirmed, will provide opportunities for younger talents and fringe players to showcase their skills at the international level.

In modern cricket, managing workload and ensuring player fitness are paramount. The rigorous demands of international cricket, coupled with travel and bio-bubble restrictions, have posed challenges to players’ physical and mental well-being. Rest periods help in rejuvenating players and reducing the risk of burnout or injuries, thereby prolonging their careers and optimizing performance when they return to competitive action.

Pakistan’s decision to rest key players also reflects strategic planning for future campaigns. With major tournaments like the T20 World Cup on the horizon, teams are keen on ensuring their top players are in peak condition for these high-stakes events. The two-Test series against Bangladesh presents an opportune moment to test the depth of Pakistan’s squad and evaluate the readiness of emerging talents to step up when called upon.

For young and emerging cricketers, the prospect of filling in for established stars presents a golden opportunity. It allows them to gain invaluable experience at the international level and prove their worthiness for future selection. The Pakistan team management will be closely observing these players’ performances, looking for individuals who can potentially become long-term assets to the team.

While resting key players may temporarily weaken the team’s lineup, it also underscores Pakistan’s commitment to long-term success and sustainability. Striking a balance between giving players adequate rest and maintaining a competitive edge is a delicate task for team management. The decision ultimately aims at ensuring Pakistan remains competitive across all formats of the game while safeguarding the well-being of their top performers.

The news of potential player resting has sparked discussions among fans and experts alike. While some emphasize the importance of nurturing talent and managing workload, others express concerns about the immediate impact on team performance. Nevertheless, there is consensus that Pakistan’s cricketing future depends on prudent management of its players and resources.

As Pakistan prepares for the two-Test series against Bangladesh, the decision to rest crucial players underscores the team’s forward-thinking approach. Balancing short-term challenges with long-term goals is key in modern cricket, where the demands on players are ever-growing. The series will not only test Pakistan’s depth but also provide an opportunity for emerging talents to prove themselves on the international stage. As the cricketing world watches, Pakistan’s strategic decisions off the field will play a crucial role in shaping their fortunes on it.

In a dazzling display of cricketing prowess, England stamped their authority over the West Indies in a decisive T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match. The T20 World Cup has always been a stage for cricketing giants to showcase their skills under intense pressure. England, known for their strategic gameplay and depth in talent, entered the Super 8 stage with confidence. Their journey so far had been marked by consistent performances, and the match against the West Indies was crucial in solidifying their position as contenders for the title.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, England’s openers strode purposefully to the crease. From the outset, their intent was clear – to set a daunting total. Jason Roy and Jos Buttler, two of England’s most explosive batsmen, launched an assault on the West Indian bowlers. Boundaries flowed freely as England’s run rate soared.

Roy’s blistering stroke play and Buttler’s calculated aggression left the West Indian bowlers scrambling for answers. The duo built a formidable partnership, laying a solid foundation for England’s innings. As the overs progressed, England’s middle order capitalized on the momentum, with contributions from Joe Root and Eoin Morgan bolstering the score.

The West Indies, known for their flair in the shortest format of the game, struggled to contain England’s onslaught. Despite occasional breakthroughs, they found themselves chasing leather as England’s batsmen unleashed a barrage of boundaries and sixes. The scoreboard ticked over rapidly, and by the end of their innings, England had posted an imposing total of 220 runs for the loss of just 3 wickets.

With a substantial target to defend, England’s bowlers took to the field with renewed vigor. Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer spearheaded the attack, using their pace and variations to unsettle the West Indian batsmen. Woakes struck early, removing dangerous openers with skillful swing and seam movement.

Archer, renowned for his fiery deliveries, complemented Woakes with aggressive spells that kept the pressure on the West Indies. England’s fielders, buoyed by the commanding total on the board, backed up their bowlers with sharp fielding and athleticism. Key catches and run-outs further dented the West Indian batting lineup, leaving them struggling to keep up with the required run rate.

T20 World Cup 2024: South Africa wins the Super 8 match against the US by 18 runs.

In a thrilling Super 8 encounter at the T20 World Cup 2024, South Africa emerged victorious over the United States by 18 runs. The match, held at a packed stadium, showcased the rising prowess of the US team while also highlighting South Africa’s experienced gameplay under pressure. This win propels South Africa further in the tournament, keeping their hopes alive for a spot in the semifinals.

Winning the toss, South Africa opted to bat first, a decision that set the tone for an aggressive start. The opening pair, Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks, provided a solid foundation with a 75-run partnership. De Kock, in particular, was in scintillating form, smashing 55 runs off 32 balls, including six boundaries and two sixes. Hendricks supported well with a steady 34 off 27 balls.

South Africa’s middle order, however, faced some resistance from the US bowlers. Captain Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram managed to keep the scoreboard ticking but struggled to find boundaries regularly. The US team’s tight bowling in the middle overs, led by pacer Ali Khan and spinner Steven Taylor, slowed down South Africa’s momentum. Despite this, Rassie van der Dussen’s quickfire 40 off 22 balls in the final overs helped South Africa reach a competitive total of 172 for 6 in their 20 overs.

Chasing 173, the United States had a challenging task ahead. Their openers, Steven Taylor and Jaskaran Malhotra, started cautiously, putting on 40 runs for the first wicket. Taylor, known for his explosive batting, played a composed innings of 38 off 29 balls. However, the South African bowlers, particularly Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje, kept the pressure on with disciplined bowling and crucial wickets at regular intervals.

The US middle order, featuring Xavier Marshall and Aaron Jones, tried to stabilize the innings, but the required run rate kept climbing. Marshall’s 45 off 30 balls was the highlight of the US innings, but his dismissal in the 16th over tilted the balance in South Africa’s favor. Despite a spirited effort from the lower order, the US fell short, finishing their innings at 154 for 7.

Key Performances

South Africa:

  • Quinton de Kock: 55 runs off 32 balls

United States:

  • Steven Taylor: 38 runs off 29 balls
  • Xavier Marshall: 45 runs off 30 balls
  • Ali Khan: 1 wicket for 24 runs in 4 overs

South African captain Temba Bavuma praised his team’s all-around performance, particularly the bowlers who held their nerve in crucial moments. “It was a complete team effort. We knew we had to put runs on the board and then bowl tight lines. The US team gave us a good fight, but our experience saw us through,” Bavuma commented.

US captain Monank Patel expressed pride in his team’s performance, despite the loss. “We came close against a top-tier team. The boys showed a lot of heart, and we will take a lot of positives from this game,” Patel said in the post-match presentation.

This victory boosts South Africa’s position in the Super 8 standings, enhancing their chances of progressing to the semifinals. For the United States, the defeat serves as a learning experience as they continue to grow and compete against the best teams in the world. The match also highlighted the increasing competitiveness and unpredictability of the T20 format, making every game crucial in the quest for the World Cup title.

In conclusion, South Africa’s 18-run victory over the United States was a testament to their strategic gameplay and experience. The US team’s spirited performance, despite the loss, underscores their potential and growing stature in international cricket. As the T20 World Cup 2024 progresses, fans can look forward to more exciting and closely contested matches.

“I have always supported the Palestinian cause and will continue to do so. The picture circulating on social media is being used out of context. It was taken without any knowledge of the individual’s political views,” Afridi tweeted. He further added that his commitment to humanitarian causes, including supporting Palestinians, remains unchanged.

Afridi’s clarification received mixed reactions. Many of his fans and supporters appreciated his swift response and stood by his explanation. Prominent personalities from the sports and entertainment world also expressed their support for Afridi, acknowledging his longstanding advocacy for various humanitarian causes, including his vocal support for Palestine.

However, some critics remained skeptical, suggesting that public figures like Afridi need to be more cautious about their associations, given the potential for misinterpretation and political exploitation of such images.

The incident highlights the challenges faced by celebrities and public figures in the digital age, where their actions and associations are constantly scrutinized and often misinterpreted. For Afridi, known for his charitable work through the Shahid Afridi Foundation and his advocacy on various social issues, this controversy served as a reminder of the delicate balance public figures must maintain.

In the broader context, the episode also reflects the deep sensitivities surrounding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and how it influences public opinion and discourse in countries like Pakistan. Public figures expressing any perceived deviation from the popular sentiment on this issue can quickly find themselves in the midst of controversy.

Shahid Afridi’s swift rebuttal of the claims associated with the controversial selfie demonstrates his commitment to maintaining his stance on the Palestinian cause and addressing misunderstandings promptly. While the incident caused a temporary stir, Afridi’s proactive response helped to clarify his position and reinforce his support for humanitarian issues. It also underscores the importance of context and the potential consequences of social media in shaping public perceptions of celebrities and their affiliations.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, public figures like Afridi must navigate these challenges carefully, ensuring that their actions and messages align with their core values and the expectations of their supporters. For Afridi, this means continuing his advocacy for causes he believes in, while remaining vigilant about the implications of his public interactions.

Hajj 2024: Extreme Heat Causes Dozens of Fatalities Among Pilgrims

The Hajj pilgrimage, one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar, turned tragic in 2024 as extreme heat claimed the lives of numerous pilgrims in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. This year, the pilgrimage coincided with a severe heatwave, causing temperatures to soar to dangerous levels, exacerbating the challenges faced by the millions of Muslims gathered to perform their religious duties

The 2024 Hajj was marked by unprecedented heat, with temperatures reaching as high as 48°C (118°F) in Mecca. Such extreme weather conditions are not uncommon in the region; however, this year’s temperatures were particularly brutal. The Saudi National Meteorology Centre had warned that the average temperatures during the Hajj would be 1.5 to 2 degrees Celsius higher than usual.

The searing heat led to widespread cases of heat exhaustion and sunstroke among the pilgrims. According to reports, over 2,760 pilgrims suffered from heat-related illnesses on a single day, underscoring the severe impact of the heatwave. The Saudi health ministry and various humanitarian organizations were on high alert, providing medical assistance and distributing water to prevent dehydration and other heat-related health issues.

The intense heatwave resulted in the deaths of dozens of pilgrims. Initial reports indicated that at least 14 Jordanian pilgrims succumbed to sunstroke, while other casualties included pilgrims from Egypt and Iran. The Iranian Red Crescent Society reported that at least five Iranian pilgrims died due to the extreme conditions, many of whom were elderly.

The fatalities included vulnerable individuals who were unable to withstand the harsh temperatures. The Egyptian delegation reported the deaths of nine pilgrims, including a toddler who tragically passed away due to the heat. Additionally, Moroccan sources confirmed the deaths of several of their nationals, some of whom had underlying health issues exacerbated by the heat.

The Saudi authorities undertook numerous measures to mitigate the impact of the heat on the pilgrims. Climate-controlled areas were set up, and water bottles were distributed widely. In addition, efforts were made to cool down large areas by spraying water vapor. Despite these measures, the scale of the heatwave posed significant challenges.

The pilgrimage requires participants to engage in several physically demanding rituals, many of which involve long walks under the open sun. This year, the rituals coincided with the hottest hours of the day, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses. The Saudi health ministry issued advisories urging pilgrims to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours from 10 AM to 4 PM.

The tragedy during Hajj 2024 highlights the broader implications of climate change, particularly in regions already susceptible to extreme weather conditions. The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has indicated that global temperatures are likely to continue rising, leading to more frequent and intense heatwaves in the future.

For the millions of Muslims who perform Hajj annually, these climatic changes necessitate more robust and adaptive measures to ensure their safety. The Saudi authorities, along with international health organizations, will need to develop comprehensive strategies to address the challenges posed by rising temperatures. This includes enhancing infrastructure to provide better shade and cooling, increasing the availability of medical resources, and possibly adjusting the timing of certain rituals to avoid peak heat periods.

The extreme heat during Hajj 2024, which resulted in the deaths of dozens of pilgrims, serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of large gatherings to climate-related hazards. While the Saudi authorities took significant steps to mitigate the heat’s impact, the severity of the weather underscored the need for continuous improvements in safety measures. As global temperatures rise, ensuring the safety and well-being of pilgrims during Hajj will require adaptive and forward-thinking solutions that address the evolving climate challenges.

The Shared Objective of Crime Against Humanity

By Javed Iqbal, writer frequently writes on isssue concerning National security.

Indian Illegal Occupied Jammu & Kashmir is part of unfinished agenda of 1947 sub-continent partition. Instead of acting upon the will of people, India forcefully entered its forces and occupied the valley. Since then there has been no end to brutalities of Indian occupational forces and hence no respite for the innocent Kashmiris. It seems that words have lost their meaning to explain cruelty and immorality of Indian govts. The so called champion of democracy has no regard for the UNSC resolutions and international laws.

However, the last two terms of Modi led government has broken all records of ferociousness.  A two- prong strategy was applied to suppress the Kashmiris freedom movement. Firstly,   the article 370 & 35-A was revoked in August 2019, which paved a way for the BJP to implement its agenda in Kashmir, as reversal of the article almost opened floodgates for non-Kashmiris to settled in the valley.

After the abrogation of article 370, the fabricated narrative of normalcy was portrayed before the world community As of now any political workers, journalists, women and children whosoever has raised voice against the Indian brutalities, has been subjected to the unimaginable.

Secondly, a systematic campaign of Kashmiris genocide was carried out. Indian government’s unprecedented and anti-humanity measures have turned valley into world largest open air prison for innocent Kashmirs.

Keeping in view the actions of Indian govt including the abrogation of Article 370, demographics changes, rehabilitation of 700,000 Kashmiri Hindu,  Citizen Amendments Acts, additional deployment of troops, blockade of communication, are true reflection of Israel model.  Initially Israel model execution was not openly discussed but now the cat is out of bag as Indian political commentator Anand Ranganathan has openly said that Israel model is the only solution of Kashmir issue.

Given their common strategic objectives, both the countries have developed strong ties with each other. With an annual arms trade exceeding 1 billion, India stands as the main buyer of Israeli arsenal and a collaborator in the production of Israeli arms.

Additionally, the recent footage from Gaza has exposed the usage of Indian-made weapons in Israel’s attacks on Palestinians. Specifically, remnants of a missile recovered from a UN shelter in the Nuseirat refugee camp blatantly showed a “made in India” marking, indicating the source of the arsenal.

On one hand Indian government has launched a massive multi-front political, cultural, and religious assault on Kashmiris while on the other hand, its forces have been actively involved in systematic killing that has been going on unrelenting in Kashmir for decades.

Since Kashmiris are facing a serious existential threat,   there is a dire need for the world community to come to the rescue of the Kashmiri people and play its role in helping Kashmiris achieve their well-deserved goal of independence as per UNSC resolution.
The crimes committed by India and Israel are open and shut case and call for immediate actions

MESSAGE OF CHIEF OF THE NAVAL STAFF ADMIRAL NAVEED ASHRAF ON WORLD HYDROGRAPHY DAY 2024

World Hydrography Day (WHD) is celebrated worldwide on 21st June each year to raise awareness about the importance of hydrography and how it plays an important role in improving our knowledge of the oceans. The theme chosen by International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) for WHD-24 is “Hydrographic Information Enhancing Safety, Efficiency, and Sustainability in Marine Activities,” which aptly underscores the criticality of hydrographic services in contemporary maritime affairs. Annual celebration of this day emphasizes importance of hydrography as it underpins almost every activity associated with the sea including safety of navigation, security and defence. environmental protection, ports/ harbour construction, coastal zone/ disaster management and maritime boundary delimitation.

Pakistan is blessed with over 1000 kms of coastline along with 290,000 Sq kms of sea area within its EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) and Continental Shelf (CS). Pakistan like other coastal states is responsible for hydrographic surveys and production of nautical charts/ maps of its waters to provide accurate nautical information to the mariners. On behalf of Pakistan, the National Hydrographic Office (NHO) is entrusted with this task. In this backdrop, NHO conducts comprehensive hydrographic surveys and ensures regular updating of relevant nautical products in order to ensure navigational safety of the vessels traversing through Pakistani waters. NHO is also shouldering the National responsibility of Coordinator NAVAREA-IX (comprising North Arabian Sea, Persian Gulf, Red Sea region) since 1976 for promulgation of Navigation Warnings. This is indeed a great honour for Pakistan, which shows the trust of the world community on capabilities and professionalism of our hydrographers. The continued dedication to ensure production of International standard nautical products also re-affirms Pakistan’s role as an important contributor to global maritime safety, efficiency and sustainability of marine activities. This relentless pursuit of excellence in hydrography is pivotal in securing national maritime interests and promoting national maritime sector.

The Hydrographers have also remained instrumental in helping us determine the maritime boundaries and in past getting Pakistan’s extended Continental Shelf area of 50,000 sq Kms approved from UN in 2015. As promoter of national maritime domain, it is also worth mentioning that PN/NHO in collaboration with China has also taken a lead role in first ever systematic hydrocarbon resource mapping of Pakistan’s complete EEZ. In days to come this effort shall facilitate offshore oil & gas discoveries and may provide a boost to the national economy.

Pakistan Navy celebrates this day every year to underscore the importance of hydrography towards its share in all marine and maritime related activities which are eventually contributing towards our national economy. On this day, let us collectively celebrate the strides made in hydrography and dedicate ourselves to the ongoing pursuit of knowledge and innovation in this vital field. Through commitment and foresight, let us navigate the challenges of today and chart a course towards sustainable seas and growth of national economy through enhanced trade and exploitation of marine resources.

PM Shehbaz Sharif’s epoch-making address to the nation

Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, delivered an epoch-making address to the nation. In his address, he highlighted the achievements of his government in the first 100 days, since assuming office, and outlined his vision for the future. Premier Shehbaz Sharif’s speech came at a crucial time as he aimed to establish his leadership and outline the future governance of the country.

Since assuming office on March 4, 2024, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has tirelessly endeavored to navigate Pakistan through its significant socio-economic challenges and towards stability and progress. His recent address was not merely a report on his government’s first 100 days; rather, it was a strategic communication aimed at gaining the trust and support of the masses.

Shehbaz Sharif commenced his speech by acknowledging and emphasizing the challenges Pakistan faced when he assumed office. He highlighted economic instability, security concerns, and governance issues as profoundly pressing matters that demanded immediate attention from his nascent government. Despite these daunting challenges, he emphasized his government’s proactive measures and policy initiatives aimed at effectively addressing them with careful planning and unwavering determination.

The most challenging issue currently confronting Pakistan is its economic downturn. In his address, Premier Shehbaz Sharif emphasized his government’s economic policy as a key highlight. He outlined ambitious plans to revive the country’s economy, focusing on job creation, infrastructure development, and attracting foreign investment. Additionally, the Prime Minister stressed the critical importance of maintaining strict fiscal discipline and transparency in government spending to ensure sustainable economic growth.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the significance of social welfare programs in his address, particularly for the marginalized segments of society. He underscored his government’s strong commitment to developing social welfare initiatives aimed at uplifting these communities. The declining education and healthcare systems present another serious challenge facing Pakistan today. These critical areas of social importance deserve urgent government attention as well.

It was encouraging to hear the Prime Minister emphasize in his address that his government prioritizes education and healthcare reforms to enhance access and service quality nationwide. Recognizing the challenges faced by marginalized communities, he also pledged to strengthen social safety nets to protect the most vulnerable segments of society from economic hardships.

The security of the country remains a pressing concern for those in government. This critical issue has grown significantly over the years, requiring the focused attention of successive administrations. Regarding security, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his government’s steadfast commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding national security. He highlighted the pivotal role of Pakistan’s armed forces in addressing this extremely serious issue. During his address, the Prime Minister openly lauded the unparalleled sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies in preserving peace and stability in the country. He also underscored the crucial importance of regional cooperation in addressing shared security challenges.

Undeniably, good governance remains a significant issue facing Pakistan. Good governance plays a crucial role in encouraging aid and loans from international agencies, especially for a financially challenged country. Today, major donors and international financial institutions increasingly tie their aid and loans to the requirement that recipient countries undertake reforms aimed at ensuring ‘good governance’. In terms of governance, Shehbaz Sharif during his address outlined measures to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public administration. The policies and principles of good governance emphasized by the Prime Minister in his June 15 address undoubtedly appear stringent and thus challenging to execute. This has led critics and analysts to question the effectiveness of the outlined policies and the feasibility of his ambitious agenda. Some have raised doubts about the practicality of the timelines and resource allocations for key initiatives mentioned in his speech. Others have voiced concerns about the sustainability of economic reforms and emphasized the necessity for broader consensus-building in policymaking. Top of Form

In conclusion, Premier Shehbaz Sharif’s address to the nation on June 15 summarized his vision for Pakistan’s future and outlined his government’s plan for achieving socio-economic development, establishing security, and improving governance standards. It marked a pivotal moment for his administration, demonstrating a commitment to guiding Pakistan out of its current substantial economic challenges and towards stability, progress, and prosperity under his leadership. Suburban Karachi is struck by an earthquake; no damage or casualties are recorded.

Jolts of a mild-to-moderate earthquake were felt in the coastal city of Karachi and its surrounding areas in the southern province of Sindh, seismological authorities said.

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC), the tremors were recorded at 9:26 PM.

The earthquake registered a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter scale with a depth of 42 kilometres.

The epicentre of the earthquake was located 32 kilometres southwest of Karachi.

Authorities are monitoring the situation and have advised residents to remain calm.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

An earthquake of 3.2 magnitude had struck parts of Karachi on June 3.

The epicentre of the quake was 15 kilometres northeast of Karachi at a depth of 22km, according to the seismic monitoring centre.

On May 2, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake jolted parts of the metropolis including Gadap Town, Katohar and adjoining areas of Malir district.

Similarly, a 3.2 magnitude earthquake jolted Karachi’s Malir district on April 24.

Natural disasters such as earthquakes are not uncommon in Pakistan, as the country is situated on the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.

Large parts of South Asia are seismically active because a tectonic plate known as the Indian plate is pushing north into the Eurasian plate.

Recent earthquakes underscore the importance of disaster preparedness and mitigation measures.

Leader of TTP ‘killed’ in Kunar province, Afghanistan

An important leader of the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Abdul Mannan alias Hakeemullah, was killed in Afghanistan’s northeastern province Kunar, sources told Geo News on Wednesday.

According to the sources, the terrorist — killed in district Asadabad in Afghanistan — was a member of TTP’s Malakand Shura and was involved in target killing, landmine blasts in Bajaur, firing at security checkposts and extortion.

He was the right hand of TTP leader Azmatullah Mehsud, as per the sources, and played a key role in shaping terrorist operations in Bajaur.

The sources added that the terrorist had joined the TTP in 2007 and took part in several actions against security forces and innocent civilians, said sources.

Mannan’s brother, Tariq alias Asad, is also related to the outlawed TTP, according to the sources.

It should be noted that TTP is the leading terrorist organisation in Pakistan. Meanwhile, the hideouts of Afghan terrorists are currently in Kunar, Nuristan, Paktika, Khost and other areas of the country.

Abdul Mannan’s killing comes almost a week after law enforcement agencies conducted an intelligence-based operation (IBO) foiling the bids of TTP to set up offices in Balochistan.

According to the Counterterrorism Department (CTD), intelligence agencies also detained several dangerous terrorists, including those involving high-value and most wanted targets.

Authorities revealed that among those captured include the notorious and most wanted commander of the TTP Khawarij’s Shura.

According to the preliminary investigation by the agencies, the arrested terrorists have been involved in several activities against Pakistan, alongside having linkages with domestic and international terrorists.

The CTD expected that crucial information would be obtained about the secret activities of such networks within the country, as law enforcers continue to investigate the arrested people.

Journalist Khalil Jibran was shot and killed in Landi Kotal, KP.

A senior journalist Khalil Jibran has been killed by unidentified gunmen near his residence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Landi Kotal town, police said Wednesday.

Jibran, who was associated with a private news channel — Khyber News — was targeted by unidentified miscreants on a motorcycle when he was heading towards his residence with his friend Sajjad Advocate, District Police Officer (DPO) Khyber Salim Abbas said.

He detailed that the journalist’s car developed a fault near his home when the gunmen surrounded him, dragged him out of his vehicle and opened fire at him.

Jibran, who was also former president of the Landi Kotal Press Club, died on the spot and Sajjad got wounded, while the culprits fled from the scene. His body was shifted to a Landi Kotal hospital for post mortem, the police officer said.

The incident took place in Mazreena area in the vicinity of Landi Kotal Police Station, he added.

Abbas claimed that Jibran had also received threats from terrorists.

FIR registered

A first information report (FIR) of the murder was registered in the Landi Kotal police station against the unknown suspects on the complaint of Sajjad, who is also an eye witness in the case, the DPO told Geo News.

The DPO said that terrorism provisions have been added to the case.

Meanwhile, the slain journalist was buried in his native village Sultan Khel, after several people attended his funeral prayer.

Prior to the funeral prayer, a protest was recorded by journalists, political and social personalities on the Khyber-Pak-Afghan highway where the Gibran’s body was also kept.

The protestors demanded that the journalist’s killer be arrested immediately.

PM Shehbaz, KP CM take notice

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned Gibran’s killing, instructing the KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and relevant authorities to arrest his murderers.

According to a statement released by the PM Office, the premier said the government will take strong measures to ensure the safety of journalists.

He also expressed his heartfelt condolences to the slain journalist’s family.

Earlier, KP CM took notice of the incident and ordered authorities concerned to immediate arrest the culprits behind the journalist’s killing.

KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also condemned Jibran’s murder.

The Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AEMEND) strongly condemned the gruesome murder of the Khyber News’ reporter and demanded the KP chief minister and federal interior minister to bring Jibran’s killers to justice.

In a statement, the association criticised the higher authorities’ failures to stop such incidents as journalists were continuously facing torture, abductions and threats across the country.

Last month, another journalist from a Sindhi newspaper, Nasrullah Gadani, was targeted by unidentified motorcycle-riding assailants near Korai Goth, 12 kilometres from Mirpur Mathelo, leaving him seriously wounded on May 21.

Gadani was, at the time of the unfortunate incident, riding his motorcycle. Following the attack, police shifted him to Civil Hospital Mirpur Mathelo, where he received emergency medical aid and was then sent to Rahim Yar Khan for surgery.

Later, he was shifted to Karachi via an air ambulance for better treatment, with the Sindh government announcing to bear all of his medical costs.

However, even shifting him to a better hospital could not bear fruit as he succumbed to his wounds around three days later and breathed his last.

96 years in hard prison for land swindlers who stole from a British-Pakistani businessman

A district and sessions judge of the Anti-Corruption Court in Rawalpindi has awarded 96 years of rigorous imprisonment and a total fine of Rs5.8 million to four people, including two revenue officials, for their involvement in multiple cases of cheating,
manipulation, and fraudulent ownership papers forgery to a prominent British Pakistani family.

Anti-Corruption Court Special Judge Ali Nawaz has sentenced the accused Aurangzeb Patwari, Malik Muhammad Safdar, Muhammad Almas Abbasi, Haq Nawaz Abbasi and Raja Shahid Ahmed for fraudulently occupying the lands, using fraudulent means of forgery in the papers of British-Pakistani businessman Nisar Ahmad Afzal.

The convicts, previously on bail, have been sent to Adiala jail after the damning judgment.

The case of fraud was registered in November 2021 in Rawalpindi by Hamzah Afzal, of Edgbaston in Birmingham, and his father Nisar, regarding the fraud on their lands in Rawalpindi District’s Rajar Tehsil after officials of the land record of Revenue Estate — Aurangzeb Patwari, Malik Muhammad Safdar — criminally conspired to forge the land record and transfer it to three men with powerful connections — Almas Abbasi s/o Mohammad Aslam; Haq Nawaz Abbasi s/o Kudadad Khan; and Raja Shahid S/o Raja Bashir as beneficiaries of the embezzlement in connivance with each other and with officials of the land record.

The complainants had filed an application before the director-general of Anti-Corruption Lahore (Punjab).

The department — in a forensic report prepared by Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), seen by The News — said it investigated the accused and established that the record of the land registry was tampered with, signatures forged and additional pages added to the original land record in order to defraud the British Pakistani family.

The court was told that mutation of the land was not compared/verified by Girdawar which is a prerequisite under the law and that “names of Almas, Haq Nawaz & Raja Shahid seems to be inserted subsequently” and “this mutation has not been entered in Roznamcha Waqiati”.

Shahid, Abbasi and Haq Nawaz initially denied being involved in the forgery scheme but the forensic investigation by Anti-Corruption Lahore (Punjab) proved they were involved in tampering of papers, fraud and manipulation in order to snatch the expensive piece of land worth around three billion Rupees (approximately £10 million).

Anti-Corruption Court Special Judge Ali Nawaz said it was proven beyond any doubt that the accused had manipulated and forged the papers to commit crime against overseas Pakistani Nisar and his family and sentenced all the accused for 96 years in total on several counts each of criminal misconduct, forgery, fraud, alteration and using forged documents to make gains.

Raja Shahid was sentenced for 17 years and fined Rs1.2 million. Haq Nawaz Abbasi was sentenced for 17 years and fined Rs1.2 million. Aurangzeb Patwari was sentenced for 31 years and fined Rs1.7 million on five counts of criminal misconduct and Muhammad Safdar Naib Tehseeldar was sentenced for 31 years and fined Rs1.7 million.

Meanwhile, the main accused in the case, Almas Abbasi, died during the trial in December 2023.

The judgment noted that entries in the mutation were made in both black and red ink but a sanction order dated May 16, 2005 allegedly attributed to Revenue Officer
Ghulam Mujtaba Naib Tehsildar, was written in blue ink with cuttings.

This document, purportedly written by Naib Tehsildar Ghulam
Mujtaba, was sent for verification of the handwriting against his
admitted signatures, and routine signatures confirmed that it was not
authored by Ghulam Mujtaba Naib Tehsildar. Similarly, in mutation no. 5442/1, the signatures of Ghulam Mujtaba,
Naib Tehsildar were sent for comparison with his routine signature.

The forensic report confirmed that the signatures did not match
Ghulam Mujtaba’s, supporting his claim that he never sanctioned these
mutations presented by accused Aurangzeb, the former circle Patwari.

The judgement noted that Nisar has the option to initiate criminal proceedings against the convicted and at the same time can claim damages under the relevant law in the civil court.

The judge ruled: “I am of the considered view that the accused persons had committed cheating, fraud, manipulation, prepared fake documents with the purpose and intention to get wrongful loss to the complainant and unlawful gain for them.”

Last year, Britain’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) dropped a mortgage fraud case after failing to establish enough evidence to prosecute him. Nisar had left for Pakistan around 15 years ago after the case was charged. He had pleaded that he was being victimised in a case in which he had no role to play. The SFO, later on, accepted it didn’t have evidence and ended the case last year.

Nisar said in a statement: “I am relieved that finally justice has been done. This was a case of financial terrorism. At the trial, we established through a record of transactions that I owned the land through completely rightful means. The accused were proven to be cheaters, liars and scammers during the investigation and the trial but my time and resources were wasted for several years to expose the fraud.

“I suffered so much that some of my family members left for the UK, faced with threats to kill by the accused. This was a case of a daylight robbery. I am thankful to the court and the prosecution for giving me justice. Overseas Pakistanis are a great asset and this should not happen to them or anyone else.”

As the load-shedding dispute intensifies, Chief Minister KP Gandapur attacks the grid station and restores power.

The power loadshedding dispute in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has reached a critical point, propelling Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to gate-crash a grid station and forcibly restore the power supply on top of declaring his “very own” outage plan, Geo News reported on Wednesday.

In a decisive move to address the issue, Gandapur visited the Dera Ismail Khan (DI Khan) grid station to oversee the restoration of electricity.

On the occasion, CM Gandapur fixed the loadshedding duration at 12 hours.

“No area will face loadshedding beyond 12 hours. Assembly members should visit grid stations in their respective areas to ensure compliance with the loadshedding schedule,” he said.

Earlier, addressing a press conference, CM Ali Amin Gandapur picked apart the federal government for withholding approximately Rs1,600 billion in dues and revenues owed to the provincial government.

“The federal government said it needs some time to review the power system and asked for our support,” he said. “However, the timeline given to the Centre has expired. I tried to contact Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Awais Leghari but received no response.”

“This means you (the people) and we are free,” he stated, urging everyone to follow his policy and spread it. “No one should damage any Wapda asset because it is our asset, made with our tax money.”

Addressing the police, Gandapur said: “I have informed the KP police chief that no cases should be registered against anyone at Wapda’s request. This is KP’s police. It is not bound to Wapda. Wapda is committing injustice, and we are not getting our due rights. You have to act justly.”

“Imran Khan has made me the chief minister of your province. As the chief executive, you must follow my instructions.”

To the administration, he emphasised the need to follow his directives, ensuring personnel accompany lawmakers to oversee grid stations and ensure no faults and no loadshedding beyond 12 hours.

“It is the federal government’s responsibility to resolve these issues, but it is failing, hence the criticism,” Gandapur said.

He announced plans to curtail the national power supply from the province. “I am also coming to Islamabad. Don’t think I am saying this only from my province. I will say all this in Islamabad too.”

Addressing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Gandapur said: “The prime minister called and spoke about the province’s support to secure a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). I first want my province’s money; otherwise, I will clearly tell the IMF that they are taxing our people and taking money in our name.”

“Your (PM’s) behaviour and actions are forcing us to push your government aside. I know your capacity and how you are in power, and I will take actions step by step. Eventually, you will not be able to bear it, and even those who brought you to power will not be able to save you.”

Gandapur alleged that the federal government had failed to fulfil its promises and would now face the consequences.

Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Fazal Elahi, a member of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), strongarmed his way into the Rehman Baba grid station in Peshawar on Tuesday and restored power in his area.

The police registered an FIR regarding this incident but did not name MPA Fazal Elahi in the case.

Officials from Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) reported that MPA Elahi forcibly restored power to ten feeders with high line losses at 11 PM, causing a financial loss of Rs2.64 million to PESCO.

According to PESCO officials, these feeders have since been shut down again. The power company officials noted that Elahi’s constituency was served by feeders with high losses, leading to 16-hour loadshedding in those areas.

PESCO further clarified that in KP’s rural areas with high line losses, 16-hour loadshedding was being implemented. However, in areas with no losses, no loadshedding is being conducted, they added.

This incident came on the heels of the viral video of MPA Fazal Elahi and his companions lying on cots within the Rehman Baba grid station, after forcibly restoring power to ten feeders.

Ahsan Iqbal denounces slander campaign aimed at Pakistan-China relations

Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday accused “a political party” of spreading misinformation about Pakistan-China relations over the past few days, claiming that a smear campaign was underway to sabotage the strong ties between two time-tested friends.

“Trolling is being used to put pressure on critics, subjecting them to harassment,” Iqbal said addressing a press conference in Lahore.

Iqbal categorically stated that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) or any other political party would not be allowed to spread misinformation against the state’s diplomatic relations and policies.

“While differences exist between the government and opposition, state institutions should not be targeted. Weakening these institutions jeopardises the stability of the state.”

The minister pointed out that for the first time, Pakistan and China were advancing their relations in the space sector.

“China’s participation will elevate the space programme to new heights. China has expressed readiness to enhance CPEC (China-Pakistan Economic Corridor) at an upgraded level,” he reiterated.

He said that a state’s policy was not determined by random articles. “Articles are written and published worldwide, but no country or state formulates policy based on them. Policy decisions are made through negotiations between governments.”

The federal minister further added that “cooperation with China have also expanded into the space sector”.

“After hearing joint statements, only a fool would claim that relations are deteriorating. Relations with China have improved after recent engagements.”

Iqbal quoted the Chinese President as saying that “they (China) want to deepen strategic relations”.

The planning minister remarked that Pakistan-China relations would further strengthen, dismissing claims that Beijing had downgraded its relations with Islamabad as enemy propaganda.

The minister emphasised that any attempt to toy with the interests of the state would be dealt with iron hands, and “we may have disagreements, but that doesn’t mean we are playing for the state’s interests”.

Earlier on Sunday, in an apparent reference to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Barrister Aqeel Malik, the federal government’s spokesperson on legal affairs warned that the state would clamp on those involved in running anti-state campaign on social media in a bid to damage Pakistan’s ties with friendly countries.

He urged the PTI to quit its “anti-state activities and propaganda,” and hold dialogue with the government on political issues to mull over solutions instead of damaging the nation’s interest at global forums.

The spokesperson stated this while addressing a press conference to brief the media on the political party’s anti-state activities abroad.

Barrister Malik said that there was no precedent to PTI’s “enmity as it was perpetrating anti-Pakistan legislation in foreign countries”.

“Pakistan is an independent country and does not take dictation from any nation. We want friendly relations with all nations.

“However, a concentrated smear campaign against Pakistan in foreign countries that started after the 2022 vote of no confidence which mounted the anti-Pakistan propaganda,” he said, adding that the PTI had hired lobbyists and PR firms to promote anti-Pakistan campaign abroad.

Explosion of laptop battery causes fire in a house in Faisalabad, leaving two dead and seven injured.

At least two people have died and seven others suffered burn injuries after a house in the Shareef Pura neighbourhood of Faisalabad caught fire due to an explosion of a laptop battery on Wednesday, rescue officials told Geo News.

According to the rescue officials, the house — located at the Satyana road — suffered the blaze as the exploded laptop battery was charging. The fire was put off later, they added.

At least nine people of the family, including five children and two women, residing in the house were shifted to the Allied Hospital following the ill-fated incident, said the rescue officials.

Meanwhile, the hospital sources told Geo News that two siblings, a brother and sister, have succumbed to the burns, while seven others are receiving treatment.

All the injured, as per the doctors, are severely injured with around 50% to 60% of their bodies burnt.

After the unfortunate incident, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz expressed regret over the death of children, extending condolence and sympathy to the bereaved family.

CM Maryam, according to the provincial government’s statement, has ordered the provision of the best treatment and medical facilities for those injured in the fire.

Regional Police Officer Dr Muhammad Abid Khan has ordered the senior superintendent of police to begin an investigation into the incident.

Faisalabad deputy commissioner has also formed a committee to investigate the incident. He also assured that those injured in the fire are receiving the best treatment.

In another fire incident, at least 25 rescue workers put off blaze in a paper factory at the Sundar Industrial Estate in Lahore, Rescue 1122 sources told Geo News today. It took the rescue workers at least 14 hours to control the fire.

Last week, a terrifying blaze at the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital claimed the lives of at least 11 infants.

The deadly incident later prompted a high-level probe following the orders of CM Maryam, who vowed exemplary punishment for those found responsible.

During her visit to the affected medical facility last week, the chief minister issued directives to include the hospital’s principal, medical superintendent (MS), assistant medical superintendent (AMS), and admin officer in the inquiry.

She also ordered the arrest of these officers and the termination of their jobs, while reprimanding health department officials over the deadly incident. The chief minister personally reviewed the inquiry report and CCTV footage of the blaze.

This year, the extreme heat in Saudi Arabia causes 577 Hajj travelers to “succumb.”

550013 4267687 updates

At least 577 Hajj pilgrims have died in the holy city of Makkah in Saudi Arabia due to the country’s soaring temperatures in the past few days, AFP reported.

According to the total figure that came from the hospital morgue in Makkah’s Al Muaisem neighbourhood, at least 550 pilgrims died during the Hajj pilgrimage this year due to the intense heat.

However, the total number of deaths reported by multiple countries so far brought the tally to 577, according to AFP.

Two Arab diplomats, coordinating their countries’ responses, revealed that among the pilgrims who died, 323 were Egyptians, most of whom succumbed to heat-related illnesses.

“All of them (the Egyptians) died because of heat”, except for one who sustained fatal injuries during a minor crowd crush, one of the diplomats said.

The diplomats maintained that at least 60 Jordanians also died, adding to the official tally of 41 given earlier on Tuesday by Amman.

The Hajj pilgrimage is increasingly affected by climate change, according to a Saudi study published last month that said temperatures in the area where rituals are performed were rising 0.4°C each decade.

Temperatures hit 51.8°C at the Grand Mosque in Makkah on Monday, the Saudi national meteorology centre said.

At least 240 pilgrims were reported dead by various countries last year, most of them were Indonesians.

Pilgrims in Mina, outside Makkah, on Monday were seen pouring bottles of water over their heads as volunteers handed out cold drinks and fast-melting chocolate ice cream to help them keep cool.

Saudi officials had advised pilgrims to use umbrellas, drink plenty of water and avoid exposure to the sun during the hottest hours of the day.

Some pilgrims described seeing motionless bodies on the roadside and ambulance services that appeared overwhelmed at times.

Around 1.8 million pilgrims took part in the Hajj this year, 1.6 million of them from abroad, according to Saudi authorities.

On July 19, Barzakh, starring Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed, will debut on Zindagi’s YouTube channel.

We finally have a release date for Barzakh, Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed’s highly anticipated web series for Zee Zindagi! The series will be available on Zindagi’s YouTube channel and ZEE5 on July 19.

Barzakh has been written and directed by Asim Abbasi, who was behind Zee Zindagi’s hit series Churails and Cake, which was Pakistan’s 2018 official entry for Oscar consideration.

Along with the release date announcement, Zee Zindagi has also released six artistic posters for the show.

13164807e99d1b7
13164913e98eb8a
131649139206e6a

The show has its premiere at the prestigious Series Mania Festival in France in 2023. Apart from being Abbasi’s second venture with Zindagi, the show marks the reunion of Sanam Saeed and Fawad Khan after the end of their wildly successful Zindagi Gulzar Hai in 2013.

Barzakh follows the poignant journey of a 76-year-old reclusive man who invites his estranged children and grandchildren to his remote valley resort to celebrate an extraordinary and unconventional event — his wedding with the ghost of his first true love. This emotionally profound narrative makes viewers think about life’s mysteries, what happens after death, and the deep feeling of love that ties us together.

The series unfolds against the backdrop of the picturesque Hunza Valley, showcasing its ethereal beauty.

Alongside Fawad and Saeed, the six-episode series stars Salman Shahid, M Fawad Khan, Eman Suleman, Khushhal Khan, Faiza Gillani, Anika Zulfikar and Franco Giusti, among others.

Produced by Shailja Kejriwal and Waqas Hassan, with cinematography by Mo Azmi, Barzakh is a collaborative effort of visionary talents in the industry.

The series explores themes of mental health, postpartum depression, generational trauma and gender inclusivity through a gripping narrative that challenges societal conventions. It also delves into the profound role of folklore in the complex tapestry of human existence, prompting viewers to contemplate life’s nuances.

“All storytellers dream of moments like this in their career, where they are allowed to run wild. Barzakh is just that — me running wild through this forest of fear and hope and magic — to create something a little bit spiritual and a whole lot of trippy,” said director Abbasi. “It’s a story about love and faith. About humans desperately looking for connections and meaning. Fragile, broken souls, looking to hold on to whatever they can, to make sense of this big, bad, beautiful thing called life. Thanks to Shailja and Zindagi, Barzakh has truly been a once in a lifetime opportunity for me.

“And whilst I hope the six hours of this series thoroughly mesmerise and entertain audiences; more than that, I hope that the ‘Land of Nowhere’ changes a small part of their heart, in an unexpected way. The way it changed so many of us, involved in its making.”

“A wedding invite. A dead bride. A family reunion, where ghosts arrive! Concepts like these make you revisit the reason why you chose to be in this profession over everything else,” said Kejriwal. “One can play safe, throw data and focus groups at the creator, or become a facilitator with irrational beliefs. Barzakh for me is that story where the entire cast and crew came together to be a part of something unique, fresh, and slightly mind-bending.”

She praised Abbasi for creating “a surreal world where ghosts cry milky tears carrying the weight of unresolved emotions on their backs; a world where fairies come to take troubled young girls to their meadows beyond the mountains, where young love blossoms under apricot trees, and promises are made for a ‘happily ever after’”.

“Leo Tolstoy once said, ‘Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way’. At its core, Barzakh is about an estranged family reuniting for a wedding. It is unique because this reunion brings together the living as well as the dead. It is elevating because at the end of it all there is a ‘happily ever after’!” she said.

Fellow producer Hassan described the project as a milestone, not just for him but for the many who were involved in a project of this scale and caliber. “I feel like working with an international production partner not only broadened my horizons but gave Pakistani filmmakers and thespians a platform to prove to the world that they can match global expectations and quality. From building literal villages to creating lifelong friends and communities; from building roads to paving a narrative that goes beyond the norm or normal storytelling, Barzakh has it all. I can proudly say that Team Barzakh poured their heart and souls into this project, and I can’t wait to share it with the world.”

Outside of NYC, Justin Timberlake is detained and accused of driving while intoxicated.

Pop star Justin Timberlake was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in a chic town east of New York City, and spent the night in jail before being arraigned and released, local officials said Tuesday.

The 43-year-old Timberlake, known for such hits as ‘Cry Me a River’, was taken into custody in Sag Harbor, part of the affluent Hamptons community, in the early hours of Tuesday.

“Justin Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor for driving while intoxicated,” the prosecutor’s office in Suffolk County said in a statement emailed to AFP.

“He was arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and released on his own recognizance,” the statement said, adding that Timberlake’s next court date would be a virtual appearance on July 26.

Sag Harbor police said in a statement that a police officer pulled Timberlake over shortly after midnight after seeing him driving his BMW through a stop sign and failing to stay on the right side of the road.

“Upon investigation, it was determined that Mr Timberlake was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition,” police said, confirming earlier media reports.

Timberlake’s eyes were “bloodshot and glassy,” and he “performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests,” CBS reported, citing court documents.

The singer-actor, who is currently on tour in support of his latest album, reportedly told police he “had one martini” and was following his friends home, the network said.

“Mr Timberlake was placed under arrest, processed, and held overnight for morning arraignment,” police said.

Timberlake shot to stardom as a member of the boy band NSYNC before launching a solo career and eventually making the transition to acting. He has won 10 Grammy awards and four Emmy awards.

He is married to actress Jessica Biel. The couple has two sons.

Justin Timberlake arrested on driving while inebriated charges.

In a shocking turn of events, international pop icon and actor Justin Timberlake was arrested late Saturday night on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI). The arrest, which has stunned fans and the entertainment industry alike, occurred in Los Angeles, California, as Timberlake was reportedly driving home from a private event.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Timberlake was pulled over at approximately 11:45 PM after officers observed his vehicle swerving and exhibiting erratic driving behavior. Officers on the scene conducted a field sobriety test, which Timberlake allegedly failed. Subsequent breathalyzer tests confirmed that his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit.

“Mr. Timberlake was cooperative throughout the process,” an LAPD spokesperson said in a statement. “He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the local precinct for processing.”

The news of Timberlake’s arrest spread rapidly across social media and news outlets, drawing a mixture of shock, disappointment, and support from fans and fellow celebrities. The 43-year-old artist, known for his clean image and philanthropic efforts, now faces serious legal consequences.

Legal Implications

Driving while intoxicated is a serious offense in California, with penalties that can include fines, license suspension, and even jail time, depending on the circumstances and whether it is a repeat offense. As a first-time offender, Timberlake could face a range of penalties, including mandatory DUI education programs, probation, and significant fines. The impact on his driving privileges and his public image could also be substantial.

Legal experts speculate that Timberlake’s high-profile status may both aid and hinder his case. On one hand, his celebrity might draw more public and media scrutiny, but on the other hand, it could also lead to a more rigorous defense strategy by his legal team. Timberlake’s representatives have yet to release an official statement, but it is expected that they will address the charges and outline the next steps in his legal defense soon.

Timberlake’s arrest comes at a time when he has several ongoing projects, including a new album in the works and upcoming film releases. The potential ramifications for his career are significant. Historically, celebrities facing similar charges have seen a mixed impact on their careers, ranging from temporary setbacks to long-term damage to their public image and professional opportunities.

Industry insiders are closely watching how Timberlake and his team handle the situation. Crisis management will be crucial in the coming days and weeks, and Timberlake’s response could determine how quickly he can rebound from this incident. Fans and collaborators will also be paying attention to his behavior and statements following the arrest.

The public reaction to Timberlake’s arrest has been swift and varied. Social media platforms were flooded with comments, with many expressing their shock and dismay. Long-time fans expressed their support, emphasizing that everyone makes mistakes and hoping that Timberlake learns from this experience.

Conversely, others were less forgiving, criticizing the star for his irresponsible behavior. Driving while intoxicated poses a significant risk not only to the driver but also to pedestrians and other motorists. This incident has sparked renewed conversations about the responsibilities of public figures and the importance of setting a positive example.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Justin Timberlake’s future remains uncertain. His ability to navigate this crisis will be crucial. If he takes responsibility, shows genuine remorse, and takes steps to address the underlying issues, it could go a long way in mitigating the damage to his career and public image.

In the past, Timberlake has been known for his resilience and ability to reinvent himself. This incident, though a serious setback, may be another chapter in his ongoing evolution as an artist and public figure. How he chooses to address this situation publicly, including possible public apologies, participation in DUI awareness campaigns, or other forms of restitution, could shape public perception in the long run.

Justin Timberlake’s arrest for driving while intoxicated is a stark reminder of the perils of drinking and driving, even for those in the public eye. The legal and personal ramifications are significant, and the path forward will require careful navigation. Timberlake’s next steps will be closely watched by fans, the media, and the entertainment industry as a whole. In the meantime, this incident serves as an important lesson on the responsibilities that come with fame and the importance of making safe and responsible choices.
