India news site’s raid on journalists’ homes fuels concerns about press freedom.

As part of an investigation using a broad anti-terror law, police in New Delhi raided the residences of renowned journalists connected to a left-leaning news organisation known for its scrutiny of the Indian government. Media organisations criticised the action as an assault on press freedoms.

Following the raid on Tuesday, Delhi police released a brief statement stating that 46 people had been interrogated and that digital devices and papers had been taken for inspection.

Those questioned include journalists, editors, and contributors with ties to NewsClick, a free-standing news source well recognised for its scathing criticism of the administration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Prabir Purkayastha, the outlet’s founder and editor, and a coworker, Amit Chakravarty, were reportedly detained by police, and a UAPA investigation — an anti-terror law that critics have called “draconian” and that makes it difficult to get bail — is currently underway.

Some of those detained for interrogation posted updates about the raids on Twitter, now called X, as they happened.

Bhasha Singh, a writer and activist, posted one final message before having her devices taken: “Finally last tweet from this phone. My phone has been seized by Delhi police.

Journalist Abhisar Sharma reported that Delhi police were at his residence at 8:05 a.m. local time and were about to seize his equipment.

A few hours later, he added: “I am back home after a day-long interrogation by Delhi Special Cell. There will be a response to every query. Nothing to fear. And I’ll continue to question those in positions of authority, especially those who shudder at being questioned simply.

Paranjoy Guha Thakurta, a journalist and consultant for NewsClick, said police questioned him about whether he had covered the 2020 Delhi riots, a series of violent intercommunal clashes that left dozens dead, and the legendary yearlong farmer’s protest movement against contentious agricultural laws.

At 6:30 in the morning, nine police officers arrived at his Gurugram home, he said.

Independent media in India has expressed shock and fury over the raids, claiming that Modi and his right-wing Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are tightening their control over press freedom.

The BJP has been contacted by CNN for comment.

Anurag Thakur, the minister of information and broadcast, stated that he did not need to defend the police action during a speech on Tuesday in Odisha.

“Agencies are free to carry out investigations against them under set guidelines if anyone has committed anything wrong,” he said.

A’successful’ shoulder procedure is performed on Naseem Shah.

The shoulder ailment that prevented Pakistani bowler Naseem Shah from competing in the ICC World Cup 2023, which will start in India, was successfully treated surgically.

His manager, Moghees Sheikh, provided an update regarding Shah using X, formerly known as Twitter, and mentioned that the fast bowler is feeling good following the minor shoulder procedure.

“Please keep him in mind while you pray. Inshallah, he will shortly take action, he continued in his post.

After the procedure, the young pacer was instructed to take it easy and go through rehabilitation for four to six weeks before returning to the bowling crease.

Unfortunately, Shah’s injury will probably keep him out of action for at least three to four months.

On the reserve day scheduled for that game, the bowler left the field in the 46th over of Pakistan’s second game against India at the Asia Cup 2023. The PCB quickly issued a press release announcing that the right-armer had been disqualified from the remainder of the competition.

Shah sustained a muscle damage immediately behind his bowling shoulder, which is unrelated to any prior shoulder ailments.

Shah was replaced in Pakistan’s World Cup squad by pacer Hasan Ali, who last competed for Pakistan in an ODI match in 2022 against the West Indies at Multan.

Pakistan’s 2023 World Cup team
Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Abdullah Shafique, Saud Shakeel, Imam-ul-Haq, Iftikhar Ahmed, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Usama Mir, Haris Rauf, M Wasim Jr., Salman Ali Agha, and Babar Azam (c).

Travelling reserves: Zaman Khan, Abrar Ahmed, and Muhammad Haris

From October 5 to November 19, 10 sites will host the ICC World Cup 2023, which will feature 10 nations competing for the coveted trophy. The tournament’s opening match and the championship game will both be played at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.

All teams will compete against one another for a total of 45 league matches during the round-robin style Cricket World Cup.

The top four teams will advance to the semifinals, which will take place on November 15 in Mumbai and on November 16 in Kolkata. There will be reserve days for the semifinals and championship.

Taxes on the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro Max in Pakistan in 2023

Apple, a leading manufacturer of high-end products, has long drawn criticism for its exorbitantly expensive phones. These phones in Pakistan become more expensive than ever following high taxes, despite rising online pricing.

The strong design, user-friendly interface, and plenty of services connected to its app store are the reasons why iPhones are the market leader in the worldwide mobile phone business.

In Pakistan, demand for Apple products is still on the rise and is very high. Even earlier generations of the iPhone, such as the iPhone 12 and its Pro variant, are increasingly becoming more expensive as costs for newer models soar.

Customs Duty, Regulatory Duty, Sales Tax, and Federal Excise Duty are just a few of the taxes that Pakistani authorities have imposed on imported mobile phones. These costs vary depending on the model and features of the iPhone.

Nipah virus: warning from the Sindh government

KARACHI: The hazardous ‘Nipah’ virus, which has infected multiple people in India, may be spreading, according to a warning from the Sindh Health Department.

In a letter distributed by Sindh’s director of health to hospitals around the state, the medical superintendents, directors, and livestock departments were admonished to use prudence.

The Nipah virus is known to spread swiftly from animals to humans and vice versa. The virus’s symptoms, which can include fever, headaches, body aches, and in severe cases, coma, are also listed in the warning.

When pig farmers in Malaysia and Singapore began to become ill, the Nipah virus was first discovered. Through direct contact with the body fluids of infected bats and pigs, it can infect humans. There have been some reported cases of transmission among humans.

Nipah is thought to have been present in flying foxes for a very long time, and scientists worry that bats will eventually produce a modified strain that is very contagious. The infection has a death rate of around 70% and no vaccinations exist to treat or prevent it. The standard course of treatment is to offer supportive care.

Following flash floods in northern Sikkim state, more than 20 Indian soldiers are still missing.

NEARBY DELHI — Following flash floods in the northern province of Sikkim caused by a cloudburst on Wednesday, the Indian army reported that 23 personnel were missing.

The Teesta River in Lachen Valley experienced flooding, according to the statement, which also mentioned that some army camps and vehicles were submerged by watery sludge and that search attempts were in progress. According to the army, the water levels increased as a result of water discharged from a nearby dam.

The Press Trust of India news agency was informed by defence officials that 80 local residents have already been safely evacuated. According to the organisation, early on Wednesday’s floods also destroyed a bridge over the Teesta River.

When more than 10 centimetres (3.9 inches) of rain falls in a 10-square-kilometer (3.8-square-mile) area in less than an hour, it is referred to as a cloudburst. They could result in severe flooding and landslides that would harm thousands of people.

This season’s monsoon rains were particularly strong in the steep Himalayan region where Sikkim is situated. In the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh state, flash floods and landslides claimed the lives of up to 50 people in August, while in northern India, record rainfall in July resulted in the deaths of over 100 people over the course of two weeks due to flooded highways and collapsed homes.

During the monsoon season, which lasts from June to September, landslides and floods frequently wreak disaster in India’s Himalayan area. Scientists claim that as glaciers there melt due to global warming, they are occurring more frequently.

In Uttarakhand, flash floods in February 2021 claimed the lives of about 200 people and destroyed hundreds of homes.

China plans to accomplish a feat that has never been done before with its upcoming lunar mission. It has additional space-related goals.

China plans to accomplish a feat that has never been done before with its upcoming lunar mission. It has additional space-related goals.

CNN in Hong Kong —

As Beijing intensifies its ambitious goal to send men to the moon this decade and create an international lunar research base, officials in Beijing said that China’s lunar mission to bring back the first samples ever obtained from the moon’s far side is on pace for next year.

China’s National Space Administration (CNSA) said in a statement last week that preparations for the upcoming mission, known as Chang’e-6, were going smoothly and that the mission’s relay satellite would be deployed in the first half of 2019.

Chinese officials on Monday urged greater international cooperation for the unmanned lunar trip during the International Astronautical Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan. This week, CNSA also looked ahead to its Chang’e-8 mission scheduled for 2028.

According to a supporting paper posted on the CNSA website, the Chinese expedition in 2028 would welcome combined “mission-level” initiatives with other nations and international organisations.

According to the text, this means China and international partners might collaborate on spacecraft launch and orbit operations, spacecraft-to-spacecraft “interactions,” and cooperative lunar surface exploration.

According to the agency’s website, the spacecraft would also have room for 200 kilogrammes (440 pounds) of foreign science payloads. As a result, foreign partners might be able to perform lunar research by “piggybacking” off the mission, according to Chinese state media.

As part of Beijing’s larger effort to become a major space power, China anticipates that both the current missions and the Chang’e-7, which is scheduled for launch in 2026, will yield important data for building a permanent international research station on the lunar south pole by 2040.

As a result of those efforts, China will be the second nation to land a manned mission on the moon by 2030, having become the first to send a rover to the moon’s far side in 2019. It also finished building its orbital Tiangong space station last year.

Although just a small number of nations are said to have joined aboard its intended lunar research station so far, that plan also includes strengthening Beijing’s international ties through space collaboration. According to Chinese official media, they are South Africa, Venezuela, and Russia.

As many nations consider the potential scientific gain, national pride, access to resources, and opportunities for additional deep space exploration that successful moon trips could bring, China is not the only one increasing its space programme and lunar ambitions.

India became the fourth country to successfully land a spacecraft on the moon last month with its Chandrayaan-3 ship, which was the closest spacecraft to the moon’s south pole ever.

In the same week, Russia’s Luna 25 spacecraft collided with the moon’s surface, ending the country’s first lunar mission in decades.

The US has also increased the scope of its lunar programme, with NASA eyeing the lunar south pole and the Artemis programme aiming to send US astronauts back to the moon in 2025 to establish a base camp for research.

Similar to China, the US has been enlisting foreign allies; more than two dozen nations have agreed to abide by the Artemis Accords standards for “peaceful exploration of deep space.” China is not currently a signatory.

future lunar expeditions from China
The Chang’e-6 mission from Beijing will advance knowledge of the moon’s far side by collecting samples after 10 previous journeys to the side facing Earth, according to a statement released by the CSNA on Friday, which also happened to be the Mid-Autumn Festival, a Chinese national holiday dedicated to the moon.

According to Hu Hao, a senior official working on the Chang’e-6 mission, “Such samples will enable scientists to advance their studies about the far side… (and) analyse the samples’ composition to broaden knowledge about the moon.”

Hu was quoted as adding that the spacecraft is planned to land in the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the far side and gather dust and rock samples there, referring to a significant lunar landform of high scientific significance.

However, unlike the near side, which is characterised by enormous lunar maria and darker traces of past lava flows, the far side of the moon, which is invisible from Earth, is not covered in craters. This discrepancy baffles astronomers.

According to the CNSA, the Chang’e-6 spacecraft will also carry payloads and satellites from four international partners.

It listed several of them, including a French-made radon detector, a negative ion detector from the European Space Agency, an Italian laser corner reflector for calibrating radar systems, and Pakistan’s CubeSat, a tiny square satellite.

According to officials, the Chang’e-7 mission, which will hunt for lunar resources near the moon’s south pole in 2026, and Chang’e-8, which may examine how to use lunar minerals, will come after the current mission.

Since 2007, China has launched five robotic explorers. In December 2020, Chang’e-5, its final mission, touched down on the moon and sent back samples of lunar rocks and soil.

Shadab Khan makes fun of Pakistani captain by saying, “Babar Azam will carry drinks, I am that type of captain.”

Following a lacklustre performance in the Asia Cup 2023, which was played last month, Pakistan, captained by Babar Azam, will attempt to refocus in the forthcoming World Cup, which begins on Thursday. Despite being ranked number one at the time, the Pakistani team suffered crushing losses to India and Sri Lanka.

Leading members of the team Shaheen Shah Afridi and the skipper himself spoke on the subject. Shaheen tweeted a photo of him and Babar along with the word “family” in an effort to disprove the reports. Babar expressed a similar sentiment during the news conference held prior to his departure for India to attend the World Cup.

The 50MP camera on the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is an enhancement over the model year’s top chipset.

3

The 50MP camera on the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE is an enhancement over the model year’s top chipset.

Is the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE truly that much better than the S21 FE from last year, even though Samsung has advanced two generations in just one year? No and yes. The CPU and camera have seen some significant improvements, but overall, it still falls short of the real S23 devices (or even something like the S22+).

Addressing the chipset, the proverbial “elephant in the room.” Typically reserved, Samsung simply states “Advanced 4nm Processing” in response to questions. We are aware of the either-or nature of the scenario; depending on where you live, you will either receive the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or the Exynos 2200. Although not as remarkable as the 2023 phones’ “for Galaxy” CPUs, the Snapdragon 888/Exynos 2100 of the S21 FE is still a significant improvement.

This year’s base configuration replaces the previous 6GB option with 8GB of RAM. More than 8GB is not allowed, although the S23 and S23+ have the same restriction. No extension slot, 128GB or 256GB of storage are available.

After we’ve covered it, we should talk about the updated main camera, which now has a 50MP sensor instead of the previous 12MP. The S23 FE still includes lower resolution ultrawide (10MP, 123°) and telephoto (8MP, 3x) cameras, so this does not imply that it is on par with the S23 or even the S22 phones. Additionally, the selfie camera’s resolution mysteriously drops to 10MP following two generations of 32MP sensors in the FE devices.

As anticipated, the display is a flat 6.4″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with FHD+ resolution and a refresh rate of 60-120Hz.

The phone weighs 209g and has dimensions of 158 x 76.5 x 8.2mm. With dimensions of 155.7 x 74.5 x 7.9mm and a weight of 177g, it is bigger than the S21 FE. Pre-consumer aluminium, glass, and post-consumer plastic (obtained from used fishing nets, water barrels, and PET bottles) make up the phone’s body and interior components.

The Galaxy S23 FE follows other premium Samsung devices in terms of lifetime, receiving 4 OS updates and 5 years’ worth of security updates (note: the phone ships with Android 13/One UI 5.1 out of the box). The phone has an IP68 rating for water and dust protection, and you can sign up for Samsung Care+ for less expensive accidental damage repairs.

Despite being larger than its predecessor, the battery capacity of this new model stays at 4,500mAh, and cable charging still stays at 25W (0-50% is completed in 30 minutes). Additionally, wireless charging is supported.

Long before Canada’s murder allegation, Indian spies invaded the West.

4033306 1676212719

Long before Canada’s murder allegation, Indian spies invaded the West.

Reuters, NEW DELHI, Oct. 4 – The foreign intelligence service of India is a feared adversary in the region; Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal have all accused it of interfering in politics and working with violent, illegal organisations.

Now, the covert Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) in Delhi has been under the spotlight due to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claim made last month that Indian government agents were involved in the June shooting of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in a suburb of Vancouver.

India vehemently refuted the accusations and requested that Canada, which had already removed RAW’s station chief, provide proof. Ottawa claimed to have given allies access to the proof but will not make it available to the general public.

Four retired and two active Indian security and intelligence officials who are aware with RAW told Reuters that the organisation was inspired to take on a more assertive international role in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai bombings, which claimed 166 lives. The officials talked under the condition of anonymity in order to talk about private issues.

Four insiders claimed that after 2008, RAW gradually widened its influence in Western countries. A current official attributed RAW’s desire to strengthen its influence in the West to India’s inability to obtain the extradition of a U.S. citizen found guilty of taking part in the Mumbai attack.

According to one current official and one former official, RAW is still heavily reliant on human intelligence for its operations in the West even if it has advanced signal and technical intelligence capabilities in its near neighbourhood.

According to five of the officials, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strengthened India’s defence capabilities and cultivated a strongman image, which has given RAW and other parts of the country’s national security apparatus more confidence.

An inquiry for comment for this story was not answered by Modi’s office.

The only currently employed member of the agency’s public family, RAW Chief Ravi Sinha, did not respond to requests for comment. Ajit Doval, the influential national security adviser who reports to Modi’s office through Sinha, also did not respond to a request for comment.

All six of the officials refuted claims that RAW carries out targeted assassinations, pointing out that such activities are not part of the agency’s remit.

Concerns about RAW being more closely watched internationally have also been raised in the wake of the Vancouver event, according to Indian intelligence officers and analysts.

According to Dheeraj Paramesha Chaya, a specialist in Indian intelligence at Britain’s Hull University, “the recent developments have undoubtedly increased global curiosity about RAW.” He asserted that closer understanding of Delhi’s security concerns might result from more Western scrutiny of RAW’s operations.

As tensions with China have increased, the West has increased its military and intelligence collaboration with Delhi. In 2020, Washington agreed to share classified satellite and mapping data with India.

According to one of the officials, Canada’s claim may make it more difficult for Western nations to have faith in RAW in the near future.

Since Trudeau made his accusations public, there has been a diplomatic impasse between Ottawa and Delhi. India has asked Ottawa to scale back its diplomatic representation and halted the issuing of new visas to Canadians.

Bushra Bibi moves IHC to safeguard Imran

ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) dismissed the Registrar’s Office’s objections and scheduled the hearing of Bushra Bibi’s petition for security and protection for her husband, Imran Khan, in Adiala Jail, for tomorrow (Thursday).

Aamer Farooq, Chief Justice of the IHC, heard the petition and the Registrar’s Office’s objections. Bushra Bibi’s attorney, Latif Khosa Advocate, stated in court that Bushra Bibi, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was in danger of dying in custody.

The petition was fixed for hearing after the court overruled the Registrar’s Office’s objections. Additionally, the court agreed to Khosa’s request for the petition to be heard on Thursday, October 5.

Bushra detailed the petition’s concerns in the

Bushra stated her worry in the petition that the food her husband was eating in jail might be contaminated. She claimed that Imran was denied access to the home-cooked dinner, which used to be available to detainees awaiting trial.

She argued that any tainted food might endanger Imran’s life.

Additionally, according to Bushra, the PTI chairman was not receiving the facilities to which he was entitled under the Jail Manual. She later clarified that articles 9 and 14 of the Constitution were broken by “the inhumane treatment” given to her husband while he was imprisoned.

On September 26, Imran was transferred to the Adiala Jail by the IHC.

On September 26, Imran was transferred to the Adiala Jail by the IHC.

The other night, the police deployed elite commandos and added security pickets to the area surrounding the Adiala Jail to ensure maximum protection.

Imran could be “poisoned” in Adiala Jail, according to Read Bushra.

Later, Imran’s attorney Naeem Haider Panjutha revealed to media that Bushra had met the former prime minister on Tuesday at Adiala Jail and warned that Imran’s life was in danger.

“I worry Imran could progressively become food poisoned… He is being physically restrained and subjected to mental torture, the man claimed.

Panjutha claimed to have heard yesterday night that the PTI leader had been transferred to a lower-class cell. He asserted that these were brand-new techniques for “breaking” Imran: “Security personnel have been stationed outside the cell and mobile phones have been taken for them.”

Imran was detained in the Attock District Jail following his Toshakhana case conviction before being transferred to the Adiala Jail.

The IHC suspended his sentence last month, but he was caught in the cypher case shortly after. Inside the Attock jail, the cypher case trial was still in progress.

On Wednesday (today), the case would now be handled by the special court within the Adiala Jail. Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain of the special court had earlier sent a letter to the law ministry asking for its opinion on the trial that was taking on within the prison.

The judge stated that the matter might be handled in a special court under the Official Secrets Act if there were no security concerns over Imran’s protection. A request by the FIA for an in-camera hearing of the case would also be considered by the court.

Separately, the PTI chairman appealed the accountability court’s decision to deny his bail requests in the Toshakhana and £190 million corruption cases on August 10.

He claimed that his absence from court caused his bail requests to be denied. He said that because he was in custody on that day, he was unable to attend in court. He asked the court to reverse the accountability court’s rulings from August 10 and grant him temporary bail while his motions were being considered.

Asian Games are off limits for Arshad Nadeem because of a knee ailment

On Wednesday night, Arshad was supposed to compete in the men’s javelin throw finals.

A statement claimed to Pakistan’s Chef de Mission, released by POA, said that Arshad complained of soreness in his knees after first session in Hangzhou.

According to the statement, “Mr. Arshad Nadeem revealed and complained to Dr. Asad Abbas who was accompanying him that he has been dealing with persistent pain for several months, a concern that has become particularly pressing in the wake of the World Athletics Championship, after arrival at Hangzhou at the first training session on September 27, 2023.

“On October 2nd, he once more complained of right knee soreness and stated that he wanted to get evaluated to see how it might affect his ability to compete in the javelin throw event. A thorough examination was advised by the Pakistani contingent’s chief medical officer.

At a nearby hospital in Hangzhou, Arshad Nadeem got a complete medical evaluation, which included a non-invasive test called an MRI. His long-standing ailment was discovered by the MRI.

The statement further stated that Arshad opted not to compete in the Asian Games after consulting medical professionals in order to avoid any undesirable circumstances that would interfere with his training and participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The UN on Pakistan’s proposal to deport Afghan refugees: “Return must be voluntary

The United Nations (UN) stated on Tuesday that refugees living in Pakistan should be allowed to leave the country willingly and that no pressure should be put on them, hours after the caretaker administration decided to deport more than 1 million “illegal immigrants” after the deadline of November 1.

To assure protection for individuals seeking safety, any refugee return must be voluntary and free of any compulsion, according to Qaisar Khan Afridi, a spokesman for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

After learning that 14 of the 24 suicide bombings that have taken place in the nation this year were carried out by Afghan nationals, the interim government earlier in the day ordered all illegal immigrants, including 1.73 million Afghans, to leave the country immediately or risk expulsion.

The UN on Pakistan’s proposal to deport Afghan refugees: “Return must be voluntary

Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti stated, “We have given them a November 1 deadline,” stating that beyond that date, all illegal immigrants will either be forced to leave on their own volition or be deported.

According to Bugti, 4.4 million Afghan refugees are in Pakistan, including around 1.73 million Afghan citizens who lack the necessary documentation to remain.

The UNHCR representative described press allegations of a plan to deport Afghans without documentation as “disconcerting” and stated that the organization was seeking clarification from “our government partners”.

Afridi requested Pakistan to develop a strategy to prevent the deportation of any Afghan people under international protection, saying that Islamabad has “generously hosted refugees for more than 40 years.”

He continued, “We must also keep in mind that persons escaping persecution frequently lack the required papers and travel authorizations.

Afridi added that the UNHCR is prepared to assist Pakistan in creating a system to oversee and record those on its soil who require international protection and to address “particular vulnerabilities.”

“Pakistan has long been a compassionate host to refugees. Although this function has received widespread recognition, more must be done to equal its generosity, he continued.

Since the Soviet invasion of Kabul in 1979, Islamabad has experienced the highest migration of Afghan refugees.

The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups have claimed they train members on Afghan soil and plot operations inside Pakistan, according to Pakistan.

Authorities in Lahore demand a list of illegal housing projects for an electricity investigation

LAHORE: The Lahore divisional administration has adopted a strict stance against the unauthorized supply of electricity to unapproved housing projects within the city’s subdivisions.

A list of illegal housing schemes should be provided to the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco), according to a recent directive from the administration to the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) and other pertinent bodies, including defunct local municipal administrations.

Authorities in Lahore demand a list of illegal housing projects for an electricity investigation

The Lesco team, led by the chief engineer, informed the Lahore commissioner that these illegal housing schemes had managed to secure power connections under the guise of operating tube wells and for purposes unrelated to supplying electricity to consumers during a meeting between senior Lesco officials and the commissioner.

We will shortly give you a list of illegal housing developments, said Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa.

You must then look into which schemes were given electricity connections and the justifications given by the responsible officers after getting the list.

Officials from Lesco are responsible for finding these linkages and delivering a thorough report to the divisional administration within two weeks.

The report will make it easier to start the process of cutting off the power to these unauthorized housing developments.

The District Administration and LDA controlled regions will be subject to an audit of electricity connections to unlawful housing societies, it was also decided during the meeting.

Randhawa praised Lesco for improving its standard operating procedures for handling citizen and general consumer concerns. He also asked for a report on certificates of no objection given to illegal organisations.

Additionally, the commissioner reaffirmed that all of the division’s efforts to stop electricity theft would continue.

In the meantime, 11,578 connections implicated in electricity theft have been found by Lesco management in five districts: Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, and Okara.

The company has reported 11,478 electrical thieves, and 10,505 incidents have been reported to the appropriate police stations. Additionally, 3,484 accused people have been detained.

These energy thieves are accused of stealing approximately Rs1.096 billion in losses totaling 24.250 million detection units.

Lesco’s anti-power theft effort is still active; during the most recent inspection, 588 connections were discovered to be involved in electricity theft, leading to the filing of FIRs against 585 electrical thieves, the registration of 258 FIRs, and the arrest of 122 suspects.

This film is notable for being the 17th to be released under the AKP banner.

Following their collaboration on the cult favorite “Andaz Apna Apna,” Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Santoshi will once more work together for “Lahore, 1947.”

Aamir Khan produces, Rajkumar Santoshi directs, and Sunny Deol stars in the masterpiece of cinema Lahore, 1947.

Rajkumar Santoshi and Sunny Deol’s collaboration resulted in three box office hits, including “Ghayal,” “Damini,” and “Ghatak.”

Sunny Deol’s recent box office behemoth “Gadar 2” smashed the unprecedented five billion Indian rupee milestone.

The historical connection between Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan also sets this claim apart.

These two storied movie characters have already engaged in storied box office battles.

In 1990, when Sunny Deol’s “Ghayal” and Aamir Khan’s “Dil” both had simultaneous releases, there was the first notable controversy.

The greatest box office conflict in Indian film history was then fought between “Lagaan” and “Gadar” in 2001, and “Raja Hindustani” vs. “Ghatak” in 1996.

These two legendary filmmakers are now working together on a single project for the first time.

Rupee gains Rs1.04 as it continues to rise against the US dollar

ISLAMABAD:
In interbank trading on Tuesday, the Pakistani rupee gained Rs.1.04 against the US dollar, marking its 20th consecutive recovery session. It ended the day at Rs.285.72, down from the previous day’s closing of Rs.286.76.

The purchasing and selling values of the dollar on the open market were Rs283.5 and Rs286.3, respectively, according to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP).

Rupee gains Rs1.04 as it continues to rise against the US dollar

According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the price of the Euro dropped by Rs3.34 to settle at Rs299.56 vs the previous day’s closing of Rs302.90.

A decline of Rs4.08 was seen in the exchange rate of the British Pound, which was sold at Rs345.42 as opposed to the last closing of Rs349.50, while the Japanese Yen decreased by 01 paisa to end at Rs1.90.

The exchange rates for the Saudi riyal and the Emirates dirham fell by 29 and 28 paisa, respectively, to settle at Rs 77.78 and Rs 76.17.

An rise in the supply of dollars might be blamed for the rupee’s ongoing gain. Recent trade data that show an increase in export revenues and a large decrease in import payments in September compared to August further reinforces this.

According to data from Topline Research, the Pakistani rupee continues to beat the majority of other global currencies on a daily basis even if many of them continue to lose value in comparison to the US dollar.

According to recent reports, the government’s crackdown on currency smuggling has enhanced export earnings and the formal channels for employees’ remittances.

It’s interesting to note that there have been conversations in the market about how black marketplaces provide the US dollar for less than official markets do (measured in rupee value).

A treasury firm predicted that during the present cycle of appreciation in the interbank market, the rupee would stabilize around Rs285/$. However, the sustained crackdown on currency smuggling may cause the rupee’s surge to go above this level. However, it’s crucial to keep a tight eye on this scenario because excessive appreciation might have an impact on imports and exports.

Official currency markets appear to have ignored a minor decline in the nation’s SBP-held foreign exchange reserves brought on by last week’s foreign loan repayments. This decline follows a small increase in the prior week, demonstrating the intricate interplay of factors affecting the value of the Pakistani rupee.

The head of the oil cartel predicts increased demand

According to Opec+’s secretary general, demand for oil will increase and be “resilient” this year.

The 23 oil-exporting nations that make up Opec+ decide how much crude oil will be sold on the international market.

According to Haitham Al Ghais, “We see demand growing about 2.4 million barrels a day.”

Saudi Arabia announced that it would reduce its daily crude oil production by a million barrels in order to raise prices.

The decision by Saudi Arabia and Russia, two large oil producers and Opec+ members, to cut output may result in a “significant supply shortfall” by the end of this year, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The head of the oil cartel predicts increased demand

“This is a voluntary decision taken by two sovereign nations, Saudi Arabia and Russia,” said Mr. Al Ghais. Because of the unknowns, this decision can be regarded as preventative or preventive.
Oil prices rose after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, reaching more than $120 a barrel in June of the previous year. In May of this year, they retreated to just over $70 a barrel, but since then, as producers have worked to limit supply to maintain the market, they have slowly rebounded.

With supplies expected to be reduced, the price of Brent oil, a benchmark for prices, exceeded $95 per barrel on Tuesday, raising concerns that it may go above $100. The increase sparked concerns that inflation in important economies would persist and led to a warning to drivers that fuel costs may climb in the ensuing 10 months.

Opec, according to Mr. Al Ghais, is more worried about “underinvestment” in the oil industry.

“Some have urged suspending investments in the oil industry. This, in our opinion, is also harmful. Future volatility and potential supply shortages will result from it. Because of this, Opec has consistently emphasized the value of investing in the oil business while also funding efforts to decarbonize it.

Al Ghais responded that it was “important not to look at things in a short-sighted manner” when asked if he was concerned about how rising oil prices might effect inflation throughout the world if they reach $100 per barrel.

“For the upcoming year, we anticipate demand to increase by more than 2 million barrels per day, subject to certain market risks, of course. However, we remain pretty optimistic that this year’s global oil demand will be quite resilient.

According to Mr. Al Ghais, the oil sector will require close to $14 trillion in investments by the year 2045.

By 2045, the energy demand would be about 25% higher than it is today, and all sources of energy will be needed, according to him.

His remarks came ahead of an event for the International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC) that will bring together important oil players on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi.

War in Ukraine: Western allies claim to be out of ammunition

The UK and Nato have warned that Western military forces are running low on supplies to offer Ukraine war so that it can defend itself against a full-scale invasion by Russia.

The top military official of NATO, Adm. Rob Bauer, stated during the Warsaw Security Forum that “the bottom of the barrel is now visible.”

Governments and defense industry producers, he claimed, now needed to “ramp up production in a much higher tempo.”

Every day, Ukraine launches thousands of shells, the majority of them are now NATO-made.

War in Ukraine: Western allies claim to be out of ammunition

The admiral, who is in charge of Nato’s Military Committee, claimed that due to decades of underfunding, Nato nations had started supplying Ukraine with weapons when their stockpile of ammunition was already half full or even less filled.

“We require a lot of volume. The military should not be supported by the just-in-time, just-enough economy we jointly constructed in our liberal economies while a war is still in progress.

James Heappey, the UK’s defense minister, warned the event that Western military inventories were “looking a bit thin” and he asked Nato countries to honor their commitment to spend 2% of their national income on defense.

When is the right time to spend 2% on defense, he questioned, if not now, when there is a war in Europe?

The “just-in-time” concept, according to him as well, “definitely does not work when you need to be prepared for the fight tomorrow.”

Because our stockpiles are beginning to look a little thin, Mr. Heappey added, “We can’t stop.” “We need to keep Ukraine engaged in the conflict tonight, tomorrow, the following day, and the following day. And even if we stop, Putin won’t necessarily follow suit.

And that implied, according to him, “continuing to give, day in and day out, and rebuilding our own stockpiles”.

“The fact that not all of the alliance’s members are currently devoting 2% of their GDP on defense is the elephant in the room. That must serve as the minimum rather than the maximum of our defense spending.

He continued, “When it comes to the alliance, the US is increasingly looking east and west, and I think justifiably our colleagues in Congress need to see the European powers are spending their 2% to resource Nato equitably.”

WHO suggests a new, less expensive malaria vaccination for kids

An cheap, widely distributed malaria vaccine created by the University of Oxford has been recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), marking a significant advancement in the fight against the potentially fatal disease conveyed to humans by some mosquitoes.

The primary victims of malaria, a serious worldwide health concern that has been a significant issue for more than a century, are babies and infants. However, contracts have already been made to produce more than 100 million doses of the new vaccine R21 annually.

WHO suggests a new, less expensive malaria vaccination for kids

It is challenging to create a vaccination against the illness since it is brought on by a sophisticated parasite that is conveyed by blood-sucking mosquitoes and is more clever than a virus because it can change shape inside the human body.

It has been nearly two years to the day since the WHO approved the first vaccine, known as RTS,S and created by GSK, according to the BBC.

The WHO’s director-general, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stated: “I used to dream of the day we would have a safe and effective vaccine against malaria, and now we have two.”

The UN health organization claimed that both vaccines’ efficacy was “very similar,” but the main distinction was Oxford University’s capacity to produce R21 on a large scale.

Even though there are now only 18 million RTS,S doses available, Serum Institute of India, the largest vaccine maker in the world, wants to raise production to 200 million doses annually and produce over 100 million doses annually.

The new R21 vaccination was described as a “vital additional tool” by the WHO. Each dose costs between $2 and $4, and each person requires four doses, making it roughly half as expensive as RTS,S.

The two malaria vaccines target the same stage of the parasite’s lifecycle and use similar technologies, but the more recent vaccine is simpler to produce since it has a smaller dose and a simpler adjuvant.

There were 247 million cases of malaria in 2021, and 619,000 people died from it, the majority of them young children. Africa accounts for more than 95% of malaria cases.

Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, the WHO regional director for Africa, commented on the vaccine’s potential when he said: “This second vaccination bears genuine potential to close the enormous demand-and-supply gap.

“The two vaccines can support malaria prevention and control efforts and save hundreds of thousands of young lives when widely implemented and delivered at scale.”

According to data posted online, the R21 vaccine has been shown to be 75% effective in preventing malaria in seasonal areas despite not having undergone the usual scientific review procedure.

In locations where the parasite is prevalent all year round, the WHO’s strategic advisory group of specialists contends that the efficiency of the malaria vaccine is reduced, equivalent to the effectiveness of the first vaccination in seasonal areas.

Director of the Jenner Institute in Oxford, where R21 was created, Prof. Sir Adrian Hill, stated: “The vaccine is easily deployable, cost-effective and affordable, ready for distribution in areas where it is needed most, with the potential to save hundreds of thousands of lives a year.”

How the Google Pixel 8 Pro Will Revolutionize smartphones

There are only a handful of system-on-chip companies in the ecosystem. With Tensor, Google is signalling where it believes development should be happening. With the launch of the Tensor G3 inside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, and Google expected to lean further into the use of AI and ML in software and demonstrate their benefits to the consumer, those companies will be expected to offer silicon that can deliver similar experiences.

Then there’s Android. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will be the first handsets to launch with Android 14 out of the box; other manufacturers will follow in short order, presumably when the Android Open Source Project’s version 14 has a full release after a number of delays over the last few months.

This week, Google will introduce its new Pixel smartphone and accessory lineup. The Pixel 8 Pro is anticipated to make a significant impact on both the Android smartphone market as a whole and the Pixel brand. Yes, Google wants the phone to be a success, but these mobile devices are about more than just market share.
Making the legendary “damn fine smartphone” is the first step since, without one, no one will give Google a chance.

Sunday, October 1st, update: More information about the hardware is being released ahead of Wednesday’s launch, including a series of advertisements for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro leaked by the respected @MysteryLupin.

Pixel 8 ad

How the Google Pixel 8 Pro Will Revolutionize smartphones

The movies demonstrate how simple it is to switch to a Pixel for the general population. A few cover particular topics, but the hero video highlights the aspects Google wants users to pay attention to.

With the slogan “Switch over, don’t start over,” it begins by demonstrating how simple switching to a Pixel is. Texts and messages, contacts, music, and movies are all moved over.

This “your data is safe” portion is followed by the sweet stuff, in which Google lists all of the many camera functions, many of which are powered by artificial intelligence (AI). These include the Real Tone visual representation, the new Best Take tool, which enables the creation of composite images to swap out faces for better shots, and the already-existing Magic Eraser tool to delete undesired portions of a photo.
And each of these is mentioned specifically in relation to Google AI. Beyond “buy these phones,” Mountain View has a message to spread.

Monday, October 2nd, update: It’s not a big surprise that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have appeared on Geekbench, the internet’s preferred benchmarking website, given that the launch is only a few days away. The results for the two new smartphones’ chipsets are more of a well-documented guide than an exact measurement when it comes to a device’s capability.

The Tensor G3 scored more than many had anticipated, and it is comparable to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 score, while operating at a slower clock speed, indicating a more effective chip design. Comparing the single-core and multi-core scores of the Pixel 8 Pro to those of the other flagship devices, the score of 1760/4442 is significantly lower than the ones of the Galaxy S23 Ultra (1880/4981) and the iPhone 15 Pro Max (2882/7140).

However, Tensor chips have never been about pure performance; rather, they have tended to focus on demonstrating a certain AI toolset on the hardware, with all of the benefits that entails.

The present hardware for the Pixel range was derived from the Pixel 6 after the Pixel line underwent multiple design changes. The main change, though, has been Google’s move away from Qualcomm’s different Snapdragon system-on-chips and toward its own creation. The Tensor chipset has been designed to facilitate computational operations that happen on the device rather than being sent to the cloud, particularly for AI and machine learning.

Cotton arrival increases by over 28% in the final two weeks of September: PCGA

When compared to the 2.936 million bales registered on September 30, 2022, cotton arrival increased by more than 71% year over year.

Large tracts of agricultural land were destroyed by flash floods in Pakistan last year, particularly in Sindh and Balochistan, which had an influence on cotton crop production, which fell 34% YoY.

For Pakistan, which is struggling with money problems, the increase in cotton arrivals, a crucial raw material for the textile industry, is a positive development.

The country’s vital textile industry, which accounts for the majority of Pakistan’s exports, is also suffering from a decline in demand and worsening economic conditions.

broken down by province

According to PCGA data, both Punjab and Sindh contributed significantly more cotton than usual.

As of September 30, Punjab had received 2.069 million bales of cotton, up 34% from the 1.545 million bales reported on September 15, 2023. In comparison to the 1.546 million bales that arrived during the same time period previous year, Punjab’s cotton arrivals increased annually by 33.9%.

The arrival of cotton in Sindh increased by 0.567 million bales or 23.7% to 2.956 million bales from 2.389 million bales on September 15. The YoY growth was greater in Sindh, though, as cotton arrivals increased by 112.6 percent compared to the 1.391 million bales reported in SPLY.

Dr. Gohar Ejaz, the interim federal minister for commerce, industries, and production and the head patron of the APTMA, set the ambitious goal of $25 billion in textile exports for the current fiscal year, up from the previous fiscal year’s objective of $16 billion.

The minister also promised a one-month timeframe for the rapid restoration of all the nation’s shuttered sectors.

‘Strong tremor’ predicted by a Dutch expert for Pakistani earthquake

A significant earthquake in Pakistan was predicted by the Netherlands-based Solar System Geometry Survey (SSGEOS), which has gained notoriety for its accuracy in making seismic predictions.

2023 09 30a

‘Strong tremor’ predicted by a Dutch expert for Pakistani earthquake

The SSGEOS predicts that Pakistan will experience this seismic event within the next 48 hours.

The SSGEOS is an organization that focuses on keeping an eye on variations in electric charge in the atmosphere close to the surface of the ocean, which they claim are a sign of areas where increased seismic activity may occur, often within a period of 1 to 9 days.

The organization cautions that the places they flag as potentially affected are estimates, but they nevertheless offer useful information about possible earthquake-prone areas.

The Dutch researcher with SSGEOS recently forecast a large increase in electric activity along Pakistan’s Chaman fault zones.

1 2

The local community is worried as a result of this surge’s prediction of a strong earthquake occurring within the next 48 hours.

This Dutch scientist is notable because he has a history of correctly predicting earthquakes, most notably the terrible quake that struck Turkey earlier this year. Tragically, more than 47,000 people died as a result of the earthquake in Turkey.

The PMD has regularly disregarded such forecasts in the past, claiming that there is no sound scientific evidence to support them.

Due to the confluence of the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate, Pakistan is situated in a seismically active area, making it susceptible to earthquakes.

The nation has seen a number of major earthquakes throughout its history, and the potential of seismic disasters is still a continual worry.

expert judgment
Globally, seismologists continue to stress how difficult it is to anticipate earthquakes with any degree of accuracy. Due to considerable seismic activity, it is possible to predict the likelihood of earthquakes in specific regions, although determining the precise positions and times of earthquakes is still difficult.

Experts emphasize that it is important to proceed cautiously when considering earthquake predictions, especially those given by well-intentioned scientists.
