T20 World Cup: England and Pakistan compete in a classic final for the T20 title

image 32 1

MELBOURNE: If Melbourne‘s unpredictable weather permits, a confident England will try to prevent Pakistan from making a fairytale finish in Sunday’s T20 World Cup final and becoming the first country to hold both global white-ball championships. If the sides are unable to finish a game of at least 10 overs each side before the conclusion of the reserve day on Monday, heavy weather may derail the contest at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and even result in the teams being declared joint champions.

However, the weather should hold out long enough to produce a match between the two nations that competed at the MCG for the 50-over World Cup thirty years ago.

After rocky starts, both teams found their footing in the semi-finals, with England humiliating India by 10 wickets in Adelaide and Pakistan cruising to a seven-wicket victory over New Zealand in Sydney.Since being forced to the brink of elimination by Zimbabwe, Pakistan, the 2009 champions, have had a miraculous tournament. The Netherlands assisted them into the semi-finals by eliminating South Africa.

The United States has returned to Pakistan 192 looted artifacts with an estimated value of $3.4 million.

The Manhattan District Attorney’s (MDA) office in New York City announced on Friday that the United States had returned to Pakistan 192 stolen antiquities worth nearly $3.4 million. The investigation into the art dealer had begun after the dealer was revealed to be of Indian descent in the United States.

Pakistan 192 looted artifacts returned by the US

According to the release, 187 of the artifacts were seized from the art dealer known as Subhash Kapoor, making him one of the most prolific antiquities smugglers in the world.

Ayesha Ali, who serves as the Consul General of Pakistan in New York, and Thomas Acocella, who serves as an Assistant Special Agent-in-Charge for US Homeland Security Investigations, were present at the ceremony where the antiquities were handed back over to Pakistan. The ceremony took place at the Pakistan Consulate.

One of the works of art and artifacts was a Gandharan statue that depicted Maitreya, an enlightened version of the Buddha. The statue was stolen from Pakistan in the 1990s and smuggled into New York City.

When he was accused of smuggling and selling stolen artifacts, the MDA alleged that Kapoor had an art gallery in New York City called “Art of the Past” and a side company that specialized in selling antiquities from Southeast Asia. Both of these businesses were located in Southeast Asia.

It was reported that the artifacts had been plundered from a Neolithic archaeological site in Pakistan before being smuggled to New York.

According to the report, the employees of the art gallery hired a storage container and kept the items there until they were seized by US officials earlier this year.

Archaeologists in Pakistan made the discovery of the archaeological site at Mehrgarh in 1974; however, the site has since been subject to theft.

Due to his poor health, Prime Minister Shahbaz is extending his stay in London.

According to family sources, Prime Minister Shahbaz had a fever just before he was to leave for the airport on Saturday, and his family recommended that he should not fly.

Shahbaz Sharif extends his stay in London.

LONDON: According to family sources, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has decided to prolong his stay in London since the stress of his busy schedule has taken a toll on his health.

The Prime Minister, who had only just arrived in London after attending the COP27 summit in Egypt, was planning to go to Pakistan on Friday, but he has decided to delay his trip by one day.

According to sources close to the Sharif family, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif came down with a fever just before he was scheduled to leave for the airport on Saturday. His family urged him not to fly, so he decided to prolong his stay for a second time.

The younger Sharif is expected to remain in London for a further two days, according to sources close to the family.

It is important to note that when the Prime Minister of Pakistan was in London, he met on many occasions with the leader of the PML-N as well as his older brother, Nawaz Sharif. The politics of the nation as well as the selection of a new army leader were the primary topics of discussion during the discussions.

A court in the United Kingdom rejected Prime Minister Shahbaz’s plea for an extended delay in the defamation lawsuit involving the Daily Mail earlier on Friday. This is a significant defeat for PM Shahbaz.

According to British media, Justice Matthew Nicklin heard the case. It was also claimed that the court refused the petitioner, Prime Minister Shahbaz, extra time. This is because PM Shahbaz’s hands are busy with the long march that the PTI is conducting.

In their response to the court, the PM’s counsels said that the Prime Minister was now involved in professional tasks, and they asked that the Prime Minister be given more time to provide his responses. The court approved their request.

According to the accounts in the media, in response to this, Justice Nicklin said that “in his court, the prime minister and the common man are equal.”

If Prime Minister Shahbaz and his son-in-law Ali Imran do not answer to attorneys for the Daily Mail in court, they will be responsible for covering all of the defendant’s legal fees.

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom sent a legal notice in 2019 to a British newspaper and the journalist who worked there, David Rose, for accusing the Prime Minister of misappropriating public monies.

“The article is gravely defamatory of PM Shahbaz, including false allegations that he misappropriated UK taxpayers’ money in the form of Department for International Development (DFID) aid intended for the victims of the devastating 2005 earthquake in Pakistan. PM Shahbaz denies these allegations,” the legal document said.

After PM Shahbaz’s attorneys unilaterally appealed to the court to withdraw the stay motion in favor of the trial procedures continuing, Justice Nicklin decided in a London court that PM Shahbaz’s lawyers must deposit £30,000 by November 23.

Although this motion was submitted by PM Shahbaz’s attorneys at Carter-Ruck after he was exonerated in the money-laundering case by a court in Pakistan, the application for stay in the London High Court was lodged far earlier than that.

PTI’s ‘long march’ from Lala Musa to Jhang will resume today.

According to the PTI party’s head, demonstrators from throughout the nation will hopefully congregate in Rawalpindi.

PTI's 'long march' from Lala Musa to Jhang will resume today.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-(PTI) Insaf’s Haqeeqi Azadi March will continue today from Lala Musa to Jhang, according to party leader Musarrat Cheema.

Musarrat said that Lala Musa was the penultimate pit break before the march arrived in Islamabad and that a second procession would march from Jhang, led by PTI Secretary General Asad Umar.

She said that, in addition to the two major processions, caravans of party supporters from around the nation were making their way to the federal capital under the guidance of the party’s top officials.

“Everyone will reach Rawalpindi together, InShaAllah,” she concluded.

The PTI long march began on Thursday, a week after the assassination attempt on Imran Khan, which had previously halted the march. The march was divided into two sections. The first marched on from Wazirabad, the location of Imran’s assassination, and was headed by PTI Vice Chairperson Shah Mehmood Qureshi. The second demonstration, headed by Asad Umar, left Toba Tek Singh the next day.

Following his speech in Toba Tek Singh, Asad led the crowd to Gojra, where he was greeted outside Hamza Usman’s home.

Asad told a crowd in Gojra that “the march is now taking place throughout the country” and that Imran would “finally lead participants from all over the country from Rawalpindi to Islamabad”.

In his remarks, the PTI leader asked Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to be prepared to resign from the government with all of his supporters rather than continue to believe that torturing protesters is acceptable.

According to Asad, the protracted march would compel the country’s “imported” leadership to hold general elections, which Imran will win with a “majority of more than two-thirds.”

Other party leaders were present, including PTI leader Shahbaz Gill. Following the address, the marchers proceeded from Toba Tek Singh to Kamalia through Rajana and Pirmahal.

From Wazirabad, PTI Vice Chairperson Shah Mehmood Qureshi led the rally towards Gujrat, where party chief Imran Khan addressed the participants of the long march via video link. Gujrat was the final destination of the long march.

Shehbaz Sharif and Babar Azam

Babar Azam, responding to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “152/0 vs 170/0” post following India’s semi-final loss: “I didn’t see this tweet, so I have no knowledge of it.”

Sharif tweeted on India’s defeat to Pakistan by 10 wickets in the 2021 Twenty20 World Cup.

Sharif's "152/0 vs 170/0" post following India's semi-final loss

Babar Azam, captain of the Pakistani cricket team, revealed during a news conference that he had not seen Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s now-famous tweet comparing the scores 152 to 0 and 170 to 0. The T20 World Cup final is set for the Melbourne Cricket Ground, with Pakistan taking against England.

When asked if such social media postings tend to put more pressure on the side, one respondent said that they did.

“There is no pressure as such. But sorry to say, I didn’t see this tweet so I have no knowledge of it. But yes we just try to give our best against the opposition,” Babar told reporters at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, made what looked to be a jab at India following their defeat by England in the second semifinal on Thursday, which India suffered by a score of ten wickets.

Sharif tweeted, “So, this Sunday, it’s: 152/0 vs 170/0,” making reference to India’s loss of 10 wickets to Pakistan in the 2021 T20 World Cup and the fact that England and Pakistan will now play each other in the final on Sunday. Pakistan defeated India by 10 wickets.

Pakistan has returned to the stadium where the story of the trapped tigers was first told thirty years ago, and England is once again the team that stands in their way.

This improbable journey to the Twenty20 World Cup final has many parallels to Pakistan’s 1992 victory against England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which gave Pakistan its first World Cup trophy in the 50-over format.

Imran Khan is dubious that the nomination of the army commander should be based on merit.

Imran Khan is dubious that the nomination of the army commander should be based on merit.

According to the leader of the PTI, Nawaz Sharif has been stealing from the nation for the last 30 years, and he is now in charge of making important policy choices.

Imran Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), delivered the keynote address at the Pakistan Tehreek-e-(PTI) Insaf’s “Haqeeqi Azadi March” via a video link from Lahore. He stated that the Supreme Leader of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz Sharif, always promoted those individuals who could benefit him personally.

The head of the PTI made the accusation, “Nawaz Sharif is now going to decide about the army chief’s appointment. The N-League [PML-N] has never done anything on merit. Nawaz has been stealing public money for the past 30 years, he only wants to hide his theft”.

“Every major decision about the country will be taken by this criminal, who has been taking money out of the country. Nawaz Sharif was convicted by the JIT [joint investigation team which investigated corruption cases against him], now he will take the country’s decision,” he continued.

Following their elevation to the positions of Prince and Princess of Wales, Prince William and Kate Middleton have participated in a number of official engagements as part of royal tours.

In spite of their packed itinerary, the couple from Wales chose to take advantage of some spare time throughout the week by going out to lunch at a pub in Windsor.

The occasion was Maggie Caxton’s celebration with her spouse after she was awarded an OBE, and Kate and William had lunch together at a table near where they were seated.

Maggie serves as the chairperson of the North East Learning Trust, which is a multi-academy trust with the mission of assisting children in fully realizing their potential.

As Maggie tweeted about her lunch with the royals on social media, a number of Twitter users remarked on her good fortune.

“Congratulations to Maggie, what a wonderful way to celebrate this achievement… a memory to treasure forever,” said one.

“Oh my goodness, talk about a perfect way to cap off an amazing day! Congratulations!!” authored another.

The adorable lunch date between Kate and William took place not long after the princess marked a solo outing and met with staff, clients, and health professionals at the Colham Manor Children’s Centre in Hillingdon, west London, in her role as patron of the Maternal Mental Health Alliance. currency gap widens, and fewer funds are sent home.

KARACHI: Due to a growing currency rate gap in the open and interbank market and a worldwide downturn, remittances sent home by Pakistanis working abroad decreased by more than 9% month-over-month to $2.2 billion in October.

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Friday that remittance inflows had dropped to $1.92 billion from $2.62 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.

However, in the first four months of the current fiscal year 2022-23 (July-October), remittances fell by 9% year-over-year, to $9.9 billion.

In an interview with The News, the head of research at the Pakistan-Kuwait Investment Company, Samiullah Tariq, listed the following three primary factors as the cause of a fall in inflows:

  1. Rise in global interest rates diverting dollars
  2. Higher inflation reduces disposable income
  3. The gap between official and unofficial exchange rates has

Smuggling and increased prices given via informal and illegal channels were also cited by analysts as contributing factors to the reduction, making it the second straight drop to be linked to these factors.

It is important to take into account that throughout the course of this month, the difference in dollar rate that exists between the official and informal markets expanded. As a direct consequence of this, a significant portion of remittances had been transferred to the black market via the use of hundi and hawala.

In spite of the fact that the value of the rupee remained unchanged on the interbank market over the previous month, there was a scarcity of dollars and even other currencies in the open market.

On the other hand, Tariq anticipated that remittances will improve in the future as a result of the actions being taken by the government.

Currently, Matthew Hayden serves as a team mentor for Pakistan. Since it is not narrowly defined, he is in a better position to provide his opinion on a wider range of issues than if he had been a bowling coach or batting consultant, as he was during the men’s T20 World Cup in 2016. Hayden would take that freedom nearly to its breaking point two days before the men’s T20 World Cup 2022 final at the MCG, pontificating on topics as diverse as India’s lack of a legspinner in their semi-final team and the “commitment to Islam” of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam.

Given that PCB chief Ramiz Raja recruited him for this position, it should come as no surprise that Hayden brings a vibes-over-tactics mentality to this Pakistan team. To attend the ICC Board meeting, Raja has traveled to Melbourne, Australia. He was the one who caught the ball that ultimately led to Pakistan’s victory in the 50-overs men’s World Cup thirty years ago. He spoke with the press at the MCG, but Hayden was the real star. Hayden’s outgoing nature shouldn’t be seen as a reflection of his cricketing acumen, and he found himself nearly verbalizing his assessment of Pakistan’s challenge in the final.

“You’ve got quality fast bowling versus quality batting. It’s why you want to watch the game,” says Hayden. “We’ve got four quicks – not just Shaheen [Shah Afridi] and Naseem [Shah] – who can create some sustainable damage inside 20 overs. One of the things that I think that India was really missing last night also in the spin-bowling department was a leg-spinning option, really a sixth-bowling option. This side has six genuine options and a seventh as well, you know, should Ifti [Iftikhar Ahmed] be required. The bases are covered.”

“I think both sides actually have got very equal set-ups. So you look at the England set-up as well, they’ve got genuinely six bowling options and a handy option of having batting allrounders as well, with Moeen Ali and also [Adil] Rashid. So yeah, it’s just even stevens. At the start of this tournament, I always thought that England was going to be a huge threat to this tournament. And here we are on the eve of a final”, he added.

Hayden’s attendance before the final is good luck for the team he currently coaches if his previous experience with a press pack is any indication. Prior to Pakistan’s semi-final match against New Zealand on Tuesday, he had spoken passionately in Babar’s defense, predicting that the Pakistan skipper will make a huge contribution in the next match. Babar and his close friend Rizwan were back to their irrepressible best in the semi-final, putting the game out of New Zealand’s grasp with a 105-run partnership in only 12.4 overs.

Battles between billionaires and a failed attempt to save cryptocurrency were the causes of FTX’s decline

Owner of the bitcoin exchange FTX Sam Bankman-Fried surprised his staff on Tuesday morning with a depressing letter. He apologised and admitted that he had made a mistake.

The reason for the apology: He made his announcement 30 minutes before FTX’s fiercest competitor, Binance, prepared to launch a surprise takeover of its primary trading platform to prevent a “liquidity bottleneck.” The billionaire had accused Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, creator of Binance, of sabotage; now he would be his White Knight.

According to interviews with several people close to Bankman-Fried and previously undisclosed communications from both companies, the seeds of FTX’s demise were planted months earlier as a result of errors Bankman-Fried made after he intervened to save other crypto firms as the crypto market crashed amid rising interest rates.
