Tesla has designated August 25 as the market day for three-for-one split shares

image 184

Tesla Inc said on Friday that trading in its three-for-one split shares will begin on August 25 after shareholders accepted the plan at the company’s annual meeting.

At the company’s annual meeting on Thursday, shareholders voted for board recommendations on most matters, including re-electing directors and accepting a stock split, while rejecting suggestions focusing on the environment and governance.

According to Refinitiv statistics, Tesla CEO Elon Musk owns 15.6 percent of the company after selling millions of shares last year.

According to the firm, each stockholder of record on Aug. 17 will receive a dividend of two additional shares for each share retained, which will be delivered following the conclusion of trading on Aug. 24.

The fresh share split comes two years after a five-for-one split helped bring the high-flying stock’s price down to the level of ordinary investors.

While a split has no effect on a company’s fundamentals, it may boost the share price by allowing a broader group of investors to buy the stock.

According to Nikkei, Apple has asked its suppliers to observe Chinese customs regulations

image 183

According to a Nikkei story on Friday, Apple Inc has instructed suppliers to verify that shipments from Taiwan to China conform with the latter’s customs procedures to avoid them being held for inspection.

Trade tensions between China and the United States have risen following a visit to Taiwan by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and a legislative group.

According to the article, the iPhone maker informed suppliers that China has begun enforcing a long-standing rule that Taiwanese-manufactured parts and components must be labelled as created in “Taiwan, China” or “Chinese Taipei.”

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

In response to a media claim that shipments to Pegatron’s factory in China were being held for inspection by Chinese customs officials, Apple iPhone assembler Pegatron Corp said its mainland China plant is working properly.
Foxconn and Pegatron, two Taiwanese supply and assembly partners, are increasing manufacturing efforts as Apple prepares to debut the next iPhone in September.

Badosa defeats Gauff to advance to the San Jose semi-finals

image 183

Badosa, rated fourth in the world, came back twice from a break down in the first set to advance to the final four, where she will face seventh-seeded Daria Kasatkina, a 4-6, 7-5, 6-0 winner over fourth-seeded Aryna Sabalenka.

Gauff, an 18-year-old who reached her first Grand Slam final this year at the French Open, was coming off a thrilling win over four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka on Thursday night.

The sixth-seeded American appeared to be riding the energy of her previous victory, as she emerged from a three-break serve exchange with a 3-2 lead in the first set on her way to a 5-3 victory.

Gauff unravelled as she served for the set after Badosa held serve, blasting three double faults to lost her serve as they went to tiebreaker, which Gauff surrendered with another pair of double faults.
Badosa raced to a 5-1 lead and served out the match with confidence two games later, looking nervous as she dropped her opening service game of the second set.

“It’s never easy to get off to a good start against such an aggressive guy with a huge serve,” Badosa said. “I think I adapted fairly well at the end of the first set, and I played a really beautiful tiebreak,” she says.

Boris Johnson is ‘on leave’ as the UK’s economic situation worsens

image 182

LONDON — A British cabinet member conceded on Friday, “I don’t know where Boris is,” as the prime minister went on vacation, capping off a week in which the Bank of England warned of a year-long recession.

Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie have been on a belated honeymoon since Wednesday. Downing Street has declined to identify where the pair is, although The Times daily reports that they are in Slovenia.

Johnson will have a lot more time on his hands after September 6, when he is supposed to pass over the Conservative leadership to either Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak, but he elected to take a sabbatical sooner.

The opposition Labour Party accused the government’s two top ministers of being “absent in activity,” with Chancellor of the Exchequer Nadhim Zahawi among them.

He stated that he exchanges WhatsApp messages with both Johnson and Zahawi “all the time,” and that claims that the government is doing little to address the economic issue is “nonsense.”

On Thursday, Zahawi claimed he spoke with Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey after the central bank raised interest rates from 1.25 percent to 1.75 percent, the largest increase in 27 years.

As the UK economy enters a recession in the fourth quarter that will run until late 2023, the bank is attempting to contain rising inflation, which it has warned might reach 13.3 percent.

Elon Musk says the Twitter acquisition should go ahead if confirmation of authentic accounts is provided

image 181

Elon Musk stated that if Twitter Inc could share its process for sampling 100 accounts and confirming that the accounts are genuine, his $44 billion proposal to buy the business should proceed on its original terms.

“However, if their SEC filings prove out to be materially inaccurate, then it should not,” Musk tweeted early Saturday.
When asked by Reuters, Twitter declined to comment on the tweet.

Musk’s assertion that he was duped into accepting the deal to buy the social media business was disputed by Twitter on Thursday, calling it “implausible and contrary to fact.”

“According to Musk, the billionaire founder of several companies who was instructed by Wall Street bankers and attorneys, Twitter duped him into signing a $44 billion acquisition agreement.”

Siegfried Aikman describes Australia’s 7-0 thrashing of Pakistan’s semi-fin al aspirations as a “learning opportunity.

image 181

BIRMINGHAM: A day after Pakistan’s crushing 7-0 loss to Australia, coach Siegfried Aikman says it was a learning experience for his team.

Australia ended Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the Commonwealth Games semi-finals on Thursday night, with Jeremy Hayward and Tom Wickham scoring twice apiece at the University of Birmingham.

Pakistan, who needed to win by two goals to overtake South Africa in second place, will now face Canada in a classification match for 7th-8th place, while Australia proceeded to a last-four matchup with hosts England.

“We had a tremendous opponent yesterday in Australia, the current world number two,” Aikman stated in a short tweet on Friday. “A fantastic challenge and learning opportunity.”

Pakistan started as though they intended to win, putting Australia, who have won gold in all six Commonwealth Games editions since the sport was introduced, under pressure.

Australian goalkeeper Andrew Charter denied Pakistan three attempts, twice in quick succession in general play and once from an accompanying penalty corner.

But once Australia took the lead in the 12th minute through Blake Glovers, there was no turning back.

When given with an open goal, Glovers obliged, Jake Whetton toying with the baseline before his ball to Wickham was slapped across the face to Govers.

Shoaib Akhtar has his ‘hopefully final surgery

image 180

After a lengthy delay, Pakistan’s famous bowler Shoaib Akhtar is receiving “hopefully” his final knee surgery in Australia.

Last December, the world’s fastest bowler, popularly known as the “Rawalpindi Express,” said that he had a painkillers injection in his knee. In a video posted on Twitter, Akhtar stated that he had five similar surgeries, but that it was all “worth it” because competing for Pakistan as a pace bowler meant a lot to him.

The procedure has been postponed for a few months. Yet this is the anguish I have to bear. “It will be an eight-hour partial knee replacement operation, and maybe I will come out okay […] and I don’t look forward to it,” he stated, pleading with people not to judge him.

In reaction, Pakistan’s former all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez expressed hope that the ex-pacer recovers swiftly from the surgery, since he will be in discomfort for two to three weeks, according to Akhtar. “Wishing you a speedy recovery and a healthy life, @shoaib100mph,” Hafeez wrote.

Wrestlers Mohammad Inam and Zaman Anwar win silver, while sprinter Shajar Abbas advances to the 200m final

image 180 7

On Friday, Pakistan’s wrestling squad had two gold medals within grasp at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. In the end, they only received two silver medals for their efforts.

Following the failure of the country’s leading hope, Mohammad Inam, in the much-anticipated Indo-Pak duel for the +86kg title, Zaman Anwar was pinned in the +125kg final at the Coventry Arena.

Their silver medals added to the bronze medal won earlier in the +65kg division by compatriot Inayatullah, bringing Pakistan’s medal count to five so far at the Games.

If Shajar Abbas makes the podium in the men’s 200m final on Saturday, Pakistan might win another medal. After finishing third in the preliminary round, the 22-year-old sprinter earned a ticket in the final.

Weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt has delivered the only gold for Pakistan and there were high hopes that Inam would add another winners’ medal.

But the 33-year-old, who was imperious at the previous edition of the Games in Australia, couldn’t repeat that feat when he lost 3-0 to Indian rival Deepak Punia in the final.

Inam looked far from his best throughout the duel against Punia, 10 years his junior, as he was booked for passivity early before the Indian successfully pushed his opponent out of the ring to take a 2-0 lead.

Both wrestlers were largely defensive in the bout but Inam did make a last effort to make a comeback despite clearly gasping for breath, only for Punia to easily thwart the same and get on top of him.

Inam had won his opening quarter-final bout against Australian Jayden Lawrence on points (8-3) before recording a come-from-behind 5-3 semi-final win over Edward Lessing of South Africa.

Monsoon emergency declared as minister warns of more rain beginning today

image 180 5

ISLAMABAD: Senator Sherry Rehman, Minister for Climate Change, warned Pakistanis on Friday of additional rain starting today (Saturday), after the federal cabinet declared a “monsoon emergency.”

“According to the Pakistan Met Department, the country will receive additional showers in the coming week,” she tweeted on Friday. From August 6 to 9, Islamabad, Kashmir, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and Sindh will see severe rain.

“Additionally, from August 10 to 13, these areas, especially Gilgit Baltistan, may suffer high winds and thundershowers.” All federal and provincial agencies have been instructed to be vigilant and take the appropriate precautions. Meanwhile, all district commissioners and provincial administrations should be mobilised to prevent further casualties.”

She stated that the water level in the Chenab, Jhelum, and Ravi rivers could rise, posing a risk of flash flooding in local rivers and nullahs in the majority of these provinces’ cities and towns.

Rains may cause landslides in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galiyat, Murree, Chilas, Diamer, Gilgit, Hunza, Astore, Ghizer, and Skardu, she said, advising travellers and tourists to travel in consideration of the weather conditions and to be more cautious while travelling, particularly in the northern areas and Kashmir.

According to the minister, the effects of climate change in the country have continued to worsen as “we have suffered lengthy heat waves, Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs), and forest fires.”

According to Fawad, the ‘question’ is not about Pakistan’s soil, but about its airspace

image 180 4

On Saturday, PTI chairman Fawad Chaudhry claimed the “question” was not about Pakistan’s soil being utilised in the US drone assault that killed Al Qaeda leader Ayman Al Zawahiri, but about its airspace, as he wanted a written statement from ministries.

The former minister appeared to be responding to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Babar Iftikhar’s recent comments on the subject. The DG ISPR ruled out the notion in a brief phone interview on  Friday night, stating there is no question of Pakistani soil being used for “such a purpose.”

“The question is whether Pakistan’s airspace was authorised to be used or not,” Chaudhry remarked in a tweet today.”Repeated assertions about Pakistan’s land not being utilized are ambiguous,” Chaudhry remarked, emphasising that organizations are generally would need to publish a formal statement on the subject.

In a press conference yesterday, Chaudhry sought to know whether the US had exploited Pakistan’s airspace for a previous drone strike that killed Zawahiri. “The nation desires to know whether we will once again become a tool of the US against Al Qaeda,” he said.

When asked about the issue on the Naya Pakistan programme, the DG ISPR stated, “The Foreign Office has clarified everything in detail.” They’re all rumours, because anyone can post anything at all on social media. This is something we should avoid. Our adversary, in particular, distributes such information, and they (people) are exploited.”

Covid infections continuing to fall around the UK

Covid infections are continuing to fall in the UK, dropping by more than half a million in a week, according to the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

126211414 70dacc84 a54b 41b8 ace8 713284a9f9d5

Roughly 2.6 million people had the virus in the week to 26 July, compared to 3.2 million the previous week.

The number of people in hospital with the virus is also decreasing.

But experts warn there is still a lot of Covid around, with data estimating one in 25 people in England currently have the virus.

Vaccines are helping protect people from severe illness, however.
The ONS data is collated by testing thousands of people from UK households – whether or not they have symptoms – to estimate how much virus is circulating.

‘Continued decreases’
In the latest ONS report, for the week ending 26 July , the estimated Covid rates were:

One in 25 in England – down from one in 20 the week before
One in 30 in Wales – down from one in 19
One in 17 in Northern Ireland – down from one in 16 (although experts say the trend is uncertain)
One in 20 in Scotland – down from one in 19
“Our most recent data suggests that infection rates have continued to decrease across much of the UK, although rates still remain high,” said Dr Rhiannon Yapp, co-lead for the ONS survey.

“We have seen continued decreases in all regions and age groups in England.

“With the summer holidays and more people travelling, we will continue to closely monitor the data,” she added.

Many of the recent cases have been linked to fast-spreading sub-variants of Omicron, called BA.4 and BA.5.

People are still able to become infected, even if they have had Covid before – but vaccines are helping to protect people from becoming severely ill.

The government announced last month that everyone aged 50 and over in the UK will be offered another Covid booster vaccine this autumn.

The star in question, Christina Ricci had the chat, while on the set of the 1990s film Mermaids.

It was there that Depp explained the intimate side of relationships between men “simply.”

She recounted the incident on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live show.

There, she began by admitting, “Johnny (Depp) is actually the person who explained to me what homosexuality was when I was nine.”

“There was something going on on set and someone was not being nice to someone else. And they were like, ‘Oh, well he might be homophobic.’ And then I was like, ‘Well, I don’t understand what that is.’”

“And, and I was in Winona’s (Ryder) trailer and she was like, ‘I don’t know how…’ so she put me on the phone with Johnny. And Johnny explained it to me.”

She went on to emphasize how it was “(in) like the simplest terms. He was like, ‘It’s when a man wants to have [expletive] with a man. And when a woman wants to have [expletive] with a woman,’ and I was like, ‘Ah, okay.’”

“All those empty seats is never a good look. According to the UN it wasn’t really that well publicised. Rubbish. This was put into the world’s media.”

“Everybody would have known about it so what was the particular problem?” he even pointed out.

“Meghan wants answers, naturally because they made that big effort to come all the way from California to spend time in New York and when they arrived, there wasn’t the welcome they both anticipated. You can understand they schlepped all those miles to do that.”

Machine Gun Kelly, Megan Fox to plan wedding after Mainstream Sellout Tour

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox still “fully planning on getting married” but have put it on hold till the rapper completes his worldwide Mainstream Sellout Tour.

An insider spilled to Hollywood Life that the lovebirds are “madly in love” and might tie the knot in a low-key wedding ceremony just like Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck.

“They are far from breaking up and still fully planning on getting married, but right now the major focus is on his tour which goes until mid-October,” an insider told the outlet.

After the tour in the support of MGK’s newest album is over, the couple will begin to “focus on their wedding,” the source revealed.

“They do both joke about running off to Vegas and eloping so that’s always a possibility, no one would be too shocked,” the insider added.

Previously, on The Late Late Show with James Corden, MGK, whose real name is Colson Baker, said he’s been “struggling” to decide the perfect location for his bug day.

Pakistan’s independence day

Iqra waheedullah

It is pertinent to discuss August 14, Pakistan’s independence day. What do we Pakistani’s do? On August 14, we remove silencers from motorbikes and convene on roads with drums and horns. My question is: which part of Pakistan’s independence do people celebrate? Is this the Pakistan that ,our national poet, Allama Iqbal envisioned? In this country, even animals are unsafe- from birds to kittens- all are struggling to survive. To make matters worse, children in Masjids are targeted and made victims to satisfy uncontrollable sexual desires is this the same country whose foundation was laid upon the principles of Islam? The same country for which thousands sacrificed their life. A recent story emerged in the news narrating a story about a man who deliberately assaulted a boy of Hindu religion until he uttered “ALLAH u Akbar” to consolidate his standing as a muslim. What an absolute travesty of the principles of Islam. Islam does not allow forceful conversion of minorities nor does it permit violence. Moreover, in some cases in Pakistan, religious buildings of minorities were attacked. The question arises is Pakistan the same country where intellects were given freedom to reside? Women are being harassed and assaulted. Yes, it is often claimed by the offender that the victim was wearing revealing clothes and he was aroused by the sight. It is a shame that a 7 year or 5 month old female child causes a man to lose control and become aroused. Is this the same ‘ PAK SAR ZAMEEN’ that Hafiz Jalandhar referred to in his national anthem? Even goats have been sexually assaulted by these savages. Were the goats also wearing inappropriate clothes? It was definitely the fault of the goat who was unclothed. Should animals also be clothed? Should they also be prevented from venturing outside? Did Quaid e Azam fight for Pakistan’s independence for such incidents to occur in the country? Blood brothers are murdering each other, sons are killing their fathers, some son has shot his mother for not providing him with money to buy drugs, a sister asked for her inheritance share and was brutally killed. Is this the “SHAHEEN” that Allama Iqbal mentioned in his poetry? If not, then what do you people celebrate August 14 for? By holding a flag, removing silencers from motorbikes and tooting horns, what are you people attempting to prove?

As the news of increase in Jerdoni sales by 380% after former PM Imran Khan wore its polo shirt got viral, the brand’s sales further skyrocketed to 1040%

The former PM Imran Khan was seen at a recent meeting with Maulana Tariq Jameel wearing a Jerdoni’s white polo shirt. The company has been known for its stylish designs for over a year but this time around Jerdoni has got one of its products to public attention, thanks to Imran Khan.

Last day this news circulated in well-known newspapers and magazines including Daily Times, Express Tribune, Global Space Village, Pakistan Startup, and Diva magazine. Since its circulation, the sales again skyrocketed to 1050%. The brand’s social media channels were flooded with queries and comments about how much people loved Imran Khan’s shirt and how they can buy one!

The company is well-known for its high-quality fabrics and attention to detail, and it seems that people have finally realized it! Jerdoni is a US-based company that distributes its products in the US, Canada, Mexico, the UAE, Singapore, and Australia. Jerdoni sells polos; casual wear and activewear via Al Fatah, AK Galleria, and Amazon as well.

The company claims that there is now “a distinct style” associated with its products thanks to this association with Imran Khan; however, Jerdoni’s CEO does not seem too concerned about it saying: “We’ve always been about quality and craftsmanship,” so there’s no telling how long this trend will last!’’

Well, the visions of the former Prime Minister and the founder of Jerdoni aligns well. Both of them believe in sweating for success beforehand. Jerdoni’s founders believe in their customers’ potential to achieve their goals similarly Prime Minister Imran Khan also advocates struggle. ‘’This is a high time for us as a nation to sweat in the name of struggle that will bore fruits for our tomorrow’’- says Shah Hassan , CEO of Jerdoni.

Blinken meets Cambodian opposition leader

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken met a Cambodian opposition leader facing treason charges during a visit to Phnom Penh Friday, expressing concern about the kingdom’s eroding democracy ahead of elections next year.
One of the world’s longest-serving leaders, Prime Minister Hun Sen has ruled Cambodia for more than 37 years. In 2018 his party won every seat in a national election.
And in June, a Phnom Penh court convicted about 60 opposition figures — including dual US-Cambodian citizen Theary Seng — in a mass treason trial that rights groups have condemned as politically motivated.
Blinken said he directly expressed concerns about the kingdom’s ailing democracy during talks with Hun Sen while visiting the Cambodian capital for the Association of South East Nations (ASEAN) foreign ministers’ meeting.
Allowing broader participation in the political system would strengthen the country, the secretary of state told reporters Friday.
“One of the things that stand in the way of strengthening the relationship between our countries are our concerns about eroding respect for human rights and democratic institutions here in Cambodia,” he said.
Washington’s top diplomat said that earlier Friday he met Cambodian opposition leader Kem Sokha, who is on trial for treason in a case that has dragged on since January 2020 — and which could effectively rule him out of next year’s national election.
During talks with Hun Sen, Blinken also raised the case of Theary Seng. The outspoken lawyer and campaigner were hit with a six-year jail term in June’s treason case.
Hun Sen and his ruling party have publicly backed the prime minister’s eldest son — currently commander of the army — to eventually take the reins.
Ahead of local elections two months ago, the United Nations Human Rights Office said it was disturbed by reports of opposition obstruction in a “paralyzing political environment”.
Hun Sen’s political party later announced a landslide win.

Foreign funding viewed differently

Iqbal Hadi Zaidi

/ Kuwait / +965-66699728

zaidiexdiplomat@hotmail.com

2nd August, 2022, is one of the most very important and recorded day in history of Pakistan ever since the country was born in 14th August, 1947 as Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) which took as long as 8 years to dig deep bygoing through all the documents, evidences, commentaries and statements issued from time to time, both from the government and opposition,in connection with the investigationsabout foreign funding, has ultimately announced its verdict saying in quite crystal clear terms without slightest shadow of doubts that Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) led by former Prime Minister Imran Khan Niazihas received huge funds from not only 34 different foreign nationals but also has received quite heavy amounts from as many as 351 foreign-based companies as well to run PTI affairs in my beloved Pakistan which as per ECP, is absolutely, categorically, emphatically and wholly illegal under all circumstances whatsoever and is not at all allowed and cannot be allowed either come what may.

It will be nothing but sheer waste of my time to pen and your time to read, if at all, I go into the details of the case as our press has already flashed the full decision hence I will touch some other points which are both directly and indirectly associated with Imran himself in an attempt to come out with a bright glazing clear picture without any ifs and buts so that even a brute commoner who had never been to any school can understand my view point without indulging into any complications and intricacies.

Money is money which is not only liked but needed as well by all without any exception whatsoever and I will very briefly touch just a few components of our society to corroborate my statement that none on the face of earth can deny it under all circumstances for the very cogent reason that the money is needed by the rich or poor, governor or governed, male or female, child or youth, old or senior citizen, educated or uneducated, single or married, employed or unemployed, white or black, tall or short, healthy or sick, to name just a few. Secondly, all love money and incidentally, more one gets, still the greedier he becomes to get more and more money which is endless in any case and the lust of money continues alike till the person breathes his last which is applicable to 99.9% simply because none wants to give it to others without any personal interest. The worst example is that of a Muslim who has enough sources and resources and is under divine obligation to pay just 2.5% Zakat as ordained by Allah but it is the lust and love of money that he prefers not to pay Zakat and instead annoy Allah. There are specialized tax consulting firms to advise their clients all the channelized and non-channelized ways and methods as to how to save tax money and greater majority of tax payers willingly pay the consultation fee to the tax consultant and save their money which otherwise had been paid by them to the tax authorities. Such blazing, glaring and glazing examples establish and prove that lust of money overpowers everything which is very much regretted but what to do otherwise.

Coming back to ECP and Imran, what really astonishes me more than surprises is that as per ECP, as many as 34 foreign nationals have donated hell of money to Imran Khan proves what, if not the love and respect he commands, needs an immediate answer and must not be ignored? Generally speaking, one or two or three or even one dozen foreigners could be so much overwhelmed with Imran personality that they simply could not resist giving money to him but in this very particular case 34 people have been mentioned to have donated money to Imran really proves beyond any question that Imran’s personality and outer exposure is so much alluring, attractive, captivating, charismatic, enchanting, entrancing, fascinating, hypnotic, magnetic and mesmerizing that despite the fact that each one of those 34 loved money but yet they themselves felt so much honored and pleased that they eventually were left with no option but to donate the money purely at their own sweet will and wish.

351 foreign-based companies have also given quite handsome money to Imran Khan is very much bitterly alleged by ECP in its verdict issued against Imran a couple of days before but it does give birth to the most burning question as to what motivated these companies to dole out so much huge money to none but Imran only? Just for academic discussion and not otherwise,it can be understood thata few companies were so much impressed with the name and fame what Imran has acquired globally that they just out of sheer love, affection, devotion and respect, purely at their own initiative gave so much money to him can very well be understood but in this particular case, there are not 50 or 100 or 200 or even 300 but actually 351 companies are believed to have quite voluntarily given millions which may have rung alarming bells in so many different quarters.

Internationally accepted, reckoned and professed principlewhich has been practiced since centuries is that the one whosoever gives money and on the other hand whosoever takes money are both individually, collectively and equally held accountable for the simple reason that neither the giver has any right to give money nor the receiver is entitled to receive money, unless and until there is a certified bondage between them, otherwise both the concerned parties are liable to investigation and or punishment as the case may be.

Now at this point of time, when there is lot of hue and cry about foreign funding against Imran Khan, I will dare to ask if PM MianShehbaz Sharif, Mian Nawaz Sharif, Asif Ali Zardari, Rana Sanaullah, FazalurRehman, Khawaja Asif, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Khawaja Rafiq, Syed Khursheed Shah, Ahsan Iqbal Chauhdri, to name just a few,who are shouting a lot about foreign funding have courage, if any, to reach 34 foreigners and 351 foreign-based companies to at least very politely, dare not raise their voice, ask them as to when, how and why did they pay so much enormous money to Imran Khan Niazi?

I very much doubt that even just one whosoever, forget about the whole lot, has enough audacity, backbone, boldness, grits, guts, heroism and mettleto reach these donors except just to show off their muscles to Pakistanis only which is much regretted in any case.

Three colonial-era burials found in pre-Hispanic Peru sanctuary

A team of Peruvian archaeologists uncovered three burials from the Spanish colonial period on top of a pre-Hispanic temple, which may be up to 500 years old, a researcher said Thursday.
Peru was under Spanish rule for nearly 300 years, from 1532 when they invaded and defeated the Inca empire until 1821 when popular uprisings led to independence.
“We are working with the hypothesis that the remains belong to a colonial cemetery,” Lucenida Carrion, head of the Archaeology Directorate of the Park of Legends in the Peruvian capital, told AFP.
The park’s 54 archeological monuments and sanctuaries have been the subject of study for decades.
“In this summit, we have discovered the burials of two adults and a child who were wrapped in cotton cloth,” the archaeologist added.
The temple, or pre-Hispanic sanctuary known as “Tres Palos” where the burial site is located, is more than 1,000 years old and is located on land adjacent to the park.
After the pre-Hispanic era, the site was inhabited by settlers from colonial Lima.
“We are considering whether the remains are from the colonial era,” Carrion said, pointing to the clothes, hair, and a Christian crucifix found on one of the remains.
“This finding is important because it will help us determine if there has been a continuous occupation at this site since pre-Hispanic times.”
During the 15th and 16th centuries, the “Tres Palos” sanctuary was used by the Incas as a Tambo (food deposit) and during the colonial era, adobe (mud and straw) houses were built.
Wooden cross
“What stands out is the cross carried on the chest of one character. This cross indicates the moment of transformation to Christianity of the natives or inhabitants that populated this place,” Carrion said.
Other than the brown wooden cross, sandals, textile fragments, bracelets, funeral mantles, and the remains of ceramic vessels were also discovered.
The archaeological team’s findings are among the most important in recent years and add to the study of numerous material testimonies uncovered inside the archaeological complex of Maranga, located near the coast of Lima.
“The works carried out in the place allow us to establish that its history dates back approximately 2,000 years and that they were occupied by the Lima culture, the Ychsma, and finally the Incas,” Carrion said.
The Park of Legends, built in 1964, is named after the pre-Hispanic legends illustrated at the entrance of the enclosure.
In 2018, a team of archaeologists found a 1,300-year-old cemetery from the pre-Hispanic Lima culture near the park.

Taiwan woman gets life sentence over blaze that killed 46

A Taiwanese woman who set off the island’s deadliest fire in decades to get back at her boyfriend escaped the death penalty Friday as the court handed down a life sentence.
Last October’s inferno in the southern city of Kaohsiung raged through multiple floors of a dilapidated 13-story apartment block for hours, killing 46 people and injuring 41.
Authorities had said the blaze started when the defendant Huang Ke-ke, 51, left unextinguished incense ashes on a sofa before leaving the building.
Huang was indicted on murder and arson charges in January, with prosecutors seeking her execution.
Prosecutors said she deliberately started the fire to “embarrass” her boyfriend, who she suspected of cheating and had shown no remorse for her actions.
Kaohsiung district court on Friday convicted Huang on charges of arson and negligence leading to death and sentenced her to life in prison.
“The defendant didn’t have the motive to inflict damage on other residents in the building… the murder offense didn’t stand because she didn’t deliberately” cause the deaths, the court said in a statement.
Huang admitted to lighting sandalwood incense to repel mosquitoes.
But she gave inconsistent statements on what she did before leaving her room, according to prosecutors.
She initially claimed she threw the incense into a bin, but later said she could not remember what she did.
The blaze highlighted concerns over lax safety standards in Taiwan and exposed the poor living conditions of the elderly in a rapidly aging society.
Prosecutors said they would appeal the ruling.

‘Synthetic embryo’ breakthrough but growing human organs far off

Stem cell scientists say they have created “synthetic embryos” without using sperm, eggs, or fertilization for the first time, but the prospect of using such a technique to grow human organs for transplantation remains distant.
The breakthrough was hailed as a major step forward, though some experts said the result could not fully be considered to be embryos and warned of future ethical considerations.
In research published in the journal Cell this week, scientists at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel described mouse stem cells self-assembling into embryo-like structures in the lab.
The research built upon 2018 research that had a bundle of mouse stem cells self-organized into something resembling the beginnings of an embryo — but with far fewer cells.
The Weizmann team led by Palestinian stem cell scientist Jacob Hanna went much further.
They started by collecting cells from the skin of mice, then made them artificially return to the state of stem cells.
The stem cells were then placed in a special incubator, which continuously moved to mimic a mother’s womb.
The vast majority of the cells failed to form anything.
But 50 — 0.5 percent of the 10,000 total — collected themselves into spheres, then embryo-like structures, the researchers said.
After eight days — around a third of the 20-day mouse gestation period — there were early signs of a brain and a beating heart, they added.
They were described as 95 percent similar to normal mouse embryos.
“The embryo is the best organ-making machine and the best 3D bioprinter — we tried to emulate what it does,” Hanna said in a Weizmann statement.

  • ‘Not embryos’ –
While they were the most advanced synthetic embryo-like structures ever grown, some scientists not involved in the research warned against calling them “embryos”.
“These are not embryos,” French stem cell scientist Laurent David told AFP.
“Until proven otherwise, they do not result in a viable individual capable of reproducing,” he added.
He preferred to call them embryoids, the name for a group of cells that resemble an embryo, emphasizing that they showed only the very beginnings of organs.
However, David welcomed the “very convincing” research, which he said could allow further experiments to understand exactly how organs form.
Hanna said the team’s “next challenge is to understand how stem cells know what to do — how they self-assemble into organs and find their way to their assigned spots inside an embryo”.
  • Ethical implications –
If human organs could one day be grown in a lab, it could provide life-saving transplants to thousands of people every year without the need for donors.
There has been progressing in this new field — several years ago researchers managed to develop an artificial intestine in the lab that could be implanted into a mouse.

ASEAN condemns the lack of Myanmar peace progress

Southeast Asian ministers Friday condemned the lack of progress on a crisis resolution plan for coup-hit Myanmar, demanding the junta take action before a regional summit later this year.
Myanmar has been in chaos since a putsch in February last year, and the death toll from the military’s brutal crackdown on dissent has passed 2,100, according to a local monitoring group.
Anger is growing among some Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) members at the generals’ stonewalling, particularly after the execution last month of four prisoners — including two prominent pro-democracy figures.
The 10-member bloc — spearheading so far fruitless efforts to resolve the turmoil — issued a joint statement after foreign minister talks in Phnom Penh.
The ministers said they were “deeply disappointed by the limited progress in and lack of commitment of the Naypyidaw authorities to the timely and complete implementation of the five-point consensus”.
And in a veiled warning to Myanmar’s junta, the statement — referencing Article 20 of the ASEAN charter — noted the leaders’ meeting later this year could still take action over “non-compliance”.
ASEAN decisions are usually taken by consensus, but Article 20 allows a summit to override this principle.
Myanmar’s top diplomat, Wunna Maung Lwin, was not invited to Phnom Penh and was also left out of a foreign ministers’ retreat in February, while junta leader Min Aung Hlaing was snubbed at a leaders’ summit last year.
The foreign ministers also condemned last month’s executions of Phyo Zeya Thaw, a rapper-turned-lawmaker from ousted civilian leader Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy party, and veteran political activist Kyaw Min Yu, better known as “Jimmy”.
Earlier in the week, Malaysia — which has led calls for tougher action — indicated that Myanmar could face suspension from the bloc, should members not see concrete progress ahead of the leaders’ summit.
ASEAN has long been derided by critics as a toothless talking shop, but in addition to Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore have pushed for a firmer line on Myanmar.
Friday’s statement said ASEAN’s special envoy to Myanmar must be allowed to meet with “all relevant stakeholders” — alluding to the military junta’s decision to block access to the detained Suu Kyi. The Nobel laureate and democracy icon face a raft of charges that could see her jailed for more than 150 years.
Taiwan tensions The latest communique did not specifically mention this week’s spat between China and the United States following US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan. A furious Beijing kicked off its biggest-ever military exercises in waters surrounding the self-ruled island in response to the visit on Thursday. But the ASEAN foreign ministers warned against “provocative action”. The situation “could lead to miscalculation, serious confrontation, open conflicts and unpredictable consequences among major powers”, they said in a joint statement published Thursday.

Chelsea boss Tuchel says Cucurella paperwork ‘in progress

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has said the Blues are in the closing stages of finalizing Marc Cucurella’s reported £60 million ($73 million) transfer from Brighton.
The Spain wing-back is now on the verge of becoming Chelsea’s latest pre-season signing with Kalidou Koulibaly, Raheem Sterling, and Carney Chukwuemeka all having arrived at Stamford Bridge.
Should Cucurella’s deal go through, young Chelsea center-back Levi Colwill could head in the opposite direction, on loan, to Brighton.
Both Manchester City and Chelsea have been interested in Cucurella, although the Premier League champions are understood to have balked at Brighton’s asking price.
But Chelsea, under new owner Todd Boehly’s consortium, has remained interested with Tuchel, speaking Friday on the eve of the London club’s season opener away to Everton, saying:
“Well it’s not done yet, but I don’t want to tell you that I don’t know anything about it of course.
“The paperwork is in process, hopefully, we can get it done before noon and Marc is our player; young, hungry, mobile, and a very intelligent player.
“If it goes through it opens some options for maybe Colwill to find some more game time elsewhere.”

PTI gives the government a “one-month deadline” to dissolve the assembly

image 180 3

On Friday, the PTI once more organised a march in Islamabad and gave the coalition government a “one-month ultimatum” to dissolve the legislatures.

Senior PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry stated during a news conference in Islamabad that the party does not trust any judgement made by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and does not believe in the current electoral process either.

He added that the PTI will give the coalition government an ultimatum during the event to reveal the election date, saying, “Within the next 48 hours, the party will announce the date for yet another enormous protest in the federal capital.”
