Following a meeting on Thursday between the provincial minister for transportation Sharjeel Inam Memon and Yutong Bus Country Manager Paul Zhang, the Chinese company Yutong Bus accepted the offer to establish a public transportation plant in Sindh.
Hyderabad or Karachi would be chosen as the location for the plant. The parties agreed to produce a “concrete” proposal on the subject by the following week.
It appears that 15 to 18 acres of land will be used to build the plant.
Sharjeel Memon said, “The Department of Transport is making every effort to set up a public transport plant in Sindh. This project will enhance the public transportation system.
The project would increase employment opportunities and attract foreign investment to Pakistan, according to the transport minister.
Work on public transportation
The intra-district Peoples Bus Service was previously launched by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, the chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). The mass transit system’s objectives are to make life easier for Karachi residents and to build the city’s much-needed infrastructure for public transportation.
Around 240 buses with air conditioning that were imported from China will operate on seven routes in Karachi as part of the Peoples Intra District Bus Service project.
The project will start running on Route 1 between Model Colony and Tower, a distance of approximately 29.5 kilometres, stopping at 38 stations. Seven routes for Karachi have been decided upon in the first phase, on which 240 buses will run.
