As demonstrations over the death of a young woman in the care of the morality police shake the Islamic Republic, Iranian officials claim they will block internet access in the nation until order is restored to the streets.
Since the murder last week of Mahsa Amini, 22, who was detained in Tehran and transported to a “re-education centre,” presumably for failing to properly wear her hijab, thousands of Iranians have flocked to the streets in protest.
At least 40 towns around the country, including the capital Tehran, have witnessed protests since last Friday, with demonstrators calling for an end to violence and discrimination against women as well as the requirement to wear the hijab.Following skirmishes with security forces, dozens of demonstrators are said to have died.
