KARACHI: Due to exorbitant costs for perishable goods, weekly inflation based on the sensitive pricing index (SPI) increased despite a significant drop in fuel prices.The SPI-based inflation rate increased by 0.29% from the previous week to the week ending October 6 according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), while it increased by 29.44% from the same time last year, according to data released on Friday.
According to data made public by PBS, the average price of 17 basic items—including onions, tomatoes, bananas, and other items—rose during the previous week.The cost of 14 goods has decreased, including chicken, garlic, wheat flour, and masoor pulses. In the meantime, the prices for 20 necessities remained the same.
The combined income group index increased from 209.18 points the week of September 29 to 211.73 points the following week.In comparison to the prior week, the SPI for the income bracket with the lowest income rose by 0.29%. The group’s index was 205.73 points as opposed to 205.13 points the week before.
