Wasim Akram becomes irate after a fan inquires about Shaheen Afridi
When England defeated Australia in the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) final on Sunday, Pakistan’s chances of winning the T20 World Cup for a second time were destroyed.
Jos Buttler and company claimed the prized title after England’s 138-run chase was guided by Ben Stokes. Shaheen hurt his knee while talking a catch to get rid of Harry Brook, which changed the course of the game. Iftikhar Ahmed was therefore unable to bowl his complete overs, and Stokes and Moeen Ali took advantage of him.
After the game, Wasim Akram discussed Pakistan’s defeat, and it was during this time that a fan inquired about Shaheen Afridi that the former Pakistan captain lost his cool. Despite not having read the question, Akram gave a suitable answer.
Akram reacted angrily, saying, “I wish you were in front of me. This guy, the question you have asked is just misbehaving. If you do not have any respect, you are misbehaving with your player. You are not ashamed; see what he has said about Shaheen Shah Afridi.
Shaheen Afridi’s injury after he landed awkwardly on his knee while taking a catch to eliminate Harry Brook was the turning point in the game. In England’s fifteenth over, this compelled him to end his spell.
Imran Khan was quoted by Dawn.com as saying, “I used to advise my team to fight to the last bowl. Try your best. But when the outcome comes, and you have given your best, it is God’s will. But what is not in your hands, the way Shaheen Afridi was injured, no one can do anything about that.”
I am not suggesting that we could have won, but it was at a point when the game could have been altered, and sadly it happened when the match was at a crucial stage, and Shaheen could have made a difference, he continued.
137 was vigorously defended by Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah, Shaheen, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. Particularly when he removed Phil Salt and Jos Buttler during the powerplay, Rauf gave England a scare.
Ben Stokes, however, made sure that the team finished.
