the rule of the Constitution
Following the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s decision to appoint PTI candidate Pervez Elahi as Punjab’s chief minister, the party’s senior vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi stated that “today, the Constitution’s rule has been accepted and the Pakistani people’s mandate has been respected.”
“On July 17, the people of Pakistan wholeheartedly accepted Imran Khan’s narrative, and we reject this imported government,” said the ex-foreign minister at a press conference.
A three-judge Supreme Court bench today ruled that Deputy Speaker Dost Muhammad Mazari’s ruling in the Punjab Chief Minister election was “illegal,” and that Pervez Elahi will be the province’s new chief minister.
The CJP stated that “no legal” grounds were presented before the court; arguments were only presented regarding the party head’s directions, and the court concluded that there was no need for a full bench in the current case.
“I will change my mind only if concrete reasons are provided.”
CJP Bandial stated that the real question was who could direct party lawmakers. According to him, the constitution clearly states that the parliamentary party will direct MPs.
