NAIROBI: According to Nairobi businessman Waqar Ahmed, Tariq Wasi, the CEO of Karachi Kings, asked him to support Arshad Sharif’s trip to Kenya, which he set up out of politeness.During an interrogation, Waqar disclosed this to Pakistani investigators Athar Wahid, the director of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and Omar Shahid Hamid, the deputy director general of the Intelligence Bureau.Waqar is the brother of Khurram Ahmed, who was driving Sharif when they came under fire, killing the journalist. Sharif was travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser at the time.
Waqar said the investigators that Wasi had asked him to house Sharif throughout his stay in Kenya and to assist him in any manner he could, in addition to arranging for a sponsorship letter to send Sharif from Dubai to Kenya.According to a source, Waqar told the investigation team that Wasi frequently contacted him to inquire about Sharif’s health and daily activities. Waqar informed the detectives at his residence, “I arranged for Sharif’s stay at my penthouse at Wasi’s request.
