LAHORE: Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, praised England for winning the ICC World Cup on Sunday as the Green Shirts faced defeat against England in the final at the MCG.

Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, tweeted, “Team Pakistan battled back hard and valiantly. Outstanding bowling performance. But today, England played better. We are pleased with our green-clad athletes for reaching the championship game of this major competition.

Shadab Khan, vice-captain of Pakistan’s white-ball cricket team, expressed optimism for the tournament’s ICC T20 World Cup after his team defeated the Netherlands on Sunday in Perth, Australia.

After two straight losses to India and Zimbabwe, Pakistan defeated the Netherlands by six wickets to claim their first victory in the massive event. Shadab, though, is optimistic that Pakistan’s victory today could shift the course of the competition.

“In each of the games we lost, we came close. The two games were much under our control, but we couldn’t finish strong. We had the belief that we were a superior team than the results revealed, despite the fact that we were defeated in both games, Shadab remarked during the news conference following the game.

India won its first match against Pakistan

Many cricket fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the team’s performance on social media after Sunday’s thrilling T20 World Cup opener, in which India defeated Pakistan by four wickets.

But when the Pakistani squad fought valiantly to the latter end and did everything in its power to keep the game alive, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stepped in to save the day and threw the Green Shirts under the bus.

The PM posted on Twitter: “Team Pakistan made an excellent effort. wonderful game.”PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz expressed similar views and expressed support for the squad’s upcoming game. She praised the team for their efforts.

“Going down after putting up a brave battle is not shameful. The effort is what counts, and today we saw a lot of it. The game was a complete cliffhanger that might have gone either way. Boys, get ready for the next battle!”
