On Friday, fans are commemorating the singer Munawar Sultana’s 29th anniversary of passing away (today).
Before the partition, Munawar Sultana began her career as a singer of songs from the movie “Teri Yad.”
She later recorded songs from Mehdi, the first Pakistani cinema.
She sang the vocals for several movie songs, including as those from Mahboob, Dastaan, Be Qaraar, Anso, Sar Froosh, and Inteqam.
The first female playback singer in Pakistani cinema history was Munawar Sultana.
In 1947, she sang four songs in Teri Yaad, the first Pakistani film ever made. Meinu Rabb di Sohn Teray Naal Pyar Ho Geya Way Channa, Sachi Muchi was her first huge hit song.
The song was performed in the 1949 musical Pheray. In the same movie, she also sang the first-ever megahit duet song with Inayat Hussain Bhatti.
The first big popular song by Munawar Sultana was used in Pakistan’s first big-budget film, Dulla Bhatti (1956).
Munawar Sultana gained notoriety for one of the most well-known patriotic songs from the 1957 movie Bedari.
Laray (1950), 2 Aansoo (1950), Be-Qarar (1950), Heer, Noukar (1955), Guddi Gudda (1956), and more films included hit songs.
Munawar Sultana passed away on June 7, 1995, after being born in 1925.
