On Sunday, Jawaharlal Nehru’s record of holding the position for the most consecutive terms as prime minister of India was matched by Narendra Modi. But this time, Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was unable to win a simple majority, which meant that a coalition government with the backing of other parties had to be formed.

In a formal ceremony conducted at the President’s House, Modi was sworn in by Indian President Draupadi Murmu. Newly elected assembly members as well as a number of notable visitors attended the function.
Also present at the swearing-in event were chiefs of state from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Mauritius, among other nearby nations.
After Jawaharlal Nehru, Modi is the second Indian prime minister to hold the position for three terms in a row, indicating that he would continue to rule the biggest democracy in the world.
The leaders of Pakistan and India sent each other congratulations, demonstrating a diplomatic effort to build goodwill between the two countries in the face of continuing geopolitical changes in the area.
