Shan Masood of Pakistan will be named Yorkshire’s new captain for 2023, according to the county’s coach, Ottis Gibson, who revealed future plans for the batter — the county’s new overseas signing — on Wednesday.
Gibson told journalists at Headingley that the Pakistan batter, who has signed a two-year contract with Derbyshire, will lead the county in all competitions next summer.
“From what we’ve discussed with Shan, he’ll be the club captain going forward,” Gibson said.
“The players are aware of this; Shan will be club captain, and he will bring his own leadership style.”
However, it is unclear whether the Pakistani batter will captain Yorkshire in Division One or Division Two next season.
The 32-year-old has been named to both squads for the T20 World Cup and the current England series.
Masood told reporters at the National Stadium in Karachi earlier this month that county was his best experience in terms of player development.
