The country’s cricket body (BCB) said on Saturday that Shakib Al Hasan has returned as captain of Bangladesh’s T20 team for the Asia Cup and World Cup, putting an end to rumours over the all-future rounder’s due to his connections with a betting company.
According to reports, the BCB notified Shakib, 35, this week that he had to decide whether to play for the national team or preserve his sponsorship arrangement with a betting website. On Thursday, he ended his employment agreement with the business.
The BCB also announced a 17-man roster for the Asia Cup, which begins on August 27 in the United Arab Emirates. Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and batsman Sabbir Rahman both made their comebacks.
