The International Cricket Council (ICC) released updated rankings on Wednesday, and Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam and teenage bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi both rose in the Test rankings.
The Pakistani captain got closer to the top Test ranking, putting Azam one step closer to his goal of becoming the best batter across all three formats of the game.
While Azam already dominates both white-ball competitions, he has yet to overtake Joe Root of England in the Test format.
Root continues to command the top slot in the Test rankings, but Babar moves up one spot to third overall and achieves a career-high rating of 874 points as a result of his outstanding century in Pakistan’s ongoing series against Sri Lanka’s first Test in Galle.
