Pakistan cricket is in a bind with the Green Shirts’ elimination from the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 after defeats to India and Sri Lanka.
Prior to the ICC World Cup in India, which starts next month, big worries include the players’ lack of fitness and bad play.
Senior Pakistani players are being scrutinized before the ICC World Cup in 2023
Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, Mickey Arthur, Inzamam-ul-Haq, the chief selector, and head coach Grant Bradburn are debating the players’ ongoing fitness difficulties.
Some senior players are also anticipated to lose their positions as the selectors consider new candidates for the team.
Sources claim that the management assisted the selectors in creating a team for the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2023. Without making a formal statement, they had already told the players whether they would be competing in the tournament or not.
The Men in Green were unable to advance to the Asia Cup finals, so the scenario has changed.
Inzamam is particularly concerned about the team’s defeat and Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah’s injury, who are both key players.
Babar recently brought up the potential that pacer Naseem would miss several of the World Cup games. After suffering a right shoulder injury during the Super 4 match against India, the bowler Naseem was unable to compete in the Asia Cup. The medical team has urged him to take it easy before the World Cup.
Additionally, batsman Fakhar Zaman and vice-captain Shadab Khan are both out of form.
Babar recently cited the bowlers as the cause of the team’s Asia Cup loss, claiming that they could have performed better on the field.
In an effort to lift their spirits, PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf also paid a visit to the players at their hotel, but this just made them more anxious.
Misbah-ul-Haq, the head of the technical committee, and Inzamam have chosen to meet with the local selectors. The chief selector will also make a few adjustments after consulting with Babar, Arthur, and Bradburn.
From October 5 to November 19, 10 teams will compete for the coveted World Cup title at 10 different locations, with the tournament’s opening game and championship match taking place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
All teams will face each other for a total of 45 league matches during the round-robin style of the Cricket World Cup.
The top four teams will advance to the semifinals, which will take place on November 15 in Mumbai and on November 16 in Kolkata. There will be reserve days for the semifinals and championship.
Pakistan has not yet made their mega-event squad public.
