Sadaf Naeem, a journalist for a private news channel, died on Sunday after being crushed under a PTI container during the long march from GT Road Lahore to Kamoke.
Sadaf’s husband, Naeem, told journalists that his family learned of her death after their daughter saw her on television. The couple has a 21-year-old daughter and a 15-year-old son.
“My daughter saw it on television and said she looked like her mother,” he said, adding that his children begged Sadaf not to go to the press conference, but she refused.
Speaking to the crowd, Khan announced that today’s march was planned to head toward Kamoke, Gujranwala. However, we will immediately halt the march owing to the unfortunate tragedy.
Khan also expressed his condolences to the dead’s family and pledged to offer his prayers for the soul of the deceased.
Following the incident, the march came to an end at GT Road, when Imran Khan exited the container.
Rescue workers said that while the reporter was climbing down the container she was already standing on, she tripped and fell under Khan’s container.
Using Twitter, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his sorrow at the incident and his condolences to the journalist’s family.
