Police say a professor from Warwickshire who was travelling to South America for study has vanished.
Tom Marsh, a researcher from Rugby working for Warwick University, has been travelling to Chile’s La Silla Observatory. The last time I spoke to him was on Friday night.
The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Interpol, and Chilean officials were being consulted, according to Warwickshire Police.
The relatives of the 60-year-old stated they were “very concerned.”
Relatives expressed their worry and sadness for Tom in a statement sent through the Warwickshire police, saying: “We would encourage anybody who may have knowledge on his whereabouts to please help.”
According to officials, the family was being supported by specialised police personnel.
Mr. Marsh is described as being Caucasian, 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a beard and greying, thinning hair. He was most likely sporting a grey wool cap, walking boots, and a blue rain jacket.
His daughter Tabitha wrote on social media that the family was “desperate” to find the astronomy and astrophysics professor.
“He vanished while out on an observation run at the La Silla Observatory in Chile.
“The town of La Serena is the nearest. Please get in touch with the police if you know anything or believe you can help. I’m grateful.
“Any assistance or knowledge would be much appreciated,” my dad’s friends and coworkers said.
“We are helping the family of a British man missing in Chile and are in communication with the local police,” an FCDO representative stated.
