PM okays Lt Gen Faiz Hamid’s early retirement, according to sources
ISLAMABAD: According to sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday approved Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid’s request for an early retirement.
Lt Gen Hamid submitted his application to GHQ a few days ago, and GHQ transmitted it via the defence ministry to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval.
During the PTI administration, Lt Gen Hamid held the positions of DG ISI and corps commander in Peshawar. Later, he was appointed corps commander in Bahawalpur.
Hamid made his declaration shortly after Lt General Azhar Abbas, the Chief of General Staff (CGS), made a comparable choice.
The six candidates recommended to fill General Qamar Javed Bajwa’s position as head of the army staff once he retires on November 29, 2022 included the two senior military figures. However, the PM chose General Asim Munir, who took over as head of the military that same day.
