The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to host a high-level “Connection Camp” in Lahore, aimed at establishing a unified vision for the future of Pakistan cricket. The event, taking place tomorrow (Monday), will bring together elite cricketers, head coaches, and specialists under the leadership of PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
The camp follows a challenging period for the Green Team, which faced back-to-back defeats, including a recent 2-0 Test whitewash against Bangladesh. The team also struggled in the 50-over and T20 World Cup tournaments, suffering defeats to Afghanistan and the United States. The PCB aims to use this camp to address these setbacks and reignite the excellence that has characterized Pakistan cricket since its inception in 1952.
The session is designed to foster collaboration between players and the PCB, reaffirming the board’s commitment to supporting players in achieving strategic goals. Naqvi emphasized the importance of open dialogue and collective agreement on a strategic path forward to inspire the next generation of cricketers.
The camp will feature nine elite cricketers, including white-ball captain Babar Azam, alongside key players like Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Test captain Shan Masood. National team head coaches Jason Gillespie and Gary Kirsten, along with assistant coach Azhar Mahmood and high-performance specialist David Reid, will also participate.
Naqvi stated, “The Connection Camp is a critical step toward unifying our approach to restore Pakistan cricket to its former glory. Our aim is to identify key issues, foster open dialogue, and collectively agree on a strategic path forward.” He reiterated the PCB’s commitment to establishing actionable goals that meet the expectations of passionate cricket fans.
The discussions at the camp will encompass performance benchmarks, player development programs, and strategies to enhance grassroots cricket. The initiative aligns with the PCB’s vision to not only improve immediate team performance but also ensure the long-term sustainability of excellence in the sport.
Shan Masood highlighted the significance of the camp, stating, “This is an important moment for us as players. We’re fully committed to working with the PCB to reignite the pride and passion that Pakistan cricket is known for.” He expressed excitement about being part of this collaborative effort.
Gillespie, the men’s team red-ball head coach, noted, “This camp provides a valuable opportunity for open dialogue and alignment between the coaching staff and players. We’re all striving toward the same goal — raising the standard of Pakistan cricket and creating a culture of winning.”
Kirsten, the white-ball head coach, emphasized his responsibility to create an optimal environment for players to thrive. “We will focus on refining our approach in white-ball cricket to meet the standards of the highest levels of international competition. Most importantly, we will do everything possible to ensure the people of Pakistan are proud of their national team,” he concluded.
