Pakistan’s Shahzaib Khan has secured the gold medal in the -54 kilogramme weight category at the Asia Open Kyurogi Taekwondo Championship, held recently. Shahzaib achieved this significant victory by defeating Reymundo Calamba III of the Philippines in a thrilling final match.
The competition was intense, with Calamba initially taking the lead by scoring 11 points to Shahzaib’s six in the first round. However, Shahzaib made a remarkable comeback in the second round, winning 10-3. His dominance continued into the third round, where he secured an 18-0 victory, thus clinching the gold medal for Pakistan.
Shahzaib’s journey to the final was equally impressive. In the semi-final, he faced Aziz Hidayat Tomakaka of Indonesia. Shahzaib showcased his skill and determination by winning the match with scores of 12-14, 16-14, and an overwhelming 22-0 in the final round, ensuring his place in the final.
In another noteworthy performance, Hamza Saeed of Pakistan competed in the +87kg weight category. Despite a strong effort, Hamza secured the silver medal after being defeated by Beibarys Kablan of Kazakhstan. Kablan won the gold by a margin of 5-1 and 4-4 points in the final match.
