The former power bowler Shoaib Akhtar claimed on Sunday that Pakistan’s hopes of competing in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup were dashed by South Africa’s thrashing of the powerful India.
By losing to South Africa, India “marwa diya humein” (blew Pakistan’s prospects). But India shouldn’t be held accountable because we contributed to this by playing poorly, Akhtar stated on his YouTube channel as he analysed the crucial T20 World Cup issue.
“The neighbours’ expectations were disappointed. Pakistan’s prospects of advancing to the next round would have increased if India had eliminated South Africa.
Akhtar claimed he had previously stated that these pitches were difficult to play. And I turned out to be right. India came into contact with South Africa’s deadly pace onslaught. India let us down; had they played more carefully, it would have been a winning goal.
