The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a change in venue for the upcoming Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The second Test, originally scheduled to take place at the National Stadium in Karachi, will now be held at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This decision comes as a result of the ongoing renovation work at the National Stadium, which is being upgraded for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy.
The PCB has confirmed that the construction work at the National Stadium cannot be completed in time for the match, prompting the shift to Rawalpindi. The Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has previously hosted several international matches and is well-equipped to handle the demands of a Test match. The first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh will also be played in Rawalpindi, starting on August 21, followed by the second Test from August 30.
The renovation work at the National Stadium in Karachi is part of a larger effort to upgrade Pakistan’s cricket infrastructure ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. The stadium is being modernized to meet international standards, with improvements to the pitch, outfield, and spectator facilities. While the renovation work is expected to enhance the overall cricket experience in Karachi, it has necessitated the temporary shift of international matches to other venues.
