A birthday cake that had initially cost $400 online was purchased for $1.67 lakh by a woman from Pune. The woman was conned into paying a large sum of money by a scammer who appeared to be a bakery employee.
The woman, who was seeking for a bakery to purchase a birthday cake, discovered a cake store online, and placed an order on March 4, according to the police.She received a call from a man posing as an employee of the bakery who requested her bank information in order to make a 400 payment.
The fictitious worker sent the woman a QR code to finish the transaction. But the extra 2,000 was for the code. He promised to give her back the money she had payed.
