KARACHI: Omar Khalid, ranked No. 1 in Pakistan, and Yashal Shah, ranked No. 3, will compete in the 74th US Junior Amateur Championship, one of the largest junior tournaments in golf history, at the renowned Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon, United States.
Omar and Yashal received exemptions to compete in the famous competition, which will take place from July 25 to 30. This is a unique opportunity for Pakistani golf.
The event will feature 264 players from all over the world. The World Amateur Golf Rankings positions of only 47 of them have allowed them to receive an exemption (WGAR).Omar reached a career-high position of No. 294 in the world rankings after becoming Pakistan’s youngest-ever National Amateur champion.
He was one of the top ten players under the age of 17 in the entire world. Omar, who won the 2021 National Amateurs at the age of 16, also won the Pakistan Open (amateur winner), the CAS Open, the DHA Open, the Governor’s Cup, and the Faldo Series Pakistan. He is also the youngest player to ever hold the No. 1 ranking in Pakistan.
