The recent achievements of Abdul Mueed Baloch, a 23-year-old athlete representing the Pakistan Air Force (PAF), have brought pride to Pakistan. Competing in the World Cadet Games held in Venezuela, Baloch secured a silver medal in the 200-metre race, finishing with an impressive time of 21.72 seconds. The gold medal in this event was claimed by a Venezuelan athlete who narrowly edged out Baloch with a time of 21.69 seconds.
Baloch’s performance at the games was exceptional. Earlier in the week, he clinched a gold medal in the 400-metre race, completing the distance in 48.20 seconds. His victories further cement his status as a top athlete, particularly in the 200-metre and 400-metre categories, where he is already a national champion in Pakistan.
Hailing from Karachi’s Shanti Nagar, Baloch has had a remarkable athletic career. His journey began in 2015 when, as a passionate footballer, he first stepped onto the track at the National Coaching Centre. In his debut competition, the Aman Tech 100m sprint, Baloch clocked 12.50 seconds—a performance that marked the beginning of his promising career in athletics.
Over the years, Baloch has consistently represented Pakistan in international events, earning numerous accolades. Notably, he was named the fastest athlete after winning the 100-metre race at the 2018 Asian Junior Athletics Championship. He also holds the national record in Pakistan for the 400-metre race, with a time of 46.73 seconds.
The World Cadet Games, where Baloch recently competed, is a significant international event organized under the framework of the International Military Sports Council (CISM). The games, first held in 2010, bring together young athletes from military academies around the world to compete in various sports. The fourth edition of these games, inaugurated on August 17, is currently being held at the Fuerte Tiuna military base in Caracas, Venezuela.
Baloch’s recent successes at the World Cadet Games highlight his dedication and exceptional talent in athletics. His achievements not only bring honor to his homeland but also inspire young athletes across Pakistan.
