KARACHI: The first spell of monsoon rains is expected to arrive in Karachi this evening, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast on Saturday.
The port city is expected to receive heavy showers and gusty winds on July 3 and 4, according to the Met Office, adding that strong winds of up to 81 kilometers per hour may blow ahead of the downpour.
According to the weather service, a second monsoon will arrive in the country on July 7.
The minimum temperature in the city was 30 degrees, and the maximum temperature is expected to be between 34 and 36 degrees. As of this morning, the humidity level is 66 percent.
“Humid and partly cloudy weather is expected in most districts of the country today,” said PMD, “with rain-wind-thundershowers in Kashmir, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, lower Sindh, and eastern Balochistan.”
Monsoon rains have begun in the country, according to the Met Office, with the first spells falling in parts of Northeast Punjab, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. More thundershowers with isolated heavy rain are expected in the coming days in these areas.
Strong monsoon currents are also expected to enter southeastern Sindh and Balochistan starting today.
As a result of this weather system:
From July 2-5, rain-thundershowers with heavy to very heavy falls are expected in the districts of Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, Hyderabad, Tando M. Khan, Tando Allayar, Karachi, Dadu, and Jamshoro.
During this time, rain-thundershowers with isolated heavy falls are expected in the districts of Shaheed Benazirabad, Noshero Feroz, Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Ghotki, and Kashmore.
From July 2-5, rain-thundershowers with heavy to very heavy falls are expected in Khuzdar, Barkhan, Lasbella, Kohlu, Sibbi, Awaran, Naseerabad, and Panjgur.
During the period, rain-thunderstorms with a few heavy falls are expected in Quetta, Zhob, Dalbandin, Nokkundi, Noshki, Qila Saifullah, Mastung, Kalat, and the coastal belt (Gawadar, Pasni, and Ormara).
