The Legend of Maula Jatt by Fawad Khan surpasses Ram Setu and Thank God in international markets and achieves more on day 13 than on day one
Thank God and Ram Setu, this year’s Diwali releases, failed to make an impact at the Indian box office or on the global stage. The Legend of Maula Jatt, a Pakistani movie starring Fawad Khan, which was out two weeks ago, has overshadowed the movie.
According to a Bollywood Hungama report, The Legend of Maula Jatt fared better at the box office in the UK than Akshay Kumar’s Ram Setu and Ajay Devgn’s Thank God combined.
The Fawad Khan starrer made USD 46,825 (Rs. 38.40 lakhs) on 56 screens on its thirteenth day in the UK. However, the crowd was not drawn to the theatres by the new films. The Legend of Maula Jatt was similarly the preferred movie in North America. Evidently, they disapproved of the Ram Setu and Thank God Bollywood films. 90 screens there saw The Legend of Maula Jatt earn USD 56,586 (about Rs. 46.45 lakhs). Ram Setu brought in USD 48,330 (Rs. 39.67 lakhs) from 354 screens, while Thank God brought in USD 40,358 (Rs. 33.13 lakhs) from 228 screens.
The Legend of Maula Jatt tells the tale of prizefighter Maula Jatt (Fawad Khan), who battles Noori Natt, one of the most fearsome fighters of the era, while being tormented by his past demons. In addition to Fawad and Mahira, Hamza Ali Abassi and Humaima Malik play important roles in the movie.
The Legend of Maula Jatt director Bilal Lashari expressed his ‘overwhelmedness’ with the film’s success in an interview with Deadline, adding, “I’m beyond overwhelmed by the love the film has received from viewers and critics alike across the world. The Legend of Maula Jatt continues to win audiences over in theatres all around the world, and we are very delighted that it has contributed to putting Pakistani cinema on the map.
Ram Setu has made Rs 35.40 crore in India in just three days. Thank God, which debuted on the same day as Ram Setu, has only made Rs 18.25 crore in revenue thus far.
