Malala Yousafzai, renowned girls’ education advocate and the youngest Nobel laureate, has called for an immediate and lasting ceasefire to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza. She emphasized that it is unacceptable for children and families to endure such dire conditions.
Malala expressed these sentiments in posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram. She highlighted the efforts of her organization, the Malala Fund, which collaborates with the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) to support young people in Gaza. She described the deplorable conditions that children face, noting how the ongoing conflict severely impacts their mental and physical well-being.
Malala detailed the collaboration between the Malala Fund and the PCRF, focusing on the initiatives they support. In October of the previous year, alongside their call for a ceasefire, the Malala Fund backed the PCRF’s work in providing medical and humanitarian aid to children and their families in Gaza. She shared images of volunteers working with children, emphasizing the plight of over 625,000 children who are currently unable to attend school due to the conflict.
On Instagram, Malala further elaborated on the severe toll that constant bombardment takes on children’s health, particularly when they lack access to proper care. She highlighted several key programs of the PCRF, such as the Gaza Amputee Project, Medical and Orphan Sponsorships, and the Gaza Pandemic Mental Health Initiative, which are crucial in addressing the trauma inflicted by the war and providing necessary medical care and prosthetic limbs to young people in Gaza.
Additionally, Malala acknowledged the PCRF’s “Treatment Abroad” and “Medical Mission” programs, which offer urgent medical care and transformative procedures free of charge. These efforts are essential in providing life-saving medical treatments to those who need them most.
Malala concluded her social media posts by calling on her followers to support the PCRF and reiterated her demand for a ceasefire in Gaza. She stressed the urgency of ending the violence and suffering, highlighting the importance of international support in bringing about peace and relief to the people of Gaza.
